Re: OT: Art, Music, Literature, Media, and More! Part 1
I'm late to the party here, but wanted to add two cents.
I have become a big fan of podcasts. I listened to all of Serial and am now loving Undisclosed, which is basically a continuation of the investigation. Wondering if anyone else listens or listened to it. Another non-sports pod is "I Am Rapaport" from Michael Rapaport. Really funny, just him and his friend hanging out talking about relevant topics. He really interacts with his fans, has sent me and my wife a shirt from the show, very cool.
Sports pods- NBA lockdown, LowePost, Bomani Jones, Men In Blazers, Arsecast (arsenal podcast), and obviously Jalen and Jacoby.
Let me know what else I am missing if you have any suggestions.

Only one I listen to is Joe Rogen. Funny as a bastard and a lot smarter than I would have expected.

For a non-sports pod, Gavin McInnes' Free Speech podcasts are worth a listen. Profane, eclectic, offensive, provocative, entertaining - a cornucopia of Gen X anarchy.

Didn't like it at first but then really got into it after awhile, was Pete Holmes' podcast. Mainly interviews comedians, has a funny, very open style where tons of comics go and talk tons of BS. Also he's a local guy so that's cool.

Been a huge fan of Jorge Bucay lately.. Especially enjoyed "To love one self with open eyes", any1 else that has read Bucay here? Guy's a total genius...
Good assessment:

Good suggestion, thanks. Always looking for some mellow stuff that is still good that is suitable for office/work. Almost like a more mellow, less wacko modest mouse to me so far, which I like.
I'm far from a music connoisseur so it has been fun to (slowly) go through the stuff in this thread. Good thread start on here truth.

Inside Out comes out today! Anyone here a big fan of Pixar movies? Looks like they are finally "back" with this movie. Cars 2 and Brave were such disappointments.

Saw Jurassic World last night and loved it. Best movie I've seen this year (which isn't many). Thought it did a good job paying homage to the original and it didn't take long for the plot to start developing / for the movie to grab your attention.
Side note: in the original jurassic park they had to actually build the giant T-rex and now I assume they just CGI it all. It's amazing how far technology has come.

I went in with low expectations and was still disappointed. I loved the idea of a reboot with an actual functioning dino theme park - a chance to deliver on the original movie's concept on a bigger scale as opposed to the way the other sequels abandoned the park conceit.
But the closer parallels to the original concept only highlighted how much dumber this next generation of filmmakers has become. John Hammond was a fascinating and multi-faceted character; Simon Masrani felt like a half-completed sketch of what might have been an interesting character. Dennis Nedry was pretty one-note, but his motivations were totally plausible, creatively conceived and elegantly executed to set the disaster in motion; Vic Hoskins and the gene splicing angle were third-rate comic book devices. Hoskins in particular was totally preposterous, the kind of nonsensical villain you'd expect from Sharknado 5. The kids from Jurassic Park were annoying but natural, vulnerable and totally convincing - their wonder and terror were palpable; the Jonas brother stand-ins in this one were cardboard and forgettable afterthoughts. Howard and Pratt's character tried to squeeze out some charm, but their characters felt so slapped together and lazy; just a huge gulf in the depth and seriousness of their characters compared to the original's leads.
And that's just the characters. The original was a masterpiece of suspense - not one scene from Jurassic World had me on edge after the Indominus Rex escapes. Not saying there weren't some great FX scenes and some fun moments, but Jurassic Park is first and foremost a thriller/horror brand and the original delivered in spades.

I'm with you Slart. You'll see in my previous posts that I wasnt a fan. The FX were amazing, but if you want FX with character development, go see Mad Max. If you want FX with massive amounts of plot holes and one dimensional characters, JW is a good fit.
I did enjoy mindless popcorn entertainment with a solid performance from Prat and an over the top performance from D'Onofrio. However, I wouldn't give it a glowing review. 3 out of 5. You could do worse for a Summer blockbuster.

The writing was just bad. I'm sure it will have its crowd who goes completely against how I feel. I'm not your typical Summer Movie fan. I'm more into dramas, indies, foreign, horror, etc. Wham and bang action movies never do it for me, but I still go see them to check the box. If that's your thing, you'll probably enjoy it. It takes a dump on the likes of recent Transformer movies and stuff like that.
Ps...Vinny D can do no wrong in my eyes.

I spent almost ten years doing genetics research before changing careers, and most movies' handling of the technical parts is so comical.
Haven't seen the new Jurassic but Mad Max was legit. One of the better ones I've seen in a long time.

Dark-Saw "Inside Out" yesterday and it was pretty incredible. The writing absolutely blew me away. I was afraid that it was too deep for my daughter but there was just enough balance to keep the little ones entertained. This is right up there with all the Pixar classics.

Still nothing from Karl Lithgow. Not a word. Strange.

Sounds like you're definitely more lifted than I, lmao.
Read any of Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller series?
No, but a friend recently finished The Name of the Wind and had harsh criticism. This guy doesn't have a great understanding of writing, but he's intelligent, an avid reader of high quality stuff, and a bigger fantasy fan than I (prefer scifi). I was shocked as almost everyone who has recommended the series to me has excellent taste and literary understanding. Perhaps he missed something. I should really check it out now that I have a ton of free time. You enjoyed the whole series?
Anyone here watch the show Orphan Black? Cool BBC show about clones. Finale was wild last Saturday.
Also, just finished the War of the Roses (about the Plantagenets and Tudors, etc). Great, quick read.

Orphan Black is sick. Love me some Tatiana Maslany. Show is awesome. She makes it even better.
You into any horror? Was a big fan of Richard Laymon, Jack Ketchum, Lincoln Child, Anne Rice, King (obvious), Barker, etc.
