Will quickly add, I think you'll see Thornton moved and Gerald Wallace reenter the rotation provided his body can withstand a nightly role in a ten man rotation. Having him out there with Young will be beneficial in improving his defensive learning curve.

Totally agree...much rather give minutes at backup pg to Rivers than have low 2nd rounder.
Also agree, and I HATE Rivers game.

They can always sign the guy to a 10 day contract from whatever D-League team drafts him next year. I know the hate for Pressey is strong with many, but he's in his 2nd year in the offense and is the guy you want backing up Turner and Smart when things are going awry. They are evaluating young players who possibly have value or a future with the team. You want someone who can direct traffic for these guys when needed in the hope that they achieve higher levels of success as we go this year.
Depending upon what happens with next season's roster, it's possible they could take on another developmental project. Stevens has has enough unknowns on his plate already, and why add a circus as well (Hi, Jeremiah). Rather open a few slots to add a couple of D-Leaguers later in the season to those 1 year plus unguarnteed years type contracts and see if they can find a surprise there for this year. Especially whe/if Thortnton gets traded or bought out.
There's no guarantee's that happens though. The entire idea here is to see if he can show signs of being the player he was meant to be due to moving to a new team and playing for a guy like Brad, who has shown he can make hte most out of a lot of these guys that come in labeled as garbage(Crawford, Zeller, Turner). If he goes to the Clippers and plays well there we won't get an opportunity to do what you mentioned. Hell we can at least give him a few weeks as back up PG to see what he does. After that if he shows nothing give him to his father for a second rounder right before the deadline.

Re: Jeff Green Traded to the Memphis Grizzlies (official woj tweet page 1)
3:16pm: It’s a 2017 first-rounder headed from Memphis to Boston that’s top-10 protected, reports Chris Herrington of The Commercial Appeal (Twitter link). If the Grizzlies don’t convey it in 2017, it’s top-12 protected for 2018, top-eight protected for 2019, top-six protected for 2020, and unprotected for 2021.
I know the Grizz got burned on a lotto pick before but is it really worth tying your picks up for 6 years? I guess it stops you from trading away your picks.

For Jeff Green that's a really solid haul. Completely unlikely, but the fact that that pick has a chance to be top-3(or even 1st) at all is astounding... For Jeff Green. Nice.

I'll say it again. Ainge is not buying out anyone until after the trade deadline. Absolutely no reason to do it before then. Players can be used to help facilitate trades.

You may be correct, but I don't agree.
One win can be the difference between Joel Embiid and Marcus Smart (no offense to Smart). If hanging onto a vet to get a second rounder causes us to fall even 1 draft slot, then it's a completely stupid move.

I didn't say they would play. I said they won't get bought out. Prince is going to take a seat right next to Nelson and Wallace for the next month.

Ditto here too. He's actually a 2-1, and he's 6'4". He may turn out to be a better option than Pressey.

Given the existing protections on their owned pick to the Nuggets, that's a fantastic haul.
2015 — Owe first-rounder (top-five protected and 15-30 protected through 2016, top-five protected through 2018, unprotected in 2019) to Denver Nuggets (Marreese Speights, Timofey Mozgov).
As widely mentioned, chances are high that the Nuggets pick ultimately gets conveyed in 2017. Our pick would thus be top 8 protected in 2019, with decreasing protections after that. As a small market, questionably-run franchise that is hardly awash in young talent, I pretty much have zero faith in Memphis' ability to keep this party going past the next couple of years. Very strong chance of that pick eventually being a late lottery pick, if not top 10.
As you said, for Jeff Green. Nice indeed.

Agree completely.
Green may even bolt on Memphis after the season. Highway robbery by Ainge. I can wait 5-6 years for this pick. We have enough picks between now and then anyway.

Yup. Gasol and Randolph aren't getting any younger. I like the chances of that pick at least being late lottery by the time it's conveyed.

How funny is it that AInge held out this long for *two* 1st rounders for Green?

Ha. Well he most likely made out better with the one, quality over quantity (which we also have.. Again, ha.) and I doubt Jeff is still there by the time that pick gets here, which makes it a little funnier imo.

What I don't understand is that essentially the risk is the same either way, for one season on each pick you going to risk getting hosed. I would even understand top 3 protecting it but this just drags out the process for 6 years and in the end you still end up with the unprotected pick.

Hold on. So are we getting two first round picks for Jeff Green ? or just one ?

We will probably end up with something like the 11th pick in the 2019 draft.

One. Caveman was saying that Danny originally was holding onto Green unless he got 2 picks, but the one he settled for is likely to be better than what he would of got had he "settled" for 2 picks.

Very interesting words by Danny Ainge. Saying sometimes certain voices snuff Ou others. He also said he is trying to create a wining culture for the Celtics. IMHO, he was talking about Jeff Green.
