I am starting to see that said more and more. High end athlete, but not otherwordly. Why do you think he's rated so highly? From what I gather it's that Russ relentless attitude, along with really good shot creation / playmaking ability. I've seen D said both ways - an issue getting blown by, but good off ball. The blowbys are written off sometimes as due to effort, but either way, not encouraging. Can't really shoot. That all sounds rather meh, but he's almost always top 2 or 3.

I'm definitely not as into betting the farm on him as I was (tho mainly for fun...), but am still hoping some other team will if we end up with #3. :D

My impression is that he did come on the scene super strong at a very young age in the G league but hasn’t really shown quite the same since (while people were saying coercing further progression).

Maybe it will end up being an awful take but like I said in the other thread seems like Sengun putting up 18/11/5 with very good efficiency as a 20 year old in the NBA seems underrated compared to guys barely doing the same against worst competition at similar ages.

Yeah, I don't think I responded on that part before, but Sengun's a good one. I wish the D/shooting were better, but... The fit with Rob would be weird, but I toyed with a Brown for 4/Sengun idea briefly. Would be interesting to see how he's valued. I don't think HOU would trade him for pick 10 to DAL for instance. 1 they definitely would. In between 2-9? There's probably somewhere in there they say yes, but not sure what #.

In a Sengun deal, the question is what else comes back to match salaries.

Rockets have $60M in cap space. They don’t necessarily need to match salaries though it would probably be most advantageous for them to do so though. Then they can use their cap space and go over the cap to execute the Brown trade.

Kevin Porter Jr. and JaSean Tate get them close enough to where whatever young player they’re sending back is enough. If they use #4 it might be a deal where they have to sign him first and wait 30 days to execute so he can count as outgoing money (like the Wiggins/Love trade with CLE/MIN).

From our standpoint we’d likely want to use the salary savings under the tax for a MLE or trade, so we’d push for a variation that gets done immediately.

Yeah they don't have to match salaries the same way. Though that big piece (yahoo I think iirc) on the Rockets plans made it sound like they are seriously looking at trading out Porter Jr. who could get waived by his new club due to his non-gtd deal.

They were pushing the idea they would try to land Draymond along with Harden, or failing that Karl Anthony-Towns, trading out a bunch of their younger pieces.

Oscar Tshiebwe... An elite rebounder both on the offensive glass, and defensive. His rebounding skill should translate to the NBA, but is it enough to warrant choosing him at #35? Most concerning to me is not his shooting, but that this scouting report says his interior defense is porous, and his lack of mobility hampers his ability to switch. Still, he is a beast on the boards. Where should he go in this draft?

Dariq Whitehead, rough freshman year, injuries but was a five-star recruit going in. FO has liked those guys in the past - Avery Bradley worked out, Romeo Langford didn't. Projected anywhere from late lotto (Woj), late first-round (ESPN mock) to early second-round (KOC Ringer mock). KOC has him going 36th to Orlando.

Those guys don't have careers anymore. Rebounding is the most likely skill to translate when the size is there, but it's not a coveted ability. When you offer that and no defense... someone will give him a summer contract and then he'll go to Europe.

There you go, easy-peasy!

Even got your guy Garuba in the deal. Where does Brad sign?

Houston has so many young players on rookie contracts. I don't see how they make such a deal without some other moves. They should develop more internally and look to add a point guard not named Kyrie Irving.

Stick him next to Chet Holmgren as a backup in OKC.

Give me guys that can put the ball in the hoop. Not someone who in 5 years "may" be a respectful shooter.

Not a top 58 guy, imo. Someone will probably get him on their summer league roster. But he doesn't have NBA level mobility or athleticism, no perimeter skills. Doesn't do anything at an NBA level except rebound. Probably a guy who's best shot is to play overseas somewhere.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

I want someone that plays hard, has a good attitude, team guy, who can shoot, and defend. Unlikely to see all that at pick #35, but Jordan Walsh comes close, and he has good size. Yes, his shooting needs to improve, but his shot looks decent, and he's young. Also, he will likely be available when we pick. Who do you see that is a good shooter, and who might be available at pick 35?

Welp, pretty much cross Vukcevic off the list for us.

Read on Twitter
?s=20

So he doesn't want to be stashed and basically doesn't want to be on a 2-way either, lol. So only wants to get drafted by a team that will pay to have him bought out of his contract with Partizan and get give him minutes right away. Which is not gonna happen on a team as good as the Celtics. He'll either go undrafted or will get drafted by a bad team, a team that is really desperate for a big man with his skill set..

I know nothing about the guy, but that is a horrible reason to cross him off of a list.

Why should he want to be stashed and why should he want to be relegated to a 2 way? Obviously he is not the one who chooses, but any player who proactively agrees to such terms against their wishes ahead of the draft is a loser who either lacks confidence and/or a competitive spirit. If he will not agree to it, it simply means he might be worth our consideration.

Why should he want to be stashed and why should he want to be relegated to a 2 way?

Because most 2nd round picks (where he's projected to be drafted) are either stashed or get a 2-way.

I think Andrew Nembhard and Christian Koloko may have been the only 2nd round picks last year who weren't either stashed or on a 2-way. Both of them were picked by teams who did not make the playoffs this year (raptors, pacers). Koloko (even though he was signed to a standard contract) was playing in the g league most of the season - especially after the raptors traded for Poeltl. They were picked 31 and 33 (Vukcevic is projected to go in the 34-44 range).

Oh, there was Jaylin Williams too. 34th pick, got a regular contract but was on a lottery team, that lost their projected starting center to a season ending injury before the season started (holmgren). And even then, Jaylin played in the g league quite a bit.

Bottom line, if you're a 2nd round pick - you're probably gonna be stashed or on a 2-way - especially if you get drafted by a playoff team - and especially if you don't get picked in the first 3 or 4 picks of the 2nd round.

I can see a prospect making an ultimatum like this if they're a projected lottery pick. Not guys who are projected to go 41st, like he is here:

https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nba-mock-draft-amen-thompson-scoot-bilal-coulibaly

Out of the prospects picked 41st or later in last year's draft, pretty much all of them either got stashed or a 2-way.

Utah or Clippers seem like very good fits. Clips want a big who can shoot and are at 30. Utah doesn't have a ton of guys on the roster and are at 28. Little high but who knows.

Ben Sheppard, Marcus Sasser, Tristan Vukcevic, Brandin Podziemski ....... I'm sure there are others. Yes they may not be ready but they can put the ball in the hoop. You can have them bulk up, learn defense and learn other stuff but they have a skill that NBA teams need. Shooting the ball.

Then that player comes in the game, misses 2-3 open jumpers and then is sitting right next to Mazzulla. Same thing that happened to Langford and Nesmith.
