If I were them I'd do it, 100%.

They're going to have to break it up anyway. That team can't win a championship. If you're going to break it up, why not for a superstar who you've got at least a shot of convincing to stay?

The writer, Tim Bontemps, is basically a good guy. But he's far from perfect. E.g., the same article says that Isaiah Thomas has already worn out his welcome in Phoenix once, which doesn't feel like an accurate take to me.

Are you joking? Bontemps is **** awful. He killed Ainge for not trading Rozier and picks for Serge Ibaka, then he killed Ainge for trading down to get Tatum, then he killed Ainge for trading for Kyrie. He either hates the Celtics or is just completely clueless, and probably both.

Both.

Kawhi is not staying in Toronto. No shot - all of the parties involved will know that Kawhi will leave the in the summer of 2019

They're one team that can afford to risk it. Like I said: at worst, they get out from under DeRozan's contract. It's not like DeRozan has all that much trade value anyway.

Do I think it would be a smart move? Not necessarily, but at least they would ultimately open up some cap space.

The Spurs aren't doing a deal with Toronto, though, so this is all moot.

I think legit Kawhi WILL end up in Toronto and I love it. Here's a few reasons.

1- When Ujiri got the GM job in Toronto he wanted to tear the team down remember? He traded with Sacramento and surprise surprise, players like Pat Patterson emerged, Greivis Vasquez had a good year, even John Salmons played good for them.

2- He then believed in this fools gold team and continued to pull off trades, traded Vasquez for a 2nd round pick (Norman Powell), he sent Salmons to ATL for Lou Williams who won 6th man of the year before going to LA.

3- Trades TRoss and Clips 1st for Ibaka, year before that Biyombo played a huge role in their playoff run but they couldn't keep him because no bird rights.

4- Why I believe he will trade for Kawhi? He knows if Kawhi bolts in a year he won't cry to sleep over losing either Derozan, Lowry or Valanciunas cause they're stuck in no mans land with either one. If Kawhi stays great, they can Build around him if he's gone they can fully commit to a rebuild. Something he was in favor of When he first got to Toronto.

The Raptors trading for a Kawhi rental only makes sense if they don't trade any picks.

Looks like the celtics have moved on from pursuing Kawhi Leonard. The only signing is Aaron Baynes. Unreal. Oh well.

It's almost like you don't comprehend the simple fact that the Boston Celtics, as currently constructed, don't need to make a single move to contend for a title.

You want them to make moves for the sake of making moves.

Yeah it' so "unreal" that a team that was one game away from the finals without its two best players would feel the need to stand pat when they are getting those two players back next year instead of selling the farm for a potential rental.

How "unreal."

"Kawhi Leonard is now super max eligible (third year anniversary of the contract signed on July 16, 2015) to receive a five-year $221 million extension from the Spurs. If Leonard is traded, the most he could receive in an extension (six months after the trade) would be $108 million over four-years (starting in 2019-20). Leonard would be eligible to sign a five-year $190 million contract as a free agent with the team acquiring him or four-years $141 million with a team that has cap space. Leonard would not be super max eligible as a free agent with the new team acquiring him even if he earned All-NBA honors in 2018-19."

Pop apparently promised Kawhi another All-Star if he stayed. Rumor mill is buzzing that they are trying to acquire Kemba Walker. This is what I read from DROB27 off the GB, since I refuse to give Spurstalk any clicks.

Interesting. I could see the Spurs dealing away Murray if it meant Kawhi staying. Trade Murray and Danny Green's expiring deal (remember, he's a former Tar Heel) and a trade for Kemba would work. The risk here is that Kemba could walk at the end of the year. Nonetheless, if it convinces Kawhi to sign for the Supermax, it's something you have to do.

Cris carter acts as if he's an insider that knows Kawhi's state of mind. Most of the time he looks senile..must be CTE related.

If selling shoes is important to Kawhi I think Toronto would have some appeal to him. They have a rabid fan base and he would be right up there with Vince for best player in their history. I think his jersey and shoe sales would do excellent in Toronto. Factor in them being able to offer him 50 million more than anyone else next season and I think they would have a decent shot at keeping Kawhi if money is what matters most to him. It would be a great gamble for them as long as they don't give up picks in a Leonard deal.

Nah. Canada has a population of 36 million. Compare that to the US which has 325 million people. Canada doesn't move anywhere close to the number of sneakers that the US does.

Also, Nike is starting to figure out that you don't need to be in a big market to move shoes. KD and Westbrook got their deals in OKC. Paul George got his first sneaker while in Indiana, and of course, Kyrie got his deal in Cleveland (before Lebron came back). Nike is also releasing Giannis' signature shoe next year and he's in Milwaukee.

Playing in a big market doesn't hurt, but it also doesn't guarantee success. Lebron's shoe always sold better than Kobe's, and Melo's shoe sold poorly even though he played in New York.

I'm expecting him to be a Raptor come training camp. Cause if he stays and his situation isn't resolved (him extended) or traded the boos from SA fans might scare future FA to go to SA. They'd have all the right to do so, but their FO would like to avoid such a thing.

If he got traded though, once he goes back to play his first game he'd get booed off the court.
