This game was a few days ago, let's see how Garuba looked.
No outside shooting this game from Garuba, but he did a lot of things well...
2:49 nice job of running the floor and finishing in transition. He knows it's a tough matchup vs Zach Edey. Edey is much bigger than Garuba, but Garuba knows the advantage he has over Edey is out-running him in the open floor - and that's what he does here.
3:23 solid D here, nice hustle to track down the rebound and immediately throw the outlet pass ahead to ignite the fast break. He then continues to hustle down the floor, and again finishes on the break
3:38 nice kick out pass here to the open shooter for the 3. Spain is now up by 1. When Garuba entered the game, they were down by 9, it was 19-10 Canada with Garuba on the bench. Garuba comes in and Spain outscores Canada 19-9.
3:48 nice anticipation, able to read where the ball was gonna go off the missed shot, gets the rebound, 1 dribble, turns and makes the shot over Olynyk, with soft touch
7:38 here's a winning play by Garuba. Nice job of bringing the defensive pressure and aggressively trapping the Canada ball handler, traps about aggressively as you can, without being called for a foul. Results in the Canada ball handler coughing up the ball, leading to a steal for Spain and an easy transition dunk for Garuba.
10:48 battles for position under the basket, gets the ball and makes the shot in traffic to keep Spain in the game in OT
He just needs to get more comfortable/confident in his 3 ball. In this video, we see him clogging up the lane on offense quite a bit, which hurt Spain's spacing. If he can get more comfortable/confident in that 3 ball, he can be out on the perimeter more and space the floor better. And he can shoot (37% from 3 for his career, 41% last season) but it's been on very low volume.
On the bright side, the volume did increase last season. First 45 games, he only attempted 0.5 threes per game. But then over his last 30 games, that jumped up to 1.2 attempts per game. Which isn't *that* low, considering he was playing such a low amount of mins per game. And even when his volume increased later in the season, his 3 pt % remained basically the same (right around 40-41%).
