Before today's game the Braves were 487 - 0 when taking a 6 run lead into the 8th inning! I can almost feel the pain of all Brave's fans right now. They are fighting to keep their slender lead alive in the NL, and to lose like this - just OUCH!

EDIT: I misunderstood the announcer. The stat is actually that MLB teams were 487 - 0 this season when leading my six runs going into the 8th inning.

With the exception of Griffey, Brandon Phillips has been my favorite non Red Sox player of all time. Between his style of play and his reputation as an all time great teammate and guy, he was so easy to like. Getting to see him play today and hit that homer was as satisfying of a relatively unimportant Red Sox moment as I can remember, for me personally.

Also, i really hope Swihart makes the postseason roster as the backup catcher, I'm not high on Vasquez at all. Swihart has really improved defensively at catcher, can play all over the place, pinch run, and is hitting .300 over the last two months.

Not looking good once again for the home team. Now 7.5 ahead of the Spankees with 6 head to head remaining. The bell is close to tolling and the good feelings of a week or so ago have been fully washed away. The Stros are just clearly a better team. They just have better players and know how to win.

Also, one needs to ask themselves a question. Bottom of the 9th. Wildcard game. One run lead. Who in the Sox pen can you say is a lock for closing it out?

I like football but don't love it or have to watch every regular season Pats game. Trying to watch this first Pats game and I'm already bored to tears. Just switched back to a movie I was watching. Football is nowhere near as exciting as basketball. The first Celtics preseason game will be more exciting to me.

I hate preseason basketball so I won't go that far but I feel you.

Basketball > soccer > football > hockey > baseball

That said I'll watch every Patriots game this year regardless

I haven't watched an inning of baseball all year. To me, the sports where teams are on both offense and defense simultaneously (soccer, basketball, hockey) are much more exciting than the alternating offense/defense sports like baseball and football. The endings are always better because either team has a chance in the final seconds.

To each their own.

Brady and Belichick are arguably the best athlete and coach in American sports history, in any sport. In fact, I would say definitely so in Belichick's case. Guy has won with every kind of team imaginable and had sustained success in a rapidly changing sport in a league designed to promote parity. The Patriots aren't even the same team half to half, never mind season to season. I don't think that the 2nd best American sports coach, whoever it is, is even close to being close to him, personally.

For Brady, he is on a pantheon with Ali, Jordan, and Gretzky, and likely above the latter two at this point. He might not be an athlete, per se, but his discipline, focus, consistency, intelligence, longevity, precision, and clutch play are likely better than any other US athlete in any sport, ever. The guy has to make multiple split-second decisions on every play for almost 20 years now, and almost never makes a mistake. The dude has like 8 go-ahead drives in the last 3 minutes of the 4th quarter or OT in Super Bowls, and it could have easily have been 9 or 10. We could live from now until the end of time, and no one else will ever approach that. He's a machine.

I fully admit it will be tougher for me to care about the NFL I think when Brady ever retires. I dread the day when that happens but he keeps speaking like he will play longer then most think.

They won't be in the wildcard game so it doesn't matter. You've been at this for weeks, and every time, the Red Sox build the lead back up. Lesson being, no point in overreacting to a couple of losses in a 162 game season. If they win tonight they are 3-4 against the Astros, hardly one being clearly a better team lol.

Also 7.5 up in the division with a few weeks to go "isn't looking good for the home team"? They just swept a good team on the road, so no, two close losses to a great team haven't washed away any good feelings. They lost the first two games in Houston earlier this year then came back to win the last two games of the series. You should really stop worrying about the Yankees, their rotation is garbage.

There again is no lesson. Everything I stated is fact. Period. There was good feelings as I‘ve stated. Fact. Now there isn’t. Also fact.

Curiously, you didn’t answer the question I posited at the end. I wonder why....

That kind of talk reminds me of ‘11. I was full throttle myself. Weei was saying book your playoff tickets. Then they didn’t even make the playoffs. That should be a lesson here, but I guess not.

I ask you as well. Answer my question. That answer should be very sobering.

Kimbrel? Really? He of the lets walk guys and then let runs score? He of the lack of consistent command. Yeah no. He’s not the same this year period. The Kimbrel from last season after say, June? Sure thing. Not this year.

Nonsense? Hardly.

Looked pretty damn dominant last night. And yeah a lot of what you've said these last few weeks has been nonsense, like the Betts stuff.

Anyways, awesome win last night. Is the bell close to tolling now that that the lead is back to 8.5?

Anyone remember the Super Bowl? Of course you do!

Pats "defense" gives up 41 points. Costs us the title.

Matt Patricia leaves to coach the Lions.

And now this! :o

Ugh. I am sure Jets fans are going to think they are SB bound now but seriously......Matt Patricia...:banghead:
