After watching this Suns seeason, I've concluded that they need a defensive minded coach to fix that end of the floor. Preferably with championship pedigree so he can command the respect of his players and get the necessary buy in. A guy like Frank Vogel for instance.

Coaches of NBA finalists from last 5 seasons that got fired — Frank Vogel (2x), Monty Williams, Mike Budenholzer (2x), Ime Udoka, Mike Malone.

Jason Kidd might be next.

Nah, enough with the Lakers retreads. They need a new face - someone like Mike Brown deserves a chance finally. Maybe with someone like that coach from the Buck's title season to run the offense.

Another coach fired because player-coach relationship was not good.

Like Jenkins, Coach Bud also gave minutes to a rookie like Ryan Dunn.

But both coaches are out now.

Guess it's not about playing young guys or having a 10-man rotation.

TBH, these days I think that a lot of these Teams need at least 2 Head Coach-caliber Coaches, on their Staff.
Reminds of the Patriots, when they had Defensive Coordinator Romeo Crennel and Offensive Coordinator Charlie Weis.

They were both Head Coach-caliber Coordinators, under Bill Belichick.
And by-the-way, during their tenure, the Patriots Won 3 Championships in 4 years. IJS

Celts are lucky to have Cassell as their 2nd Head Coach.

Rumor is Phoenix will release their GM as well. This makes New Orleans, Denver and possibly soon-to-be Phoenix in the job search for a new GM.

I wonder if Austin Ainge will get any interviews for a GM position in another organization. I remember last summer, Austin interviewed for the Charlotte front office but they went in another direction. Austin has 15 years of experience as an assistant GM, it'd be nice if he landed a head job. One of the great downstream effects of the 80s Celtics success is you had all these Celtic-associated individuals running all these different teams, or head coaching them. Bird in Indy, Carlisle in Dallas, Ainge here in Boston and of course McHale in Minny. Having a front office "tree" with friendly branches spread out throughout multiple franchises can be a good thing, so I hope Austin at least gets some interviews around the league.

Nope, I don’t want to lose our talent. I’m selfish. I’ll be happy for him/them, but in all honesty, It’ll irk.

Wow, just when you don't think dumb comments can't get any dumber.. Coach Bud was not fired because of player relations. He was fired because someone has to take to blame for the worst roster constructio and horrible record.

Having players who are ball needy. That can't or wont play defense is easily the cause.

To even bring up the amount of players that was rotated or the fact that a rookie started near mid- end of the year versus most of the year when they were still losing is pushing a **** narrative that is so easily false.

And that narrative has to be the dumbest narrative I've seen since joining this message board.

Read on Twitter

John Gambadoro: The Phoenix Suns fired Mike Budenholzer for several reasons. The team did not compete. There was no energy. The team didn’t like each other. His relationship with players was not good. They were awful defensively. Just overall performance. Overall it was considered “A bad fit” 51 mins ago – via x.com

Bud is not the main problem in Phoenix and everybody knows it. The Beal trade was stupid even if they didn’t up give up all that much. Too much salary committed to scoring and not enough committed to defense. Phoenix is 26th in defensive rating and 13th in offensive rating. Better coaching maybe gets them a couple spots higher in both but roster construction is the main problem.

"A player of Bradley Beal's caliber"

Chris Haynes: So league sources told me earlier in the season, Coach Budenholzer met with Bradley Beal, and he told Bradley Beal that he wanted him to be the Jrue Holiday of this team. Now listen—understanding that Jrue Holiday is a player who might become a Hall of Famer—definitely one of the best defensive players we’ve seen in this league out on the perimeter. But you’ve got to understand, like, when you’re talking to a guy, a player of Bradley Beal’s caliber, to tell him to play like Jrue Holiday—it wasn’t well received. That’s the way it was relayed to me. It was not well received. I think the better way to probably explain Beal’s role is to say: “Hey, this is what we kind of need you to do. This is what we want you to work on on this side of the ball.”
