Ok it being an incentive based contract is encouraging lol I saw 14 million and almost threw my breakfast at the tv. I really hope lance is the guy bill likes. Sucks that he hasn’t played in a year and might be a lil behind but god damnit his ceiling is the highest of any qb and reminds me a lil of cam with better short/ intermediate accuracy.

O-line is a top 5 unit with Andrews back and onwenu being a steal idk where Trent brown will fit in but **** it. I hope they can trade Steph for either some front 7 help or a pass catcher to bolster our already all pro receiver unit led by superstar nkeal Harry.

I wanted Jimmy G but I understood how unlikely that was

Not so happy with Cam being back but the deal is nothing so whatever

Jimmy G would just be a bandaid anyways, much rather them draft and develop one of the top QB’s in this draft. Like SmartWentCrazy said, Cam is more likely to not throw a fit when he gets replaced.

OK, that's better.

FWIW, Jimmy has missed 50% of the Niner games during his time there. Something like 23 of 48 starts, plus the parts of games he got injured in. Sat out pretty much the entire season with a high ankle sprain.

Garoppolo would be cool but yeah the injury concerns are too much. You basically would need the best backup in the league to be able to go into a season with a real shot. I think it took me several hundred tries to remember which of the consonants got doubled up in his name.

Yea I’m out on jimmy GQ as well he’s made of glass, straight up choked in the super bowl, is decently expensive to acquire and expensive to roster. I’m all in on drafting a qb and developing them or even just starting them week 1 **** it. Can’t be that much worse than killa Cam last year.

FWIW I wouldn’t have minded bringing in Alex smith instead if were going with a retread **** pile.

i just worry Cam gives us another 8-9 win season, and we are drafting in the middle of the 1st again. QBs are always at a premium and we need to either suck or else get very lucky like TB12.

i really hope Cam is not our starter by the end of the season. but i think Bill loves him too much.

Alex Smith is just Cam Newton without the cache in the locker room and would want much more than a 1 year 5M contract.

I go Cam, but don't agree on Smith's market.

Cam is a low-end starter/high-end backup and his contract reflects that.

Not sure Smith would get more than 5 but his accuracy is much better than cam and doesn’t turn it over as much either. But I’d have hated him too lol I just hope we draft someone and they usurp Cam at some point this season. Preferably early in the season.

I get that this is only $3.5mm guaranteed and $5mm including roster bonuses. But cam looked washed up last year. Time to move on.

Brady signing for 4 years is hilarious. I couldn't have imagined that after his last season here. Reminds me a bit of the Clemens revival (all those Cy Youngs after 4 seasons of .500 ball). Funny how pats didn't win a title during Brady's best stat years but won 3 after them. Maybe Bill's direction is to have a complete team first then add the missing QB like the early 2000s. We know Bill's previous experience was winning titles with Phil and Hoss at QB so you can win it without a HOF QB.

The Brady extension is just a typical fake NFL extension so Tampa can realize some cap space this season.

I heard Alex Smith's leg needed 17 surgeries to get it where it is. And since he's in his late 30s maybe he should let it go and coach or hit the tv booth. Enjoy those millions and golf on two legs.

Cam might surprise us this year and play to his capabilities. We'll see.

Jimmy G is ok but after his super bowl performance choke job the shine lost a bit of luster. Plus like a lot of QBs he's often injured.

Smith threw 8 picks in 8 games last year and had 2 fumbles.

Again, he’s Cam Newton, except he wont have the cache or respect in the locker room. No reason to make the move.

He also led a hapless Redskins team to a 5-0 record in the last 5 games he started last season (5-1 overall in the 6 games he started). 3 of his 8 INTs and his only loss of the season came in his first game back from a horrific injury (first start since, at least). 1 of 2 fumbles came in his first game back, and he recovered it himself.

He is a great game manager and a leader, and he also happens to be the guy who was happy to mentor a rookie Pat Mahomes.

A younger Cam was much more talented than Alex Smith, Alex Smith is probably the better leader, and the more accurate passer if not the better decision maker as well. And that's a younger Cam we are talking about.

Great move. I love Cannon, but there’s a good chance he was going to get cut.

I’m not really trying to die in the Alex smith hill lol don’t like him much either. Just think his accuracy in the quick short passing game is better than cam and fits in the offense better but again I really strongly dislike either one. I guess Cam does have the advantage of knowing the offense and will have another full offseason so hopefully he’ll be improved.
