Re: Trade Thread Tread pt.2 2023-24 - (Off-season)
Let me start this by saying that I am not a big fan of trading Brown at all. With that being said, if the Celtics brass feel they need to, to keep from having 2 max players at this time, I would consider something like this.
Jaylen Brown to Atlanta (pretty sure he would resign there)
Scotty Barns and OG Anunoby to Boston
John Collins, Seddiq Bey and the 15th pick to Toronto
Toronto reboots its team by putting Collins and Bey with Siakam, Poeltl, Achiuwa and VanVleet. Also get the 15th pick to add depth.
Boston avoids having 2 max players on the team for now, kicks that can down the road because Barnes is still on his rookie deal. Barnes can be paired with Tatum to replace Brown in the starting lineup, with OG coming off the bench as a good depth piece to give Tatum a rest.
Atlanta gets a real star in Brown to play alongside Trae
What would need to be added from either team to make it work, or is it good as is?

As long as smart is in the lineup, shooting will be awful. Then bring in siakam and timelord all together hahha. Good luck with that and joe’s 3-ball offense.

Sharpe and Number 3 for Browne works as a value trade for both Portland and Boston imo.
And Brown would be in the Western Conference.

I heard someone float Brown to Toronto for Barnes, OG, and #13. If Toronto would do that deal (doubtful), I'd do that in a heartbeat.
Then flip Pritchard + #13 to Orlando for #11 and snag Taylor Hendricks from UCF.

You probably couldn't get OG by himself for Brown.

Re: Trade Thread Tread pt.2 2023-24 - (Off-season)
Just wanted to cross-post my rant from reddit on the new CBA here:
I think people immediately shutting down any and all JB trade ideas aren’t aware of just how drastic the changes to the CBA are going to be. It’s like a completely different league moving forward and it may be impossible to build a team around two guys taking up 70% of the cap unless they’re SO good that the pieces around them don’t matter.
It’s the same reason that it’s more or a less a guarantee that one of the 3 guards (likely Brogdon) is going to be moved this summer, and probably for not much of a return. We HAVE to shed money soon.
I’m pretty disappointed in the NBAPA. They’re totally screwing over the middle class of the league and teams built the “right way” from the ground up and fans are going to be getting a lesser product. The days of keeping “cores” together for years (see GSW or us) is probably going away and we’re going to just see contenders shuffling rookie-scale and minimum salary guys around supermax guys year to year.
All of this to say that there is (unfortunately) value to exploring moving on from JB unless you TRULY believe that he and JT are good enough to win on their own. They’re never going to have a team as good as this past years around them, and that sucks. I just think the recipe for success under the new CBA is probably one supermax guy, an all-star caliber guy on a rookie contract, and then filling out around them with more space.
Anyway, sorry for the rant but this new CBA is ****. I highly recommend you guys read up or listen to some podcasts on it because it truly is changing the landscape of the league, and I’m not over-exaggerating.

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Dude, 100%! I'm so disappointed in the NBAPA. Talk about destroying what's been so good about the league for so long. You're right. The "middle class" is gone. The changes to the CBA are making the league more "Cali" then "Florida" and that's NOT a good thing for the product. It's good for the really good players and THAT'S IT.
Unfortunately, because of this reality, Brad Stevens will have to trade JB this summer or next summer. It'll likely be next summer regardless of whether or not they win the title.
The most likely scenario remains JB signs a supermax contract with Boston. Once he inks that new deal, he cannot be traded for 1 season. I'm fairly certain the new deal kicks in once the 24-25 NBA calendar begins. So technically, it doesn't really impact Boston in 23-24. Is that right?

By the way.....A random thought came to mind yesterday. If Harden leaves Philly for Houston....Is there a chance Philly pivots and suddenly becomes a seller? Is it possible Philly could look to deal Embiid to the highest bidder? Portland, NYK, NOP?

You might be right. But do we really have many (or even any) examples of where a team said player X is off limits, and then traded that player?
I can't think of any off the top of my head. I just know pelicans said ingram was off limits and raptors said barnes was off limits with regards to KD trades. And neither Ingram nor Barnes got traded..
Quotes like these might be trying to beef up their assets. But they might also be teams saying to not bother wasting time calling about certain players cause it's not gonna happen.

There's truth to this but Boston is actually in good shape compared to other contenders. Boston could dump Brogdon for a cheap asset, re-sign Grant Williams, and easily duck the luxury tax this year. So, they're not in real bad shape. The issues don't come until it's time to supermax Tatum. Brown is on a good salary this coming year so there's no rush to trade him. After a year it becomes a good conversation to have. Why would Brown agree to extend with another team this year when he can just wait a year and go wherever he wants for the same money? If he doesn't agree to extend, Boston is losing major value. The trade Brown now talk is illogical. With Brown, Boston is probably a co-favorite to win it all next year AND they can duck the tax. So what are we talking about here?

I have no clue what Atlanta is doing but I like a deal centered around Brogdon plus for John Collins. Celtics have to do something in the front court and Collins would provide much needed depth with Horford, R Williams, Collins and Gallo or G Williams.
This opens up even more minutes for Derrick White which in my opinion has to happen. Gives an opportunity for Pritchard or Davison also for a backup spot.
