Would it be “tampering” if Danny told Marcus to go undercover and find out other teams’ future plans? Like when we tipped off Durant to how we gameplanned for Golden State and he went there?

Basically what most of us that are realistic and don't have an irrational boner for Smart have been saying since March. Good for the Celts. We want him back. At a reasonable # for an end of the bench D specialist.
Hey Man, nice shot!

Like, we’re going to offer you 10 million with maximum annual raises, 10.5, 11.0, 11.6 - no one is going to beat that, but can we run a pr misdirection and make it look like there’s a feud so you can find out how teams are thinking about free agency, if Brooklyn would trade DAR, what they think of Jah after half a year, etc.

Smarts “winning plays” are only “winning plays” when your team actually...wins. His warts will be magnified on a non contender. So of its a non contender thats interested...buyer beware.

11 million is like playing into Ainges hands, overpay for sure for what he brings to the table but not a massive unmovable piece in the future.Andrew McCeltic wrote:https://nothinbutnets.com/2018/07/09/brooklyn-nets-pursue-jabari-parker/
Unclear exactly how Dwight’s buyout worked, but the Nets have anywhere from 8 to 11 million in room.

If he leaves the C's for a starting role he might be the worst starting PG in the league no matter where he goes. Sign the QO see if Rozier becomes what some of us think he can be then we shake hands and say bye after the season.

If he doesn’t sign now he is a goner anyway next year

Logic says no. But dont forget IT is just as gritty as Smart, albeit in a different way. 75% of a 30pptpg scorer is still damn good. I dont hate Smart at all I just think he's way overrated here and I think the contract or perhaps lack of will reflect that.
Disagree completely. 75% of IT is a 6th man on a Euro league team. 75% of IT doesn’t get you 23 point a game. It gets you a guy chucking up shots that have little chance of going in because he’s 5’ 8” in a league where everyone else is a foot taller. He relied on his speed and quickness to get his shots off. He can’t do that anymore which means he has very little value. He’s an offensive only player that can’t produce offense.
and still couldn’t guard anyone. The offensive stats are actually fairly close after I went back to look at them - https://herosports.com/nba/player-comparison/isaiah-thomas-vs-marcus-smart
C’mon, I’m not even implying that he is better offensively. What I am saying is that Smart is a better overall player today than IT. Thats not even controversial. All things being equal, every team would take Smart (today) over IT (today). If IT isn’t a dynamic scorer then he brings next to nothing to a team. He can’t guard anyone so he’s a huge liability on the other end of the floor.

Lol, you don't actually believe Brad will play Smart less than 20-25 minutes a night do you? Brad LOVES him, to a fault according to some.

Except he will be our sixth or seventh man and not an "end of the bench D specialist."

But luckily, CBS isn't our GM as well.
GM/Coach dual roles almost never work out. See Doc Rivers and SVG as an example.

And to top it off, he's a "D specialist" even though he is better offensively than Rozier. Lmao.

It doesn't change the fact that he values Smart highly and that he believes Smart impacts winning greatly.
Like I've said so many times, whatever salary Smart gets won't necessarily reflect his actual worth to this team, but is based more on what the market dictates. Ainge (not Stevens) already offered him 12 per last year. To me, that's his baseline value. So seeing the 6M-8M (one even suggested the minimum) makes me just snort and chuckle. Ultimately, he may play for the QO, but it doesn't mean he's worth 6M on a contender.

Based on the fact that Smart is a net positive on offense and that Rozier is a net negative?
