It can be a little more nuanced than that. Lets say Ainge can get from 14 to 8. In this draft that is much more likely than usual because teams draft boards are so radically different. Smart and 8 can get you to 3 maybe using 26 and 30 along the way. NOT saying I want to do this just saying it can get done when you have 3 first round draft picks and probably willing to kick in a future one at this point.

I think as fans, we are wayyyyy above our heads in terms of Smarts value. Smart, to me, Is in the category of Bledsoe and Beverly. But maybe that’s just me. Lol. I see no way Warriors even entertain such an idea.

I think Smart is better than those two. His defense is much better than both, Beverly can't do anything other than defend, Bledsoe is a choker and imo overrated

Hear me out...

BOS gets: Andrew Wiggins, #2
GS gets: Hayward (opt in with extension years tacked on), Marcus Smart (absorbed into TPE)

BOS gets: #4, Thaddeus Young, Sato, Felicio
CHI gets: Kemba Walker, #14

Boston then flips #2 and #4 along with expiring salary (Young, Sato, Felicio, Kanter, Poirier) to HOU for Harden.

Boston ends up with a starting 5 of Harden/Brown/Wiggins/Tatum/Theis. Bench of Robert Williams/Grant Williams/Langford - 1st round picks they'd need to develop - and tax payers MLE/minimum salary signings.

No NBA team other than Detroit in 03-04 over the last 40 years has won a title without an MVP caliber talent - most had 2. Harden is that. Tatum could be one day in the near term which gets us 2.

If we can have overlap of Harden being what he is now and Tatum becoming what he can be, we can win a title.

Don't worry after the draft we will hear that Boston offered everything to move up, and offered more than anyone else in the trades that happened

That isn't the narrative. They acquired wiggins known they had a top 4 pick coming in so they could pair his contract with the pick to get a better player.

Not that they're using the pick to get out of the player.

It’s not just dumping Wiggins though. It’s getting a very good player in Hayward, who is a perfect fit for that team. It’s getting multiple first round picks, including a late lottery pick, ontop of the fact that get to dump his disaster deal.

So I kind of think Hayward+14 for Wiggins+2 is kind of pretty close to fair value. I mean Wiggins himself is a negative value contract in my opinion, there's no evidence he does anything that helps you win. Hayward would be perfect for Golden State, basically they would have turned a departing free agent Kevin Durant into Hayward and next years MIN pick. Not bad.

But Wiggins being a non-winning player is why the deal is also hard to do for the c's. He makes enough that you still can't really get below the tax line, especially if you have the #2 picks salary on your books. I don't really see him fitting one the c's, so you probably then have to use some combination of 26, 30, future firsts, young guys to dump the salary.

It could also be Warriors just want Smart and a top 10 pick while also unloading Wiggins on Boston?

Cs now have to package 14/26/30 to move up into top 10 while also creating a TPE large enough to accommodate Wiggins. Hayward to Atlanta with nothing coming back would accomplish that. Maybe the "big deal" Hawks guy was talking about was the Warriors one.

Too much work lol. And I don't want to lose Smart.

They ain't moving it for Hayward. Very poor value. I don't like Wiggins but not that much.

I’d be happy for Hayward if he got to go play with the Warriors, they’re slightly better than the Hawks.

If we got the number 2 pick we could trade w/ filler to the bulls for WCJ and the number 4. Trade the number 4 & Kemba Smart fillers to Houston for Harden. Sign Rondo. Starting five:

Rondo JB Tatum Harden WCJ

I love the idea overall and I see the GS part of it, but I don't understand why Chicago would trade their pick for Kemba. Mortgaging their future for a 30+ year old undersized point guard with a bad knee seems like a recipe for a bad time.

There is absolutely zero chance the Bulls move #4 for Kemba.

Return to Boston Celtics
