The call on Tatum was not correct - Tatum should have been shooting two free throws- look at it again - the defender was facing him with both hands on him before the elbow. Foul 101, especially in that situation. What makes it worse is the traditional call we saw the game before where Kemba gets the foul call he needed on Rozier with minimal contact. So other than the refs getting it wrong and nearly costing the Celtics the game, why is the benefit of the doubt given to the trailing team? I've seen players literally chase a player to touch him with a finger and it is a foul. Now Tatum is legitimately fouled and the whistle is swallowed? VanFleet had a free pass to do whatever he wanted to do - something the NBA needs to change.VeryMuchWoke wrote:The call on Tatum was correct, just because that's how that's always called, but the NBA should really look into changing that. John Goble and Lauren Holtkamp are both awful refs. I'm not sure about Karl Lane. This crew still didn't manage to be as bad as the Charlotte crew.

Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

Tatum will get the superstar treatment post-ASB.

yeah i don't understand how that's a foul on tatum, tho i agree i see that call more often than not. it just looks bad because the little guy got whapped upside the head. but an offensive player needs to initiate contact outside the player control zone to be an offensive foul. i don't see how tatum did that. he didn't swing his elbows outwards, he kept them as close to his body as possible. he also didn't move towards the defender. it's total crap that a defender can get up under an offensive player's jersey, and then any motion by the offensive player is called an offensive foul. i understand why the officials do it for appearances, but it's not a correct call.
sadly players are going to keep doing that until the refs stop rewarding them and properly call a foul on the defender.
