Most likely scenario is we get the #5 pick (assuming one team behind us wins a lottery spot) and we get the #12 pick from Dallas (although they could still sneak by Houston). Is it possible to package the #5 and #12 pick for a good piece (I don't see any player in those spots who supplants our current players within the next two years)? The talent in this draft class isn't mind blowing, but this is probably the last draft class to have the team friendly rookie contracts that are in place now. I think that will give the picks more value than we had last year (when Ainge couldn't package 5 picks, including Nets, to move up in the draft).
Assuming #5 and #12 here are some potential trades, let me know what you think (both from Celtics perspective and:
1) Trade #5 and #12 for Okafor: Boston gains superior post player to Sullinger with an all-star level ceiling (although not superstar level). Boston doesn't have to re-sign Sullinger for more than his actual value. Philly get 3 (potentially 4) lottery picks in the last year before league rules change to disallow tanking and rookie contracts go way up in value
2) Trade #5 pick, #12 and Amir Johnson for Vucevic: Boston gets low post scorer and rebounder it needs. Orlando adds a lot more talent to an athletic team that Vucevic just doesn't seem to fit with.
Please provide feedback. There are better ideas out there I am sure. Please try to keep feedback related to ideas that involve the trade of draft picks (can include players as well). Also, feel free to mention reasons why you think we should keep the picks and select certain players. Thanks in advance for the help and thoughts.
I find it hard to believe that a Nets pick was one of 5 offered to move up last year.

Even harder to believe Jordan turned it down.....or is it, Jordan being Jordan ??

Danny can offer #4, #12 1 of AB, Smart or KO along with a sweetener of JY, Hunter, or Rozier AND additional picks to acquire a star on draft night. Danny will be a BUSY man on and around draft night. Not to mention free agency when he can basically sign any 2 guys he wants.....meetings, meetings, meetings.

If pick 1 or 2 is on Danny's hand, should he trade it for a STAR like the LOVE trade (not for Love for sure), or build the team around pick 1 or 2?

As good as they are, neither Ingram or Simmons are an absolute sure thing. If we can package them for a guy who fits our team I would absolutely do it. Players that I would trade for include Jimmy Butler, James Harden (If Houston decides they can't build around him), Russell Westbrook (if OKC loses Durant and wants to rebuild), Bradley Beal, Blake Griffin (incident fall-out), and Rudy Gobert. All of these options would take us sweetening the pot (except maybe Beal), but I think it would definitely be an option.

He'd be crazy not to draft Simmons or Ingram. Number 3 is a whole different story. you trade that bad boy.

I think sign-and-trades won't happen this summer as everybody has the cap room to make a deal and they are less common nowadays anyway. But if you had to trade for a star under contract who would it be and why?

No way in hell the Celtics trade a #1 or #2 pick for a player like Beal or Gobert.

Well sign and trades aren't only used when cap space isn't available. Say Horford wants to come to Boston, but he wants a 5 year deal. Celtics can't give him a 5 year deal, but the Hawks can in a sign and trade. Granted, we wouldn't be willing to give up much at all in that scenario, but that's one way. Also, could be useful for signing a restricted free agent to prevent their current team to match an offer.

No Lebron against Houston tomorrow night.
Sacramento on the back-to-back resting half the team apparently against Portland tonight. Must be resting up for playoffs.
Chris Fedor: As #Cavs have been saying repeatedly, they want their stars to get extended rest. Resting Tuesday vs. HOU gives LeBron 4 days off. Rare.

Vuc is not worth two lottery picks, he cannot play defense. Would be better off trading for Kanter if that's the type of center you want, I would take Poeltl/Luwawu as the two picks over him.

They're neck and neck with NY and Milwaukee in the standings, definitely a soft tank strategy being employed over there.

Big chance now for HOU to get unexpected win @CLE
Still they have to win yes, but...
Also POR need every win bad...Im not sure they would win SAC with Cousins
Great news...against DAL

Rudy Gobert in his third season is averaging 9.2 Pts, 10.8 Rebs, and 2.2Blks.
Deandre Jordan in his third season averaged 7.1, 7.2, and 1.8.
Gobert is 7'1 (two inches taller than Jordan) and is already viewed as one of the three best defensive centers in the league. He has far more offensive potential than Jordan. If Utah called and offered that deal we would take it in a heartbeat. If Boston calls an offers that deal, Utah listens politely and then hangs up the phone.

I agree, probably not a deal I would do. What other 4/5 in the league do you think we could target and get. I don't see us adding a difference maker with either of those two picks in what is a two person draft (three if Bender is somewhat comparable to Porzingis).

When was the last NBA sign-and-trade? I seem to remember a lot of these 5+ years ago, but for some reason can't remember any in recent history. Wiggins kinda was a sign-and-trade, but I wouldn't count that as they had just drafted him. Most elite players I feel don't like them as they weaken the team they are joining (even though they get the extra money). Lots of teams don't like to participate because it means they are abandoning signing their own player.
