I suspect Ainge was trying to do that with IT and Kemba coming in and being leaders with Horford.

Unfortunately Smart, Brown, Tatum all being great friends and supporting Irving shows all too often in the worse way when it comes to competitors.

Now that the team is theirs it's just not great.

The fact that THEY got tired of Brad Stevens when they were going to the playoffs constantly is a horrible sign of their character as competitors. And then lobbying for a rookie coach is another sign their priority wasn't about winning on the court. It's not what a Jimmy Butler, Shaq, KG, Rondo, ect would exclusively care about. They'd put winning at least equal measure in their decision.

It's probably good for these player's long term mental health that the game results doesn't matter to them in the prioritization of what they care about in life or if it does it's very low on their list but as a General Manager that's not what you want for your franchise.
