yeah jaylen has been excellent, playing within himself and working hard on both ends. perfect option 1a guy.
that said if i'm offered that trade i'm taking it faster than you can say Antetokounmpo.
No doubt Giannis is the better player, but JB is the better fit for this current Celtics team.
JB can defend the likes of Brunson and Luka.
The shooting will also be missed as Giannis is not a good shooter.
One of the strengths of this Celtics team is they are balanced.
Replacing JB with Giannis will make the Cs unbalanced.
Actually I think it's exactly the opposite. Giannis balances Tatum much better. It's a credit to Mazzulla that he's made the Jays' pairing work, but I think it'd be a lot easier with Giannis. He's a great defender, rebounds like a big, and puts insane pressure on a D but in a very different way than Tatum. How do you build a wall against Giannis and at the same time match up on Tatum and all the C's shooters? Our team with Giannis instead of JB is precisely what Milwaukee has been trying (and failing) to build for years. Unstoppable.
And Giannis is not a casual star lol. The guy has been carrying the Bucks franchise loyally for years, and they have mostly let him down. I see it more like a KG situation, he's a warrior who deserves better. I'm glad Brad is about building the best team, not being a sentimental homer (see Smart, M). I love JB but the talent difference is real.
Great defender? I would say overrated defender. Often injured during or before playoffs: 2020 injured vs heat, 2023 injured vs Heat, 2024 injured before playoff.
He won a title cause Brooklyn lost kyrie after game 2, down 0-2, and with Harden on one leg!
Milwaukee almost lost a series playing basically vs KD and a bunch of scrubs.
Can't sink a FT, can't shoot, not great in crunch time.
The physical gap is great vs JB, not the talent.
