Got to take a second to appreciate the position we're in before jumping into analysis/debate mode.

On Monday we won a game 7, yesterday we won the lottery, and tonight we host game 1 of the ECF. That is pretty incredible, and we are in the midst of an unbelievable stretch. From a Washington Post article:

— Between advancing to the Eastern Conference finals and winning the top pick in next month’s draft, it’s been a pretty good 24 hours for the Boston Celtics.

Now, no matter how Boston fares against the Cleveland Cavaliers over the next week or two, the Celtics have arguably the brightest future in the league. They’ll have the top pick in this year’s draft, which they’ll likely use to draft Washington star Markelle Fultz, as well as oodles of cap space to chase a potential star free agent this summer like Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward.

The Celtics will then still have the Brooklyn Nets’ unprotected first round pick next season, giving them further potential trade ammunition — or just the ability to add another young piece to go with Jaylen Brown, last year’s No. 3 overall pick, and the top pick in this year’s draft.

Not bad for a team that’s still one of the four left playing in the NBA playoffs.

For all the complaining that is done on here I think it's worth taking a second to remember how good a position we are in.

What other team would offer better value for Butler/George? Note that Billy King is no longer a GM. Fultz+ for such a short term win now move during the Lebron window is laughable.

Ok -- now on to the debate :)

For me it's pretty simple: unless someone blows our doors off with a major offer (i.e. Towns, Giannis, Anthony Davis), I think we just make the easy decision to take Fultz. For a while it has been my opinion that there is a clear #1 and then a group of guys between #2-6 you could make a case for. And by the way, some of those guys are pretty damn good. So when there is a guy who is better than all of those guys, a guy who can score, shoot, dribble, pass, defend, with great size and length for his position.... you **** take him.

I don't do a PG or Butler deal for Fultz, sorry. Both guys are one level below superstar and not likely to ever make the jump above at this point and Fultz has the potential to get there, for cheaper, and under our control for 9+ years. PG is a 1 year rental and then we have to worry he'll run to LA. Pass. Butler would be a worse fit in our system that PG in my opinion and we'd have him for 2 years before he opts out. Seems awfully high risk, and we'd have to win the title in the next two years to justify those trades. Not a bet I'd take.

1 Celtics

Jayson Tatum, SF, Duke: One NBA general manager compared Tatum to Ron Artest (when Artest was good), and to me, that's the type of piece that could immediately vault Boston into a championship contender. Though it wouldn't surprise me if the Celtics swing some sort of trade with this pick to pick up an established NBA star (Jimmy Butler?).

What a terrible comparison.

What a terrible idea.

Can't wait for everyone to pretend they didn't want to give up Brown and Fultz for Butler when those two are starting for us in the Finals.

Multiple finals!

Another thing -- the last two days have to improve our chances with Hayward. If we can sign him without giving up any assets, then why go for Butler or PG in the first place? I'd rather look to trade Crowder and one of our guards to get another big from someone than give up Fultz for more SFs.

The big thing to watch for Hayward is tomorrow. If he doesn't make an All-NBA team, the chances of him leaving as a FA are much higher. Much higher.

Would anybody entertain a trade with Phoenix? Say #1 for #4 and Bender. (Booker instead and you can sign me up already). Obviously you only do this if you think Fultz and Tatum are both future all star potential and gap between them isn't great.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I would pass. I was very high on Bender last year, but he has a long way to go.

If Tatum is there, sure. Getting Bender also gives us flexibility to release or S&T Olynyk. And Dragan showed enough as a rook to convince me he'll be good, at least better than Olynyk.

So is it safe to assume that Ball won't work out with us and will only work out for LA?

Wouldn't be bad to put a little bit of a squeeze on LA. If just for kicks.

Seriously, that knucklehead on with Zolak yesterday was saying that eh didn't think the Celtics success has been remarkable, and that they were expected to have a good season. Seriously, look at the big picture, this team was flat terrible three years ago and hasn't even tried to win yet in terms of front office moves, and is already back in the conference finals.

Hard pass. The only way I entertain an offer like that is if we have a legitimately proven young player coming here that can still help us now.

It's a little low for my liking but Porzingis & NY's 1st for our 1st., though I'd probably still pass since it's not top 4. 5 & on seems to have another drop off to me.

Do the Sixers follow up from drafting a big three years in a row with drafting a ball dominant wing who can't shoot for a second year in a row? So **** thankful I don't have to root for that guy next year...
