Jalen Smith will get buried on Ime's bench, so probably very little chance he'll want to return and ride the pine.

No No No. The Suns declined his rookie option. Please read my five posts on this topic.

Can see dealing the TPE to either the Clippers or Portland or San Antonio.

Marcus Morris, Luke Kennard, Normal Powell, Lance Nance, Derrick White and Doug McDermott all fit into the TPE.

Getting under the tax is going to take a Juancho salary dump. Schroeder's not coming back next year, swapping him out for a young big with upside who *might* stay is a reasonable move.

I think Smith could come cheap - he had a hot week, great, but Romeo or Nesmith could do that at any point, too. I don't even know if Ime would play him. Depends on how he looks the rest of the season and how free agency plays out.

Yes, that's fair-- so long as he only costs Schroder and some of Wyc's cash.

Smith fits into the Kemba Walker TPE. That may help things.

Huh. Doesn't sound like we could get him for a couple of seconds, but you could do that, trade DS for a 1st, dump Juancho and be under the tax line. They could also trade Nesmith for Jalen if they're really done with him. Nice of Aaron to show up last night, though, dangle just enough skill that you hesitate.

No point in trading for Smith. We would lose him in the summer if he is at least semi good.

That is why he has little to no trade value, he would be a rental for any team that trades for him...

Yes, just like Schroder.

Agreed. Schröder is on his way out. Might as well take a look at Smith?

Not necessarily. He wont get offered more than 5 million at this point imo. As a backup center behind timelord solidifies that.

And a team that trades for h after sitting on the bench for 2 years and getting declined might just make him really happy to sign a 2 year deal and have a promise of time and opportunity tonprove himself

Smith can play Power Forward too.
He could come in as a Backup for either position?

He's going to get the MLE in July. The cheapskate Suns screwed up.

IINM, Celtics would keep his Early Bird Rights.

But the C’s or whoever trades for him would own his Bird Rights, and would only have to offer him a max of $4.7 million in the offseason. That could be the most intriguing part of the young big.

Yeah. He still has the 2 years.
He's got Early Bird Rights, if he gets Traded.

Any Jaylen trade not for KAT is a sideways move or a step back, but if it’s Fox + two prospects + dumping Horford’s money..

From a Celtic standpoint if I were wanting to be involved in a 3 Way for Brown I want the following:

Kings out: Haliburton, Barnes, Thompson
Kings in: Simmons, Pritchard

Celtics out: Brown, Pritchard
Celtics in: Haliburton, Barnes, Philly 1st

Philly out: Simmons, 1st
Philly in: Brown, Thompson (Waived)

I’m not sure the Kings would do this trade but if they would it would be what I want.

Idk, that doesn't actually answer my "prompt" at all. Everyone liking that package for Boston underrates Brown, overrates Barnes, and underestimates the difference between them and the benefit of having HB as a small ball 4. And Haliburton is a nice player, but the odds he overcomes his limitations to be an all-star aren't high, and he's being overrated because everyone loves the archetype - smart, tall point guard, shooting and double digit assists. Jaylen is the best player in the deal and stays that way his entire career unless there's a miracle with Ben's shot or Hali's development.

Ah, but the Gilbert Arenas provision rears its ugly head. Sure-they might keep him if he plays badly or if they bury him on the bench.

Smith would be a UFA and the Celtics can only offer him $4.7 million. If another team offered him $5.0 million he is gone. Celtics would have to have cap space or MLE to offer Smith more.

Huh?

The Gilbert Arenas provision is a good thing, not a bad one, when it applies.

Are you suggesting it wouldn't apply?

Celtics get by far the worst out of a deal like this. Kings get an All Star level player, Sixers get an All Star level player, Celtics get a talented second year player, an overqualified role player, and a first that is likely to be well outside the lottery for the foreseeable future (and they lose an All Star player).
