He also had an interesting answer for signing a free agent first and then trading for a player
In general, what was it?

Basically that it doesnt have to be a sign then trade scenario but the cap is unforgiving so to make some things work other things will have to fall into place.

There's just no way, short of trading Smart, Tatum or Brown in a salary dump.
The only thing I can imagine is that you could deal Bradley, Crowder, Rozier to match salary for George, then deal Smart for someone making roughly 2.8 million a year or less - just a rough calculation, might be off. Guys in that category include Saric, Capela, Gary Harris, Cameron Payne, Justise Winslow.. Myles Turner, if we wanted to add Smart, and more assets to the deal - a lotto pick, basically.
Or, if we traded Jaylen/Marcus to the Knicks for Porzingis - they'll be under the cap - we'd clear a few million in salary, and possibly be able to keep Rozier out of a George deal.

He's already on record as not giving a **** about paying it for a contender. If they trade for George I'm about 90% sure he resigns. It would mean another player is probably coming in as well. Why leave that?
