It leaves you awfully thin behind Bradley and Pierce defensively as Williams is raw and unproven.

I was thinking the same thing initially, but conversely, who on Miami comes close to guarding a Love\KG frontline? They'd get murdered inside. I don't think we can match them smallball with Green\Bass anyways, so why not go the other way.

Rondo/Bradley/Pierce/Love/KG
Ridnour/JET/Williams/Wilcox
Barbosa/Collins/Joseph

Need to pick up a buyout vet 3, or still another big (Ryan Hollins is getting no run in LAC, a 2nd rounder might get him back). Not sure we'd have the money under the hard cap tho.

Need to digest it a little more to be convinced we're better, but at the same time you're getting arguably a top 5 player for a bunch of good but replaceable guys.

Oh, and I liked that Pogue dribbled out the details. Made for a fun guessing game - even tho I was completely wrong....

To be honest, I had originally intended to just sit on it. I had sent a message to UGA Hayes yesterday afternoon to get his opinion on it and to give background information about who the guy is and his type of connections. I was planning to just wait it out.

I trust my friend. He was my sponsor. He was there for the birth of my daughter. I have first hand witness, albeit on a small, non-serious level, of him pulling strings.

As to this deal, he is neither the string puller nor has any interest in it. But he does know some people and I am pretty sure where he got the information.

My intention was not to string anyone along or anything of the sort. Part of the reason for my reservation is that I want this deal to be true so badly that I don't want to jeopardize it. Or worse, if the person I think he is getting his information from, even indirectly, was to lose their job.

Well thanks for sharing, Pogue. Very interesting and provides a spark during what is hopefully an ebb in this season's story.

It's going to be hard waiting until Jan 15, however. :)

Mostly I lurk here but this has been an interesting way to waste the day.

My guess is that Williams would be headed elsewhere in this deal with Boston trading his upside and pedigree for a big defensive wing to throw at LeBron.

Yep, totally understand. But it had the side effect of making it a little more interesting even if that wasn't your intention.

Not sure you're better off in the long run either by giving up those picks on a team that's going to be cash strapped.

Love guards Haslem. Love and KG kill them in small ball.

Maybe they think Sully can do the same as Love? (wishful thinking) but they are similar players, they would coach Sully like Love and hope for the best. They may think he could be a KLove lite or something.
- Guess we can add in Melo for salary/incentive etc.

Essentially we trade depth (Lee, Bass, Green) and youth (Sully, Melo, picks). The rest of the deal helps us also, massively in favour of Williams coming to Boston. If he fails who cares we just let him walk. Love is the center piece and Ridnour is steady.
Any decent SF's available for very little? Unless management thinks Williams/Joseph can handle 12-18mins at SF between them.

Rondo, Ridnour, Barbosa
Bradley, Terry
Pierce, ___, Joseph
Love, Williams
Garnett, Collins, Wilcox

Also we would be in an amazing situation after the big 3 era sadly ends.
JET, Ridnour, Pierce, KG would all leave. Thats nearly 40m off the books.

Looked at the 2015 free agency class because I am bored and thought it would be fun to look into the future (we hope).
Rondo, Bradley, W.Chandler/Gay, Love, Hibbert/Asik/M.Gasol/D.Jordan

sign me up.

Dude it would be awesome to have love. Rebounding, Scoring, KG could turn him into a good defender. Yess.
Imagine if they go to either love or kg in the post, and they get doubled just kick out for open threes lmao.

How do we know that would happen though, is Pogue legit?

Nothing concrete as always with these things but he is a respected poster and valuable member of the board, just sharing some hearsay, take it for what it's worth, but pogue is definitely not trolling

great deal, thanks for the intel Pogue, this has been a lot of fun :D

I know there are no guarantees, but lets hope we have a happy ending - as mentioned it will be hard waiting till January 15th! :o

Well there are two ways for the Celtics this year: To play like they do now and fail in the playoffs or even miss the playoffs to get a high draft pick and pick up K-Mart from the free agent pool. Or they are trading now for a big, which would lead to another decent playoff year, etc. and probably do a rebuilt when KG leaves in two seasons or something.

What do you prefer? I think both ways are good. Oh and, why not giving the Love trade a chance.. I'd better try trading for him rather than seeing him getting traded to another contender in the league.

Just give it a try lol.

You can't argue with what he's saying. Much like ddb, he's a respected poster who's been on here for a while, and wouldn't play with us like that. Even if his source ends up being wrong, which is probably very likely, he is just sharing what he's heard.

Thanks for the Intel Pogue, I could definitely see it happening though I don't want to get too excited.

Yeah, appreciate the info Pogue. I've just been a reader for a long time (as you can tell by my post count to join date ratio), but this one got me excited. A lot can change by mid January though so who knows really. I wonder if this is more of the Celtics and Wolves sniffing around the deal or if its being seriously considered and hashed out. I'd be interested to hear BfB weigh in on this one.

The main knocks I'd have on Love are that he doesn't defend particularly well and he has been pretty inefficient, shooting just 45% for his career. His 3 pt attempts have increased from around 2 to 5 per game. I'd like to see him work more inside, although this may partially be because of the emergence of Pek who works pretty much exclusively inside. This being said, I'd still love to get him. If you have a shot at a star, you take it.

Lebron at PF and Bosh at C... That's the money lineup for the Heat. If you have Love/KG up front what are your matchups? And then you only have Pierce to guard Bron when he's playing his natural SF position. Not saying this couldn't be overcome on the other end or that I am dead set against it but it's a definite cconcern.

Whether this turns out or not, it's given me a reason to dream. Plus, I'm giving me props for guessing what Pogue was on about first.

*pats self on back*

Erm...yeah, I took a bet each way on the Ridnour/Barea thing, but close enough. I'm actually happier if it's Ridnour than Barea for the role we need.
And a chance to get a prime all-star talent without giving up Rondo, or having to do anything with KG/Pierce (who deserve to stay Celts unless they want to leave) is way better than I could hope for.

To be clear, I'm still doubting this gets done, but that's not a knock on Pogue or whatever...just that a lot of deals fall through at the last...it at least strikes me as possible and realistic.

U develop your own style and own gameplan and make the Heat adjust to you. I could never figure out why Boston is trying to copy Miami. There s one major issue with this...WE DON'T HAVE LEBRON JAMES!!! Love is the rebounder we need, gives us a stretch 4 who is unselfish and plays well in the halfcourt. Luke r is the true backup pg we so desperately need, plus he can shoot. D Williams is the wild card..gives Doc a hybrid forward with upside..
