Biggest surprise for me in there is the agent isn’t getting a much bigger cut.

Anyways on the taxes everything he buys with what’s left over is taxed after that so that’s just getting started.

dont players get back whatever’s in escrow? 50% is pretty standard for the highest income earners.

Also a guy like brown negotiating a supermax might need an agent, but if Im a guy like Luka, Jokic, Giannis etc. Im not using an agent for my NBA income, only Ad deals.

The best part about this deal is we don't have to hear those horrible Brown trade ideas anymore!

Escrow comes back to the player in 99% of cases yes.

A lot of money but both sides didn't really have any other options. JB is 100% taking that life changing money. Boston is in a contending window, already made a core trade in Smart/KP (they dont want to change their lineup too much), so they paid on certainty rather than a lot of these teams paying hoping to get good. Boston wasn't going to trade him for lesser value at this stage. You guys can later if things don't work out in the next 2 years.

The Celtics had all the leverage. The most Brown could have got in free agency was 190 million over 5 years and he would have had to have risked an injury all season which would risk costing him it all like happened to Cousins and IT.

The very fact that the Celtics didn’t ever try to pinch pennies says it all about Brad’s and the team’s commitment and belief in this player. Regardless of what the peanut gallery here thinks, that is undeniable.

That said, it’s also true that with new CBA there could have been a disadvantage to trimming the contract if they do indeed try to trade him in the future for another supermax caliber player given they have to match dollar for dollar.

This was always the only outcome in the cards despite the 100s of pages of drivel and nonsensical trades and trashing of JB. Hopefully with everybody that matters locked up for at least 2 years the Celtics can come together and make the sacrifices to their egos and personal goals to get Banner 18,
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Only in the NBA would a person infer that being minutes or a game away from something is some type of accomplishment

Not fair. This won't work for Tatum.

Anyone else catch his presser? Interesting comment towards the end stating he wants the team to hang their hat on defense this year. Doubt Joe loved that one. Makes me wonder if these guys are over Ime.

I'm always weary when I hear them say "It's not about the money". We all know it's cap; he'd be wearing a different jersey next season if they didn't give him the supermax.

I'm pretty sure JB is over Ime. JB knows that Ime was the one pushing to have him traded for KD last summer.

Also, we had a top 3 defense in the league with Joe as HC, despite the reigning DPOY and another reigning all-NBA defender (smart, rob) missing a combined 68 games.

And Joe was instrumental in our top ranked defense the year before.

This is the JB thread though, so let's not get off track :)
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

After that press conference I came away beyond impressed with him. I have issues with his on the court game that I hope he can work out this year. That said. at this point, I don't know how not to root for him. For who he is, on as well as off the court. He is everything you would want to root for. I still don't think his game complements Tatum's but I'm rooting for them to figure it out.

The worst case scenario was losing JB to FA.
The best case was getting him to take another “team friendly” deal.
This outcome is much closer to the best case than the worst.
The new CBA sucks for us, but so did the Rose Rule and the random cap spike that got KD to GS — gotta keep moving forward regardless.

Also Brown has one the highest IQ in any sports it's almost as if you don't know what your typing?
I expect you to say this about Tatum next year since he has more turnovers than brown and a way lower IQ SMH

Oh in about two or so years most of those names on the list will be paid more than brown.
