But how good would murray amd johnson look on this team.

Murray/pritchard
Smart/fournier
Brown/nesmith
Tatum/johnson
Timelord/thompson

They'd look good, probably help them win this game even.

DeRozan only had two buckets on him in like 20 possessions down the stretch, even though Pop was feeding him as much as we were feeding Tatum. And Demar was struggling harrrrrd on both of those baskets (with questionable calls on both). That was some absolutely next level ****.

Smart did it despite getting some tough calls early too, I think the refs were trying to send him a message after his run in but that might just be my tin foil ref hat at work. He was fantastic though.

Missed the game tonight just wanna gauge the room here did anything of merit happen? Anything very long dicked and heavy balled happen possibly?

Omg so bummed I missed this **** can’t wait to re watched this joint.

Of course we’re finals contenders now and no longer the underachievers we were two games ago obviously.

Wow Jayson Tatum I can only imagine the show he must’ve put on comedian you must’ve gone through every pair of shorts and boxes of tissues you have during this performance.

Good

Time Lord. The guy just has so much impact on the game.

Me, who never doubted the Celtics even down big. Why? Because we’re down big almost every game!

Bad

The refs. So many bad calls. And they were giving the soft whistle for much of the night, which I think had a big impact on the first half, because only Tatum could exploit it. Then weirdly they swallowed their whistle in the third, and we got back in it.

We saw this a little against Charlotte, but not having a real point guard can be really dangerous when the other team is trapping and fouling. Smart barely got that ball to mid court, and of course Tatum missed a free throw, which I can’t criticize, it’s just you need a better option.

The NBA app which cut out for me during overtime! And it’s basically impossible to scroll back to where you left off, so I missed at least two minutes of clock time.

No garbage time for guys like Langford/Fournier/Ojele to get some free stats. Better luck next time guys.

Consistency. Part of Pierce's greatness was how long he did it, and how often he pulled out defensive excellence in the clutch.

So while Tatum has caught up to Pierce,

he still has to pass him in the career marathon.

Agree.

Jayson is mega-talented & hopefully will be a multiple year All Pro & CELTIC stud for a long long time.

Do not compare him with the #3/4 Celtic of all time until at least 5-6 years from now.

Crow tastes good with salt.

I was watching the draft until my dad texted me and said we tied it. It was heart attack city afterwards.

I agree that it's too early to compare, but Pierce himself said that Tatum will surpass him eventually because he's more talented, and it's already apparent. The only things that Pierce have over Tatum right now is his longevity and toughness, and of course a title. As it stands, Tatum seems to be a better scorer and potentially a better defender, and he is just as clutch as the Truth and is on his way to building his legend in Boston.

Not a knock on Pierce at all, he's the 3rd greatest Celtic ever. But what Tatum is doing at 19 years of age all but points to him supplanting him in that top 3 pantheon of Celtics greats, if he ever spends his entire career in Boston.

EDIT: Forgot about Havlicek, who really should be considered the 3rd greatest Celtic of all time. Sorry, Truth

I know you love Pierce, but there's no way he should even be seriously considered for ranking over Russell, Bird, or Havlicek.

And while I've traditionally ranked him 4th, Cooz has a powerful case for that ranking too, and a lot of other Celtics ranked higher in league MVP voting and all-NBA teams than Pierce ever did (Russell/Bird/Hondo/Cooz, plus Cowens/Parish/McHale/Garnett, and actually Sharman too).

I'm a big Paul Pierce fan, but you can see the trajectory of Jayson Tatum's career.

Only way Tatum doesn't surpass Pierce is if the NBA ceases to exist, for whatever reason.

There's just no stopping the Jayson Tatum train.

Jayson Tatum is on a collision course with greatness.

Tatum and Nesmith were great.

For the fire brad guys, Popovich had the worst coaching decision of the night. Why do you challenge on the Timelord alleyoop? Sure he wasnt fouled but there were like 30 seconds left... the mathematical expectation of two Timelord free throws is 1 point for the Cs. Instead you challenge, knowing the best outcome is a jump ball between Poetl and Timelord and Jaylen drills his three and more time ticks off the clock.

Just take your chances with Timelord freethrows and save the time on the clock. Im like "do you really want timelord to jump it up and just let the celtics reset their whole offense instead of having our worst free throw shooting trying a pair with the clock stopped?"

It was an emotional decision of "hey that wasnt a foul!" But totally illogical (unless you really think Poetl can beat Rob to a jump ball... I dont).

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Who remembers when Nate Duncan had Jonathan Isaac higher on his board than Tatum?

Stay in your traditional mode, Fencer - then you will be correct.
CONSISTENT & DURABLE EXCELLENCE is why Paul is going to the HOF & why he is 3/4 in Celtic history.

This is JT’s thread.
I am not going to debate Celtic rankings again - something we have debated countless times in the past.

There were quite a few, that I know of, that had Jonathan Isaac higher on the draft board than Jayson Tatum.

Bobby Marks originally had him #13 on his top 25 players under 25 a couple of months ago

He ended up changing it and moving him to #5, which is still way too low.

Biggest halftime comeback in Celtics history!!!

Tatum was amazing. Tying Larry Bird for most points in Celtics history.

Two straight games now that Nesmith has outplayed Fournier and props to Brad for staying with Nesmith.

Return to Boston Celtics
