A big story around circles is how the Celtics have such a crazy point differential with the record they have. I wouldn't put heavy stock in the differential into believing the Celtics chances as a contender. While point differential is a good rule of thumb for spotting the best teams, there's more to the numbers. The Cs are bludgeoning bad teams and games they should win. Ofc that's what great teams do. Most of their loses have been close and we know how unclutch they have been this season. Not saying they're fakes, I just don't have that feeling they will advance to the Finals barring fortunate circumstances.

Why isn't every good team bludgeoning the bad teams? Because they aren't winning a chip like we are, duh!! Haters gon hate!

I don’t need them to win the title this year, I just need to see more progress. I want to see them win some close games in this playoffs, and Tatum continuing to take that next step.
We definitely need more talent, but with the team buying in like they have on the defensive end, it gives us a bit more margin for error.

The problem with differential is that it makes regular season monsters like the Big Al Atlanta teams look great even though on paper they lacked the truly elite players they needed to knock off Lebron. It also ignores veteran teams like 2010 Celtics …. And maybe the 2022 Lakers for that matter …. who don’t take regular season seriously.
What it does say is that this current lineup is developing chemistry and is a legit playoff team. They still don’t have the talent on paper to mix with the big boys in a 7 game series….. unless our young stars are making a much bigger leap in their abilities than eye test says they are.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

The Celtics have the talent and competiveness to win the title this year. Obviously things need to break their way but that's for every team. The blueprint for this team is the Bucks from last season. I predicted a 3 seed but we can go even further. Every aspect of the team must buy in the mission. Someone recently here was trashing PJ Tucker's performance in the POs last season. Are you ****** out of your mind??!! The Bucks don't win without the play of Tucker. Along with a rising Tatum and Brown, we have that kind of team and we may have that kind of coach that'll get that kind of effort from everyone.
That's the Way of the World

Last season's effort was so bad it's hard to explain. The overhaul to date was unsurprisingly necessary and delightfully successful. This team is who we thought we were but weren't for a long time.

Something I think a lot of people overlook, the effort was lower across the entire league last season. The Knicks were the only team who consistently played hard on both ends, in the regular season. Then by the playoffs we were destroyed by injuries, and no amount of effort was going to make a difference.

That Kemba trade looking even smarter now that the Knicks are shutting him down and looking for a trade in the summer.. and Danny's signing looking even worse. Credit to Brad for sizing up the situation and acting quickly.

A LOT has to break right, including:
-- Almost all the good trends need to continue.
-- Health needs to be excellent.
-- Shooting needs to improve.
-- The presumptively much superior other teams (Phoenix, Golden State, Brooklyn at a minimum) need to somehow fall short.

I wouldn't mind another NBA title for my Cs in this millennium.

Re: Official Celtics 2021-22 Season Thread, 2nd Edition
One thing that remains a concern is winning/executing in tight games. We've had the 2nd least number of clutch games played in 2022 (5-4 in those games) so we haven't had many reps in those situations ever since we saw this "new-look" Celtics. We just lost our last such game vs. the Pistons (though we were without our two starters).
Below is a chart of the teams who've done well in the clutch and the top two guys they rely on in those moments.

The pairs from MEM, PHX, and CHI stand out. MIA and GSW have won close games with their defense. CHI and MEM have done it with their offense. Suns have been great on both ends.
Wish we get some close games in the last 22 as prep for the playoffs.

SRS actually shows 2015 Hawks (4.75) as only a little ahead of the Cavs (4.08), far more accurate than won-loss (60 wins vs 53) would suggest. By netrtg the Hawks were ahead by 0.9.sam_I_am wrote:ballup wrote:A big story around circles is how the Celtics have such a crazy point differential with the record they have. Of course having an ATG coach and player-
coach really amplifies your advantage in a 7 game series. Korver had 10 three attempts ffs.
