This year? His shooting is embarrassing, and he doesn't listen to Brad Stevens. Guy is a supreme passer, but I don't think he plays hard and really embraced his teammates.

What did Celtics need from Rondo?

Post Big 13 -- 16 ppg, 10-11 assists and great defense on decent shooting. They go 8 ppg, ridiculous, inconsistency and he couldn't play late in the game because he couldn't hit a free throw.

This. Big time.

I have always been a Rondo guy but the last two seasons have been painful. He had the chance to come out and truly show how good he was in the point guard pecking order and either wouldn't or couldn't do it.

I imagine Stevens might not be super disappointed either.

We're in the age of PGs, almost every team has a good one.

The best part about this trade will be the extra losses we accrue giving us a higher chance to win the lottery.

We started rebuilding last year, and we're not going to stop for at least a few more years.

The worst thing that could of come from the Rondo situation was reuping him for 5 more years at a near max contract as he continues to regress and kill this franchise.

Let the new era begin.

Soon to be free agent Jrue Holiday got a lottery pick ... Rondo couldn't even get a top 20 pick

To be fair, that was before the season started with a Sixers team that is tanking in a way NO ONE has ever seen or dared do before. And that pick was suppose to be in the mid twenties as the team was looking to make the playoffs that season, and that's why they made the trade to help their superstar Brow.

The equivalent for this happening for us would be for Rondo to get hurt for the rest of the season for the Mavs along with Dirk and we get lucky in the lottery with their pick.

Lots of extreme outliers in that case that lead to the end result.

I'm actually okay with trading him because we had no choice.............however, I fully blame Ainge for not being able to get any other STUDS to pair up with Rondo. That's why we had to trade him.............the rest of the roster sucks ass and there's no point in paying him to stick around. Ainge doesn't have a plan........I am convinced now more than ever. He is winging it year to year.

lol, no. Just no.

No? How am I wrong? Rondo will be a force in the playoffs especially with THAT team. Great shooters plus a defensive force in Chandler. And, Ainge? Yes, that's correct, he simply wings it year to effin year. He has no concrete plan. He wants to tank now but yet he resigned Bradley's atrocious ass in the offseason. For what? The kid stinks. He doesn't know what he is doing.

You're right about Rondo. Completely wrong about Ainge. Fair enough? Fair enough.

Yeah, fire him. He only gave you Rondo in the first place, a title, and now 10 first round picks to rebuild your franchise.

Yeah, he's some kind of joke.

Haha

Nailed it. Thank you.

This might show how valuable future first round picks are becoming.

If Smart isn't **** starting immediately upon his return, Brad needs to go as well. We got rid of our all star PG now there is no excuse whatsoever for Smart to be benched/not get the minutes he deserves.

Or how little value point guards have around the league in general

am I missing something? picks don't count towards the numbers in a trade and the deal as we have heard it to be doesn't work on the checker.

So many pointless picks at our Arsenal. Let's hope we strike gold with one of them though.

I don't think this has ever been an issue?! Smart took Pressey's spot immediately as backup point guard and started for us throughout pre-season with Turner slotting in every now and then. The only reason Smart was slow to get regular minutes in the rotation again was because his ankle injury was pretty severe. Seeing as he is already injured again, I'd say it was a good precaution to take.

obviously, bad trade, but moving on...

can Wright do anything for us. I mean, does he at least in some capacity fill that role that we so desperately need as a rim protector and defender in the middle. I just dont know that much about him, but sounds like he was the first big man off the bench in dallas.

this doesnt shock me -- i think danny initially wanted to rebuild around rondo, but i think now he realizes that it wasnt happening right away and that rondo does not want to be part of a rebuilding process and will leave so he had to move him.

call me crazy but i still think this team can make the playoffs.

Honestly what would be the point?

Is his contract stopping us from signing someone? Might as well keep him for an expiring player, a Theo Ratliff, to add 4-5 first rounders. We have a trade exception this year that fills that role, and Gerald Wallace is a living embodiment of that exception next year.

It's also not over rated to mention that Mike was on the Toucher and Rich show just today saying in response to veteran presence in the locker room Gerald Wallace is the only one that calls out the young kids when they don't play 100% and you need players like that as a coach. Making Wallace essentially a Brian Scalarbine.

The NBA draft will always be a total crap shoot. Hopefully one of those first rounders pans out, but there's a better chance of a first rounder being a bust than a rotation player.

... and how great will Rondo be in dallas? I'm sad for us, but happy for rondo. what a great situation for him. He will retake his spot as an elite top 3 Point Guard in this league now that he has someone to pass to.

Rondo was clearly not a good fit on this team as constructed. It's not like he was Curry who can put up 30 points in the blink of an eye. The reality is Rondo was surrounded by bench players and he needs good players around him to succeed.

What would have scared me more than than this trade was offering the max to rondo.

Dallas is a great situation for Rondo. A Center that can roll and dunk. 2 lights out shooters (Dirk, Parsons) and a scorer that can create (Ellis).

Smart needs to start and play. Rookie of the year candidate now. Especially with Parker out. Still well behind Wiggins but a darkhorse nonetheless

yeah max contract and Max years would have doomed us much more than this.

We have enough picks to chose another whole team......

This was about Rondo wanting a MAX contract and management not wanting to pay it....

Rondo could have signed a reasonable contract last summer... He didn't....so he in essense sealed his own fate.....

Time for Celtic fans to move on from the Big Three era once and for all....

Return to Boston Celtics
