17 Kyle Filipowski
22 Tristan Da Silva

What do you like about Kyle that puts him over Da Silva?

Filipowski is over 2 yrs younger. And overall I think he's better and more versatile, on both ends of the floor.

Da Silva is a better shooter but Flip does everything else better imo..and with the difference in age, Flip could end up closing the shooting gap over time.

Da Silva is average at best defensively imo. And he's somewhat limited on offense (besides the outside shooting). Flip can really handle the ball for a big, he's got a bag of moves off the dribble, he's got spin moves, up and unders, etc. He can post up, operate frm the elbows, has better playmaking.

And I think Flip is a slightly better, more versatile defender.

Both good prospects, and only separated by a few spots..

Thanks. I was thinking D was the edge to Da Silva, so that’s why I was favoring him. I’ll have to look at that. And even with less bag, I got the feel that Da Silva would be quicker connector type. Which, at our position is all I’m looking for. Maximize role player traits. Don’t really need them to do too much, tbh.

Yeah the list I posted wasn't ranking them in terms of their fit with the celtics. It is just an overall ranking of them as prospects.

I don't really think we have much of a chance at getting either of them..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Cool thing for Celtics fans, being in the NBA Finals, and by the time it finishes there will only be a two weeks until the draft and about 3 weeks until free agency. No big lulls in the action.

Updated list of guys the Celtics have had in for a pre-draft workout:

Baylor Scheierman, Creighton...wing
Coleman Hawkins, Illinois...PF/C
Anton Watson, Gonzaga...PF/small ball 5
Jonathan Mogbo, San Francisco...small ball 5
Nique Clifford, Colorado State...wing
Tristen Newton, UConn...PG
Harrison Ingram, North Carolina...SF/PF
Dillon Jones, Weber State...SF/PF
Blake Hinson, Pitt...SF/PF
Payton Sandfort, Iowa...wing
Armel Traoré, ADA Blois Basket (France)...PF/small ball 5
Jaylin Williams, Auburn...PF/small ball 5
Jaelen House, New Mexico...combo guard
Chris Ledlum, St. John’s (N.Y.)...wing
Anthony Dell’Orso, Campbell...wing
JT Toppin, New Mexico...PF/C

*Toppin has since withdrawn from the draft and will play another year of college ball. Some others on the list may withdraw today (it's the deadline for guys to withdraw and maintain their college eligibility)

*House is the son of Eddie House. I don't really see him as a legit NBA prospect (could be wrong, of course) so I think that was moreso a favor the team did for Eddie by bringing in his kid..

*We also worked out Hawkins last year. There must be some level of interest there.

*I think pretty much every guy on this list is age 22 or 23, except Toppin (withdrew from draft) and Traore (he's 21). Lots of guys here who are 23 (Scheierman, Watson, etc.) and even some who are 24 (Hinson).

Edit: I ranked them roughly in order of where they are on my big board (Toppin is last since he withdrew..)

Traore is interesting. The thing with him that stands out is that he plays with a toughness, an edge.

Some people have said (especially since we traded Smart) that the thing that this celtics team is missing is guys with a toughness/edge to them. People say we don't hold up well vs physicality. Traore could potentially fill that gap.

He always looks pretty intense and serious.

Like, this basket is only 2 minutes into the game..and it's not even a playoff game..this game was in mid-December. But look how pumped he is after dunking it. It's pretty cool.

Nice rotation here defensively and weak side blocked shot..

The other thing with Traore of course is that he could possibly be stashed since he's a foreign player. That way he doesn't take up a roster spot - you can stash him overseas till he's ready.

Outside shooting is a weakness, but the C's have been good at improving guys' shooting..if they think they can help Traore become a better shooter, I would definitely throw a 2nd round pick at him..

It does seem like most of those guys are in the 54/UDFA range, with a few possible exceptions. Long time til the draft still, but nobody really looks like a pick 30 yet.

Yeah, I think any international guy who goes in the 2nd round, it's a possibility..

Yeah I think he was actually doing his first workout in Boston lol.

Though this team currently has so few roster spots available. I've been assuming they draft a guy they can put on a two way but if there is some athletic project to just stash that would make a lot of sense too.

Still think Ingram makes a ton of sense, totally fits what Brad likes. Plus it gives them this core of guys they are developing - Davison (maybe), Springer, Ingram+Walsh, Queta. No one is really stepping on each others toes.

C'mon, you should know by now that the C's front office/scouts read this board lol.

Scheierman could be a pick 30 type of guy..especially if Brad doesn't think he'll be able to sign Hauser long term.

But I also think we probably trade pick 30..

Well, I'm no pattern recognition specialist, but it sure looks like they are really focused on wings. I'm glad. That's where I'd be focused, too.

Thanks for sharing this list.

No.

I watched some recent games of his, because his team was playing against Zaccharie Risacher's team in the playoffs and Risacher is a projected top 5 pick so I was checking him out..

Begarin looked ok. The 3 pt shot is still hit or miss. He still has some issues with turnovers. The defense is good but definitely not elite.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of him eventually coming over, but I highly doubt it happens next season.

Thanks for this contribution, Hal. Nice work as always. I hope we get to see some of the workout video at some point.

To the line I bolded, this fits into my theory that Brad may break the trend of drafting underclassman and stashing in Maine or oversees and instead go for a 3 or 4 year college player that can step in right away.

Hard to say from the list whether that means trading up, trading back, or even trading out. My guess is that if Brad thinks there will be a player or two that he likes and will be available in the second round, he'll trade back (as he did last year) but pick up a more experienced player with one of two second round picks this time (instead of a "youngster" like Walsh/Begarin/Davison), and the other is for stash/potential. So, Watson and Traoré, for example.

Scheierman is intriguing, I'll check out more. I recall we liked the idea of trying to pry Kispert from Washington before the deadline. From the little I've seen, Scheierman could be that headband wearing offensive shooter guy that can step in and be like a higher alpha Hauser. I'm making a very superficial take, of course, but he's high on your list, the Celtics brought him in, and he could be there at 30 (maybe not 54). He can shoot, and makes some nifty passes. Looks a tad slow and ground-bound from the eye test (as does Luka at times!). But if the Celtics brings him in for workouts they can gather the info they need.

I wonder what the average "expiration date" is on these type of stashes. After 2 or 3 years, a lot has changed with most NBA teams. New roster construction, new coach, maybe new GM. For the player, after 2 summer leagues I think they'd want to know -- should I stay or should I go?

There's nothing to lose by just keeping Begarin (and Madar) stashed overseas. Some guys have been "stashed" for their entire career and kept on playing overseas till they were like 40.

There's even one guy where an NBA team technically still has his draft rights even though he retired from playing pro ball like 7 years ago haha.

Meanwhile, there's been a few international guys over the past couple of years who made their NBA debut between age 25-29 (Duop Reath, Simone Fontecchio, Vasilije Micic, Sasha Vevenzov, Jack White) so there's still plenty of time for Begarin and Madar who are only like 21/22 yrs old..

Yeah, acc to the trade checker, Celtics still have rights to Josip Sesar (46) and Ben Pepper (48). Plenty of time for young Juhann, but those guys essentially expired years ago.

It seems like with the flourishing French connection lately, Begarin may indeed have his day in the NBA, perhaps with the C's or with another team.

Madar, though, if I was to make a wager, I'd bet he'll never be a Boston Celtic. That ship has likely sailed.
