Can he still play NBA ball? Need someone to give a good report of his FIBA play to help sus out if he is shot or not.

He was great in the FIBA tournament. Maybe top 3 on their team among reasons they won it all. Schroder there too.

Gotta respect the “Take No Prisoners” vibe from the Daniel Theis Fan Club account.

Makes sense why we beat the Pacers by so much now...Theis trying to tank his way out.

He looked good in the World Cup, feisty/whingy as ever. I reckon green is his colour.

I posted this idea before, but

Theis minimum salary is ~2 million as a 7th year veteran. His salary with the Pacers is 9.1 million. The difference is 7.1 million. If Theis were willing to give up say $2 million net to rejoin the Celtics, he could take a buyout from the Pacers for $5.1 million, which saves the Pacers $4 million from a player they aren't playing. Then he takes the $2 million minimum to play for the Cs and he makes up half of what he was bought out for.

And most importantly, you then cut Kornet (or save him for a trade).

Theis for 2m is a good deal for the Cs.

If not KO then Theis (who is definitely more realistic as he's not currently in the rotation).

Yeah, Theis is more realistic and will be better than Kornet or Queta.

It's a good fit now that Theis will be with KP and Al.

Back then it was Al, Rob, Grant, and Theis.

Theis is a good complementary piece to KP.

And Theis will allow Al to get more time off during the regular season.

I'll try this again as it didn't work a few months ago, but does anyone remember the original videos made when we first got Theis that were "highlights" with explosion and fire visual effects whenever he did anything at all? Even hitting the rim on a jumpshot they'd do an explosion like it was amazing. In fairness, he couldn't make a shot and was pretty terrible when we first got him and he hadn't come into his own stateside yet.

We just need a couple of 80's Celtics players to make it happen. If you're reading this Rick, you may hang onto Theis until we know for sure Danny isn't playing ball. If you're reading this Danny, please let KO go, and if you refuse please let Rick know so he can put a label on Theis and get him to Boston ASAP.

In the first 1:05, he does a nice job of attacking a closeout, drives, draws a help defender, nice dish to open man in the dunker' spot. Nice weak side block. Slips screen, rolls to rim, slams down the dunk.
1:13 nice pass from way behind the 3 pt line to teammate under the basket - leads his teammate to the basket with the pass - puts it right on the money where his teammate can get the ball but not the defender, leads to an and-1
2:10 even though he doesn't block this one (and JJJ scores it) it's still a nice job of contesting the shot and trying to block it by Theis. He makes this same play every time and he'll get that block (or force the miss) more times than not
2:16 nice cut, nice reverse layup finish
5:26 nice touch on the mid range push shot
5:56 nice hustle to get down the floor and tips it in
6:38 catches it on the wing, knocks down the 3
7:35 nice put-back
7:42 flashes towards the FT line, catches it, turns and knocks down the mid range J
8:04 slips the screen, rolls to rim, misses the shot but nice job staying with it, getting his own rebound and putting it in
8:12 catches it on the wing, attacks the closeout, banks it in
9:12 nice defensive switchability here, defends Haliburton, who can't get a shot off against him
*Checks back into the game with a black eye, took a shot to the face - not many guys in the league who are as tough as Theis
11:34 catches it near the elbow out of the BLOB, hits the mid range J

If we can sign him as a buyout guy, you definitely do it.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Theis was pretty great in FIBA this summer. I would love to bring him back.

Edit: nice timing Hal….got in just before me!
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Theis on a buyout would be great. But I'd really love to trade for him instead, tbh. Use the TPE to acquire some random filler now, like Otto Porter Jr. in TOR. Wait 60 days and then you can aggregate his salary with others.

OPJ+Kornet+1 bench filler guy is enough salary to acquire Theis via trade. Then you preserve his $9.6M team option for next year which gives you the salary to potentially acquire another decent piece with a pick attached.

Of course, this is a killer on Wyc's wallet but IDGAF about that lol

We have a week to get that TPE salary guy and be able to aggregate by the Feb 8, 2024 deadline. Assuming it's 90 days still before you can aggregate, that's Nov 10.

I'm assuming so, but can we just sign him after we cut him so recently?

So you're saying you don't know and we might be screwed and no way to guarantee banner 18 because Brad was shortsighted and didn't consult any of us first?

Brad's clearly out-thinking you both. He knew the simple act of signing Wenyen once guaranteed the Cs the title. There's no reason to pay to keep him around. That'd just be redundant at this point.

Or that he'll go on an endless cycle of signing and then cutting.

If signing him guarantees a championship, what does separately signing him 38 times in 2 years do??

We were all ecstatic to finally not have to watch Theis anymore and now we're trying to get him back?
