Good read on Hayward/George (either-or scenario) pursuit: http://www.celticshub.com/2017/06/23/paul-george-gordon-hayward-next-steps/

Costs and Considerations

If this ultimately is an either-or decision between Hayward or George it looks like the calculus goes as follows:

• If all thing being equal you prefer Hayward, you try to string Indiana out until free agency begins so you can try to sign Hayward but still have George as a fall-back
• If all things being equal you prefer George, you might as well trade for him now if he’s willing to complete a renegotiate-and-extend and you don’t think it’s financially viable to carry both
• If you prefer George but are unsure about the extension, you string things out to try to sign Hayward and then only trade for George as a fall-back if you can get him for the one season rental price, which should be very low
• If you miss out on signing Hayward and George is making it clear that he is a one year rental at a multi-year trade price, you move on with neither

In all instances that involve Hayward or George (or Blake Griffin, if you prefer) it’s best to assume that Olynyk, Zeller, and Mickey are off the team. Yabusele probably gets stashed or traded, unless you are giving a rotation piece in the trade for George or moving Bradley or Crowder to clear space for Hayward. The paths likely leads to Isaiah Thomas re-signing in 2018, but it’s at least possible that lottery luck in 2018 brings in generational talent prospects and kicks the team into more of a rebuilding path. The door for a future Anthony Davis trade remains open, with Al Horford probably used as the salary match and a number of high quality picks and prospects going out the door in June or July 2018 as the price.

Adding only one of Paul George or a max free agent looks like the best combination of immediate gain, financial stability, and future flexibility.

So this is what I expect our depth chart to look like if this Hayward/George plans comes to fruition:

Thomas / Smart / Allen
Hayward / Nader / Bird
George / Brown
Horford / Tatum / Ojelye / Theis
Zizic

We are paper thin in the front court (expected), so who is our target with the MLE? Do we really just bring Amir back?

Bring back Jerebko. Amir is toast, not a penny over vet min.

Just seems like we need someone that isn't a forward. Need another legitimate center on the roster, IMO. I'm not saying Amir is the guy, I was mostly saying like, "reallyyy, we're going to bring Amir back?" I just don't know who the guy is.

I'd love it if he just ended up taking the QO down the line and left the Knicks with nothing.

Not a lot of attractive names on these lists and most of them might not even go for MLE/minimum:

Just so everyone understands:
We can't sign Hayward before trading + extending PG13.
So firstly Danny is trying to agree on a price with the Pacers. Once they agree to that, PG13 has to agree to a max extension.
I'm assuming PG has already agreed to this but Indiana wants more and will play hardball. Could be a few days, could be a few weeks. They have a bit of time.
Anyway, once we trade for PG and then extend him, we can sign Hayward with caproom because we can extend PG13 over the cap with bird rights and it won't hurt our caproom.

This is exactly what he did with KG in late July 2007.

But yeah, I fully expect Paul George and Hayward to be wearing Green come opening night next season. Unless someone comes in and blows Indiana away with an offer, PG13 will be a Celtic. Hopefully by the end of this month. Depends how long Indiana want to wallow in their misery over losing George...

It's haaaaappppeeennnniiiinnnng!
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

My hope would be Deadmon, Reed then Randolph in that order. Bogut I'd offer a vet min deal. Just too many injuries and not a clean fit

Ainge just said on Weei that he doesnt imagine a scenario where he would trade Brown or Tatum at this time.

He also had an interesting answer for signing a free agent first and then trading for a player

Also liked his handling of Holley.
