Wow. That's bold. Jalen Johnson, Thor and Wieskamp. That would be a really good trio to pull out of this draft.

Only thing about your plan is that is a VERY young team. 3 rookies, Romeo, Nesmith, Moses, Madar. 7 dudes who are 22 or younger and with tatum and pritchard that's 9 dudes who are 23 or younger. IDK about that man. The teams who go deep into the playoffs are typically veteran teams. People would consider this a rebuilding team..

Young talent vs Veterans is a million dollar question and yes there should be balance. but I see it as a talent upgrade for the next 4-5 years.. and losing Smart for nothing next year and RW who may or may not reach his star potential is a risk I would be willing to take.

Try to add a vet at minimum if possible as well.

Definitely.

We only got 1 pick but with how deep this draft is, Brad should definitely be looking to grab some other guy(s) as undrafted free agents. A guy like Aldama, Wieskamp, Kessler Edwards, Watford or Moses Wright could go undrafted and if Brad is smart, he'll grab (at least) 1 of them..

Maybe he just did it to improve his draft stock, but Vrenz Bleijenbergh put 6'11" in his twitter bio. Previously he had been listed at 6'10". If he's really 6'11" he could be an intriguing pick at 45 as a guy who might be a top 5 passer in this draft and also a good shooter, can handle the ball and decent on D.

Vrenz's twitter bio says "6'11" SG/PG"..but he really could play 1-4, he had an 11.2% rebounding rate which is basically what Tatum and a lot of other 4's and big 3's average.

no centers for me.. and Vrenz is my top 45 pick TBH so yes for him at any of 6'9, 6'10, 6'11 size

Yeah man, it's bold but 3-4 yrs from now that could be a scary freaking team if we are able to develop those young guys..

Yeah man, I like Vrenz. He seems like he's got this competitive fire/edge to him too. Some are calling him a 1st round talent. Can guard 1-4. High upside with ability to handle the ball, shoot, pass, defend, rebound and even block some shots at 6'11" and only 20 yrs old. I wouldn't hate the pick at all if we grab him at 45.

Big swing, but I like it. Get that insane floor stretcher and hope he figures other things out. Like the basics: dribbling, defense, lol.

Interesting. This is the first I am hearing that Mann could possibly slip all the way to 45.

Most mocks I have seen have him going in the 15-30 range. Some dude in the NBA draft forum on realgm was even saying the other day he could see Mann going no. 6

He didn't measure well. Neutral wingspan. But still seems like a big drop.

Why do people think Williams is worth anything more than a late 1st? He’s a 6’9” center that is never healthy. Maybe a team with multiple 1st would give us a pick in the 20s. Lottery? And Smart for a lottery pick? smh. People way over value our players

For the sake of argument it only takes one team to believe he is worth it. And his upside definitely is just a risk because of his injuries

I’d have taken Greg Brown at 16. If he’s there in the second it should be a no brainer

very true. I just don't see it. We're talking about a 6'9" center who has played 113 games in 3 seasons, averaged 8-7 and who doesn't stretch the floor. The only reason I think he could command a late 1st is because teams picking there have cap issues and need a plug and play guy over a rookie and him being an RFA who can be S&T to facilitate trades might be more attractive than a similarly talented big they can take via the draft. Teams in the 20s that fit this description:

Lakers #22
Clippers #25
Nuggets #26

Then again, those teams can easily just draft guys like Bassey, Sims, or Garuba and have them under control for years. I know I'd personally rather the pick and take one of those players over keeping Williams. He's done very little to justify all the love he gets on here. There's this one dude who claims he's a top 10 center! Yes, if he wasn't a knucklehead, if he wasn't always injured, if he wasn't so lost on defense when not hunting blocks, if he developed a 15 footer or a shot out to the 3pt...but damn, that's a long list and there's guys like I mentioned coming out that already have many of those skills and are young enough to believe they have a chance to develop them compared to Williams who will be in his fourth season.

I don’t know about Williams but plenty of players worse than Smart have been traded for a mid first with a year left on their deal, Hardawy jr and Shamet off the top of my head. A mid first isn’t a lot of value, especially for a young player who you get the rights to resign too. People overvalue draft picks way too much. Who would you rather have, Smart with a year left or Romeo Langford/Nesmith, who were the previous 14th picks? Hitting on a mid first isn’t easy.

