sam_I_am wrote:Hauser “only” shot 3-7 last night without Brogdon. Honestly though, he looked pretty borderline at times last night much like summer league game because he tried or had to do too much. He is still just a 3 pt specialist and the other 4 guys need to be rocking for him to look good.

So you missed the play where he drove to the basket, stopped around the FT line, then hit the turnaround jumper?

I’m glad he can make a few plays, hit a few mid range jumpers and make a few defensive plays too.

But his value to this team is 100% as a 3 point shooter and when he is asked to do more it just doesn’t go as well (obviously you are ignoring those plays - and there were more than a few) That means he will be more of a situational specialist playing with 3-4 starters/best players and not truly a Gallinari replacement - at least for now. Gallo had a lot more in his offensive arsenal than being a stretch forward and could have been a guy to help carry the load for the second team.

Helps our depth a lot, and he's getting the opportunity to cement a rotation role. Gallo would've buried him. Don't care if he can't playmaker like Gallo, he's a find. Pritchard with better size and defense.

I was focusing on Hauser when he was in the game. His defense against the Wizards was very good, as can be seen in the video. He was very effective at switching, and so was everyone else. Nice to see, and the payoff for Hauser is likely to be more playing time. We can use his shooting, and so far he has delivered.

The guy has high BBIQ to make up for lack of athleticism. He knows where to be on defense and moves his feet. On offense he just makes the right plays. I’m impressed.

Happy for Hausah. This is just the beginning. I think he's slowly solidifying his place in the rotation with this niche role.

Can we just get him an open shot every time down the court? We'd score 200 points a game

Until the Knicks game I felt like they weren’t passing him the ball enough. This dude needs to shoot at least 5 threes a game, he’s so elite at shooting.

Career %:
Drummond FT: 47.4%
Hauser threes: 48%

Hauser has 1 turnover in 118 minutes this season. Even if he isn't tasked with much creation that's pretty impressive. +29 in on/off. +25 net rating. 2nd in the league in 3P% behind old friend Olynyk (min 20 attempts). 20th in the entire NBA in +/- despite very limited minutes.

Remember when people freaked because he was bad for a summer league game ? That was fun.

From the Athletic:

“After a record-setting night for the Celtics offense, Jayson Tatum and Sam Hauser went back and forth over a most important matter: Hauser’s 3-point celebrations.

Though Hauser said he’s not big on them most of the time, he apparently broke character once on Saturday night. After one of his four first-half 3-point makes, he cracked up Tatum with an over-the-top reaction. Following a quick postgame lift, Tatum asked Hauser to repeat what he had said after the shot. “I said, ‘Boom, motherf—-r,’” Hauser replied.

He might need to find a new catchphrase. Tatum suggested that one doesn’t fit Hauser’s personality.”

I get all the Hauser love but there is no excuse for missing 3 3 pointers last night. He should make all of them.

Seriously though, he has to be the most talented candidate for all-star 3 point contest in NBA history. Has there ever been an NBA player with a better looking uncontested 3 point shot? Craig Hodges 21/25 3 pt contest record is in jeopardy. Can Sam top Korver’s season best 53.6%? He is over 54% so far.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Both Smart and Mazzulla are pleased with Hauser's defense. "Sound" defense is all that's needed from him -- but that is needed, because he'll be picked on. His teammates pick on him in practice to get him ready for that.

I got most of that from the Smart interview in https://www.celticsblog.com/2022/11/6/23442994/boston-celtics-offense-new-york-knicks-three-pointers-jayson-tatum-joe-mazzulla-sam-hauser, rather than the Mazzulla one with bad audio. But I presume Hauser was the topic when Mazzulla used the word "sound".

For a backup wing player practicing man defense, it's hard to imagine a better set of teammates to have than Tatum, Brown, Brodgon, Smart ...
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".
