For the fire brad guys, Popovich had the worst coaching decision of the night. Why do you challenge on the Timelord alleyoop? Sure he wasnt fouled but there were like 30 seconds left... the mathematical expectation of two Timelord free throws is 1 point for the Cs. Instead you challenge, knowing the best outcome is a jump ball between Poetl and Timelord and Jaylen drills his three and more time ticks off the clock.

Just take your chances with Timelord freethrows and save the time on the clock. Im like "do you really want timelord to jump it up and just let the celtics reset their whole offense instead of having our worst free throw shooting trying a pair with the clock stopped?"

It was an emotional decision of "hey that wasnt a foul!" But totally illogical (unless you really think Poetl can beat Rob to a jump ball... I dont).

Good point.

Maybe Pop was thinking that if call was overturned it would be a turnover instead of jump ball? Or even if it was jump ball he knew jump ball is 50/50 that his team wins which still might be better than sending time lord to the line.

I don't think that was the play that decided the game.

If Pop is 2nd guessing himself, it's nothing in the last 3 mins of regulation or OT....it's how the F did my team go from up 32 to tie game with 3 mins left?
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Do not compare him with the #3/4 Celtic of all time until at least 5-6 years from now.

I agree that it's too early to compare, but Pierce himself said that Tatum will surpass him eventually because he's more talented, and it's already apparent. The only things that Pierce have over Tatum right now is his longevity and toughness, and of course a title. As it stands, Tatum seems to be a better scorer and potentially a better defender, and he is just as clutch as the Truth and is on his way to building his legend in Boston.

Not a knock on Pierce at all, he's the 3rd greatest Celtic ever. But what Tatum is doing at 19 years of age all but points to him supplanting him in that top 3 pantheon of Celtics greats, if he ever spends his entire career in Boston.

EDIT: Forgot about Havlicek, who really should be considered the 3rd greatest Celtic of all time. Sorry, Truth

I VERY much look forward to JT supplanting Paul in the top 3/4 pantheon of Celtic greats.
Let’s talk 5-7 years from now! :D

8 games to go.

This is a very dangerous Celtics team.
Very talented but lacking in basketball IQ.

But if the Celts get hot in the playoffs, it could be another east finals.

Or the Celts could crash and burn in the 1st round.

Marcus Smart played smart basketball in this game.
He didn't try to do too much.

Hopefully Smart will be like this in the playoffs.

I'm a big Paul Pierce fan, but you can see the trajectory of Jayson Tatum's career.

Only way Tatum doesn't surpass Pierce is if the NBA ceases to exist, for whatever reason.

There's just no stopping the Jayson Tatum train.

Jayson Tatum is on a collision course with greatness.

There were quite a few, that I know of, that had Jonathan Isaac higher on the draft board than Jayson Tatum.

Isaacs is a pretty talented guy though, it’s not like the analysts could’ve predicted his health problems.

Tatum has more natural talent then Pierce, but Pierce had a warriors heart, time will tell if Tatum does as well.

Tatum is already better than Pierce in his prime. That’s saying a lot.

when we win it all this year watch horford ring chase and come to us when he's bought out next season.

I wouldn't mind that at all. Big Al coming back will be worth it because of Anna alone

What we’ve seen since the all star break is Tatum just has a gear that only 6-7 other players in the league can hit.

Dude is averaging 28/8/5 on a 61% TS in 26 games since the all star break. And it’s not like he’s on some unsustainable burner shooting the ball or anything, his splits are 48/41/88, just slightly above his career numbers.

His upside is scary high. He’s not going to be in his age 25 season until 2023-2024, think about that.

Actually, Rob is a 65% FT shooter. So 2 makes on a pair of FTs is almost as likely as 1 make.

Further, the Celtics had perfect 2-for-1 timing if the FT attempts stood, which they quite predictably lost after the jump ball.
Banned temporarily for, among other sins, being "Extremely Deviant".

You can say that about any decent playoff team. The Celtics have show zero ability to play good basketball for even 3 quarters a game for a few games in a row even. I'd like to believe it but the defense has been bad to mediocre the whole season. Maybe they can catch some weird no back to backs lightning in a bottle but I've seen no evidence.

A 38% usage with 0 turnovers in over 40 minutes is impressive in itself. Never mind the 60 and his defense, Scal was in awe in the postgame.
