So what contender can Ainge move J Nelson to before the trade deadline? Celtics I'm sure would be looking for an expiring or young player and a 2nd round pick. What contenders need a backup PG that can shoot?

OKC? Maybe something involving a Nelson and a pick for Reggie Jackson. OKC does have the 2nd lowest 3P% in the NBA right now. Good veteran presence. Presti does have a tendency of trading players that refuse extensions...

I'm not entirely sure they do move him. With a starting rookie PG, there's value in having a 10-year vet that has played in the Finals coming off the bench to mentor.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Pelicans seem like a good fit, even if they aren't exactly a contender. A second round pick would do it.

Re: Trade Ideas Thread
You might be able to get Austin Rivers for Nelson..
Remember we're going to see a lot of Marshon Brooks and Jumaine Jones types cycle through in this rebuild..

Yes. You have room and he won't impede you from doing anything else that's on your list.
If we're going to pay top dollar on the FA market this year, it should be guys with substantial room for improvement, and, ideally, guys with star potential.
Among big men, that's Monroe, maybe Kanter.
I'd agree. But if guys you already have are good, why not keep them ?
Because flexibility (i.e. one or two year deals) is more important than locking in a roleplayer at this stage in the rebuilding process.

Re: Trade Ideas Thread
Here's another thought, not related to Nelson but...
Legit chance Zeller or Wright could go to Golden State for something (no idea what, your suggestions appreciated) depending on the Bogut situation. I can't imagine they don't try and do something to fill that hole if it starts to look like a real gamble that he can stay healthy for the playoffs.

True, but when you're going to have an upward of 30 million, nabbing Wright is a great move. Efficient big men in this league don't grow on tree's. He's not impeding you in any other move. You're flexible even with him on board.

I think they've made the decision to roll with Jackson, try to win it all this year and then let him walk. I'd do something like Nelson for two of Jones/Roberson/McGary/Jerrett though. Jones hasn't shown much when given minutes but he is still talented and we may need some talented bodies on the wing next year if Green bolts. Could also do Nelson for Thabeet's TPE and a 2nd rounder, if we just want to clear space.

Just getting one of them would be a win, Nelson has zero trade value.

I also really like PJIII. I would be a fan of that no question.

Yeah I think it's one of the first three plus Jerrett. Jerrett is just in there as filler because OKC is allergic to paying luxury tax.

If Reggie Jackson could be had for Nelson & a pick I'd say he'd be playing in Dallas now with Wright & Crowder as teammates.
This is hardly even fair, the rest of the league is playing checkers and Danny Ainge is playing 12-dimensional chess.

Cavs have supposedly offered Dion Waiters for Kosta Koufos.. How about Wright and the return of their 1st?

Very bad for celtics, I prefer even late first round than a guy like waiters.
Celtics already have SG that has similar level and is more useful player.

Re: Trade Ideas Thread
Dion Waiters is an obvious buy low, he's not being used or developed at all..
Bradley is probably at the peak of his trade value right now, unless he takes a mental leap and/or adds a couple of new offensive tricks..

I like Wright in exchange for Warren and Tolliver instead. Especially, if Jeff Green's on the trade block. In my opinion, you don't acquire Thomas ($6M+ a year for three more years) if you already are developing Smart as your starting point guard. It makes no sense to me.

I'd take that.... Thomas >> Bradley, and it will be difficult to hang onto Wright...
