It comes across as very catty to me. Her first response to Frank suggesting Rondo will be traded? "I hope so" She then follows up with nobody believing her.

I respect Jackie and like everything she does, but folks seem to be giving her a pass simply because of her prior work. Why can't we question what she actually knows? She has admittedly taken a step back over the years to watch her kids grow up and I haven't read or listed to anything recently to suggest she is still as tuned in to the org.

This comment isn't something that you mention during a commercial break, but one that ESPN would be bashing us over the heads with on air/online

I did. Quite a few times. And to say she's a "hot mess" in this video would be severely understating it. First off, she's pretty unhinged through the whole thing, fair to say someone said something to piss her off as she launches into this, probably the 10,000th mention of Rondo trade talk that sets her off. Then she states emphatically that Boston is definitely moving him only to counter her own assertion with every reason they can't/won't afterwards. So that's not highly compelling, more like water cooler talk.

This is more media fodder during the dead season and sure Jackie is a fine sportswriter with many professional ties but this doesn't come off any different than had someone on RealGM said it.

I believe Andy mentioned something like this earlier in the thread. Boston plans to see as many reps possible of Rondo AND Smart at the 1 this season before they will be comfortable making a fully informed decision with how to proceed at that position. Rondo's value on the market isn't going to get too much higher as we approach the deadline regardless of how he plays, but it will never be as low as it is today and Danny is not simply going to give him away nor is Smart going to be given the keys to this franchise without proving one iota of his worth.

Maybe Rondo wants to be traded but it's not his call to make and at this point in time he doesn't have much leverage anyway. Odds are Smart is the point guard of the future and Rondo gets traded during the season but the smaller chance is there that Smart doesn't show enough promise to establish the necessary trust, something else comes to fruition on the trade market and the next thing you know, Rondo is signed to an extension. Much wilder things have happened.

In other words, this is just the vultures getting closer and closer to the prey they've been circling for years and are getting antsy that it isn't dead yet. Sexy story but a lot more bark than bite, per usual, on this topic.

yeah I find that very interesting that ESPN wouldn't report on this rumor from one of their famed columnist. Something is amiss about this to me. But in dead months something like this would get traction regardless of its veracity.

Not sure if the rumor is true or not but I figured that Rondo would not want to hang around unless Ainge made some moves this offseason. In a similar situation Pierce wanted out as well, luckily Ainge pulled of the KG/Allen move there. Drafting a PG and continuing to have an inability to keep any trade rumor in house has not helped Ainge. Unfortunately there are only so many teams that need a PG and far fewer that Rondo will consider long term heading into FA. Ainge will be lucky to get 10 cents on the dollar at this point.

Wait, are people seriously proposing trades involving Dragic AND Len? It makes no sense, considering Dragic is the better player between the two.

Kings just traded Terry for Gee and some picks freeing up a little bit of cap room. Not sure if one has to do with the other.

Doubt it. The old lady is talking **** and hoping it sticks IMO. If it happens she is crowned the female Woj and if it doesn't nobody will remember.

Wyc would never let Rondo dump ice on his head if he asked out.

It's interesting bc it was a deal between the two most notorious Rondo suitors.. Kings gave up two seconds, just trying to get under the luxury tax line.. Houston got a single player who can still contribute a little or get dealt later in the year.. You could argue either team is better set up for a deal now..

No idea on the validity of all this so I don't have much to add to the discussion in regards to that aspect.

But just looking at the prospect of Rondo asking out as a hypothetical situation, it certainly makes things much easier for Ainge (in theory) if he knows what to do one way or the other early. Rather than having to wait until next off season and having to massively overpay to keep him when he gets on the open market he can then just make that someone elses problem to worry about. I also have significant doubts as to whether Rondo is worth a significant long term investment. I used to be a pretty big Rondo guy but the last couple of years really has me doubting whether he is worth the trouble at the sort of money he is apparently after.

The only issue then becomes timing. Does Ainge try and do it in the next month to start training camp fresh? Or does he wait until a month or two into the season to try and build his value? The risk there obviously is that the Rondo we saw last season is who he is now, not the Rondo from 2012, and if that is the case then it might actually hurt his trade value letting him start the season in green.

ESPN is very reputable. And they have yet to substantiate this Rumor.
They wouldn't have gone this long, without reporting it. She's on her own.

Odds of Houston being involved go way down unless they want to make major changes to their rotation pieces.

Sacramento deal options become one of their potential power forwards and one of the young SG and whatever picks. I guess slightly easier to happen in that they can give a bit of cap relief after waiving those guys.

Sacramento was just a hair over the tax line so needed to make a move regardless of anything else and there it was. Poor planning by these teams like SAC and Cleveland, they couldn't have landed Collison with 200k less?

Murphy says that Rondo's agent Duffy has denied this, but they kind of had to say that either way, imo.

Jackie Mac has been a bit off her rocker the last couple of years. Hate to say that, but that's my impression.

I think she's just become a victim of the ESPN machine, which basically make you a lazy reporter. She does all of her work from home and she writes columns. I have no doubt she was great in the past, but as she has grown, she is not truly a "journalist" anymore. Nothing wrong with that and I still like reading/listening to her, but I really don't think she is that invested. That being said, there really isn't anything new here. Every Cs fan has speculated about Rondo being traded, whether it is Ainge's idea or the fact Rondo will not want to be part of a rebuilding team.

If Ainge does pull the trigger hopefully we get a player that fills a need.

We don't need anymore SGs or PFs on this team.