Interesting list. The only 3 on there who will almost definitely be gone before 45 = Murphy, McBride, Hyland.

The rest of the them will probably still be on the board. Wieskamp and Grimes, have a chance at going late 1st or early 2nd round before our pick but a good chance they'll still be there. Both of them have been rising up the rankings with strong combine showings.

Pons is intriguing. I'm actually checking out a bunch of videos of his now, including this one which really shows his switchability - he typically plays center at Tennessee but in this video he switches onto Kansas speedy PG on a couple of possessions and locks him up pretty good.

Pons has the body and athleticism of Time Lord except quicker defending the perimeter / better at switching out onto guards and can also hit 3's. He's an intriguing sleeper pick for sure. Pons at the combine had a 42.5" vertical leap, which is insane, 4% body fat which was the lowest at the whole combine and in the agility and speed drills he ranked very high in all of them. He could be a really nice stretch 4 at the next level..

Champagnie I was gonna check out some of his vids next..someone in the NBA draft forum on realgm has him ranked no. 21 overall but most mocks have him going late 2nd round or undrafted so dude could be a huge steal..

Edit - watching Julian Champagnie footage, I'm curious if we worked out him and Wieskamp at the same time because that would have been very interesting to see how the 2 of them looked compared to each other. Both about the same size. Both big wings. Both good shooters - Wieskamp a little bit better shooter but Champagnie better at handling the ball and attacking off the dribble.

I’d trade everyone for Josh Giddey.

Giddey/Nesmith/Langford/Semi/Kornet.

That’s a championship starting 5.

Good looks on posting the list.

Watched a few minutes of Trey Murphy. Literally no chance he lasts until 45. Hyland looks like a Lou Will, Jamal Crawford type. If these guys slide I’d jump at the chance to draft them.

I like Wieskamp. Will have to check out a few more of these guys.

Julian Champagnie is my new pick for steal of the draft. Most mocks he's either going late 2nd round or not drafted at all, but look at his video:

And this in depth scouting report, which shows a couple of nice defensive clips:

https://www.wyexpect.com/stories/2021-nba-draft-sleepers-st-johns-julian-champagnie-is-hiding-in-plain-sight

Excited that he's on the list of guys who worked out for us. Get him, Brad.

Some of his moves in the video, and his size/frame he looks an awful lot like Jayson Tatum, especially on the step-back jumpers.

Also looks like Ziaire Williams except Champagnie has a stronger frame and is a better shooter.

The other comparison I'm seeing for Champagnie is James Bouknight - lots of similarities with the way these two guys play and the numbers they put up this past season (both were sophomores). But Champagnie is 3 inches taller, 2 inches longer on the wingspan and a higher % shooter from 3 and from the FT line, higher rebounding % too. Champagnie appears to be just as athletic and just as good of a handle - and Champagnie also looks like maybe a slightly better defender too. Yet Bouknight is projected to go in the 7-12 range, Ziaire is projected in the 15-25 range and Champagnie is projected late 2nd round or undrafted. As my man Big L once said, "I don't understand it".

Of course, the last player where I watched their highlight vid and thought they would be the steal of the draft was Watford and then I watched his scouting report vid and see that he is terrible defensively and then saw a video from the combine where he gets scored on easily a bunch of times and also appears to be winded easily/out of shape.

thanks for posting this. Jordan Hall is returning to school otherwise I would have loved to get him in the 2nd. He has point forward potential. I'd much rather draft and give major minutes to Hauser or Murphy who both could be starters, instead of Fournier who will be too expensive. Onu reminds me of Capela. He's certainly worth taking at our pick especially if we trade TT. Most of the rest of this list are guys either sure to be taken before our pick or guys I want no part of though many of them are sadly upgrades over Grant, Edwards, Fall, and Waters, but that's not saying much.

Haven't looked yet. I am originally from NYC, always thought St John Players were too "street ball style and skill" and normally never pan out in the NBA. Moe Harkless was there, led the Big East in scoring and yet he can barely keep a job in the NBA.

I have no idea who coaches them now and what style of player they have now. Maye they turned the corner.

But if he is a Wing, with size and some skillz, I am all in at looking.
