Best spot for him to get a ring so why leave? He could also cop some of his teammates' shoes once they win the title.

Yes, Springer to TPE. If Sixers saved on salary/taxes, maybe it's us who got a second rounder. But what did we send back to Philly?

I'm not seeing it, but Brad has full time people looking into these things, whereas I have youtube.
Very happy to be proven wrong, or perhaps just ignorant.

You do a good job with what you have, Dogen...
Much obliged, Bigfoot C.
Thing is, I was convinced on about a dozen players, even up there with the possibility of a Moody or Kuminga. But there is so much backroom stuff we don't know. Sometimes a GM is doing a solid for an agent, with designs on future trades, for example.
But this is a championship year, so I expect all in from the front office. This is a let down after a great trade for Tillman, but I'll be patient and see how things develop.
Maybe we'll see more of Jordan Walsh now, with Stevens and Banton moved. Not that he's going to move the needle much, but Joe can start to see him in regular season action while we hold HCA.

The other thing is front office executives are human beings. It is human nature for us to be stubborn at times and we ALWAYS like to be right. Springer was acquired because SOMEONE, or multiple SOMEONE'S in the Boston front office evaluated and had a high mark a few years ago on Springer. There was enough consensus internally to where they traded for him to take a closer look. Salary, defensive upside, etc all being factored in.

Stevens is better than springer.
Why not just keep him and add tillman int9 the tpe if tou arent using it?
Makes no sense.
I would mich rather stevens to springer
Tillman is better than banton i guess
Stevens, imo, is better than springer
2nd rounders are netter than no second rounders

Its also possible that he just doesn't think anybody else would sign him. He might just be done.

I would take Joe Harris in a second.

I’m not going crazy with negativity but I’d keep Banton for chemistry over this move.
I think Tatum put a halt to any more trades worth anything anyway because he seemed upset by losing Stevens and basically said “we’re good here, leave us alone!” He’s the superstar, gotta keep him happy.

I'm OK with all that. Will wait to see him on the floor, if he gets time. As long as Springer is an absolute DAWG on defense, he earn his keep this year. If he starts showing a better shot we'll be looking back at this ...and be talking up what a steal Brad got, again.
D White vibes anyone? A fan can dream.

Re: Trade/F.A. Thread 2023-24, con't – (Trade Deadline Feb. 8, 3PM, ET)
Celtics gave up the Chicago 2nd this year, which will probably be around 40th. That's a decent 2nd. Maybe they think Spriger has some upside as a guy who could replace Pritchard next next year? Move Pritchard's 6.7 for future pick(s) or upgrade lesewhere, slot in Springer at 4.0 million and save a couple million dollar to stay under the 2nd apron next year? Seems unlikely becasue he hasn't played at that level yet, but maybe they see something there.
Or maybe Springer is just more useful than a minimum guy becasue his salary is 4.0 million next year, so better for matching salary in trades.
They still have their own first (likely 30) and Dallas's second rounder (likely 45-50) this year. Have Walsh on contract with team control for 3 years after this one. Tillman as an UFA they could res-sign and use in a trade. Pritchard on a pretty good 4 year deal. Now Springer at 4.0 million next year. Interesting collection of low end assets.

It's gotta be something like that. -- He doesn't move the needle, IMO.
And why we Traded a 2nd Round pick, AND Dalano Banton for him, I just don't see it.
Springer is signed for next season, too.

Brad got Springer to recruit Embiid, that's all.
