Are there any guards that can't shoot or are undersized so I have a better idea on who Ainge is going to draft?

Please don't draft on hand size at all. It can be the difference between great and all-NBA but it doesn't make one a good player (that said agility is important obviously).

Kawhi is good because his ridiculous work ethic. His hand size just gives him the higher ceiling.

Tyler Herro: Small hands and short arms limited his draft stock a bit - turns out he'll be a good player because he was already good at basketball.

Jaylen: Small hands - limits his ability to do Jordan-esque ball fakes - but he still does a lot of really damn good things - like his Jordan-esque fallaway.

Grant Hill: Small hands but an incredibly gifted player.

Can't wait to revisit on draft night and see how you **** on any player the Celtics draft because of "Danny's hubris". Interestingly you have a handful of guys who are projected to be picked at 14 as the lowest on your list - I wonder why

There are few thing I am certain of, but Payton Pritchard not being the fourth best player in this draft is one of those things I can say with certainty.

He would be a solid pick and Ainge loves high rated high school players. He'd be such a great weapon for this team, this gives us some more versatility on the offensive end. The kid looks like Westbrook out there but with more IQ(more court vision), he could turnout to be a huge steal at #14.

I'm not even worried about his defensive weaknesses. We have Brad Stevens, he somehow makes his players better defenders. We had questions about Tatums defense but he developed himself in one of the best defensive player on our roster. RJ with his attributes and intangibles will probably turnout a better defender under Stevens.

I think this kid will deliver during crunch time, when it matters most.

don't think i've ever seen a breakdown video that made me want to draft a guy even less than this one did.

I guess I’m willing to consider if I can start getting at all enthused about finding a way to get on board with him. Best I’ve come up with so far is “guess I would like a PG with height, eventually.” Needs to put on 15 lbs of muscle though!

Also if we take him at 14 please give me Oturu or Nnaji at 26 or 30. I can’t leave this draft without legit size up front.

I'm actually more certain that whatever the hell a Karim Mane is will not be the 6th best player in this draft.

I'd like to see Ainge deviate from his history of reaches and draft defined skills.

Superior shooter, without development, and High B-Ball IQ
Dominant Rebounder, pick setter, with High IQ
Penetrator that can break down a defense thru speed or craftiness with string-like ball control, excellent court vision and a willingness to pass, but can either finish or make a shot if necessary

To me a ball player is someone with fierce competiveness, plays defense like he wants to get inside the jersey of the man in front of him by denying his man the ball, and doesn't whine no matter what happens. Hard nosed competitors with high IQs and DEFINED NBA LEVEL SKILLs on Day 1. I don't think this is rocket science. When I turned 13 I was told to learn to shoot and DRIBBLE with the weaker hand. Find guys who can do that. When I was 12 I had a coach who had players foul us, intentionally, to develop concentration to the point that you would finish every shot no matter what happens. Focus, stay with it, and don't quit, ever.

Doesn't matter the positions so much as getting guys with the skills from the get-go.

I'd really like to see someone who can just drill shots. It's been a while since the days of Ray Allen, Eddie House, Paul Pierce and James Posey. It's nice when you have 4 guys whose combined average is 39.17% from 3. Like to see that again.

At least he's a hyper athlete with jumbo guard potential. I could see Karim Mane being a top-5 player from this draft if he hits his ceiling, like 2% chance. I wouldn't bet on it, but I suppose it's a possibility. He'll probably get drafted late second round. But Pritchard is a senior 6'2" guard and for him to be the fourth best player he basically has to shoot like Steph Curry lite.

I'm trying to understand Ainge evaluation process why would he be high on a player like Nate Hinton? I looked at dudes stats and it abysmal hoping he reevaluating this my God. I could handle yurtseven as 2nd rounder but Nate I don't get it.

I doubt that happens.

Trader Danny won't pass up yet another opportunity to draft an undersized PF.

Hard to tell who will even be available at #14. I would look for upside and Hampton probably makes the most sense. Seems like a typical Ainge pick too.

At #26 I would pick Tyler Bey. Elite defender with great lenght and atleticism. I believe there's also some upside in his 3p shooting. Seems to be a decent FT shooter on a very high volume. His catch&shoot form looks fine. For some reason he's just reluctant to shoot.

Very intrigued by Tillman at #30. His shooting results during combine was a surprise. Maybe lacks size a bit but basically same as Adebayo. Very nimble, moves great on both sides of the floor. High motor just like Bey. His passing ability is something to note.

I'm curious about a couple groupings. Do you see much difference between TBey/Woodard?
Or the group of 4 bigs in a row (Onyeka Okongwu, Precious Achiuwa, Patrick Williams, Paul Reed)?

If we ended up with 2 or 3 of those 6, I'd be pretty happy. Or really 4 off your list.
Maxey & maybe Tillman are really the only ones I've considered that aren't on there. I want to say I'd take a flier on McDaniels, but there will be guys like Bey/Woodard/Reed at those picks, and he won't last til 47.

Would have been nice if Pritchard was at the combine to see his height without shoes.

He's a long guard with great lateral athleticism and his defensive metrics are off the **** charts good. He's a UDFA/47 target unless I'm missing something. If they take him it's because his stat profile is so unique and they believe he can shoot. not many guard who rebound and play defense like this. To me he's easily better than Semi Ojeleye tomorrow.

What is so great about Yurtseven? He's older and plays a useless position, can't shoot.

If you are wondering why someone might be bullish on Hinton, read this: https://www.thestepien.com/2019/09/12/draft-notes-nate-hintons-uniqueness/ and watch some of these highlights. Keep in mind this was written after his freshman year and then he improved during his sophomore campaign. This draft is so underrated if you just ignore bigs.

Well for the record I'm not high on yurtseven but understood the need . But after reading this 20) In an ideal world, Hinton would be 6-foot-8 instead of 6-foot-5 or 6-foot-6, or he’d be slightly more athletic. Slightly quicker. Slightly more explosive. However, even as is, he’s plenty interesting as a player. Defensive athleticism that translates to defensive performance and is also backed up by a dribble-pass-shoot offensive skill-set, which still seems to be blossoming, is the beginnings of the type of player that has real value in the NBA. One we might end up calling 3&D, yet who ends up being something slightly more. I'm more than satisfied

One thing to keep in mind with Hampton is that he played for a relatively decent team here in the NBL (whereas Ball's Hawks team were rubbish).
They made very few allowances for him being here, and basically expected him to fit into their system, rather than the other way around. To his credit, he did a decent job of this as the season progressed, despite this sometimes relegating him to off ball roles, and limiting his ability to shine.

He has legit north-south speed, too.

14 feels a touch early to me, but I wouldn't see him being around by 26, so...yeah...I could kinda talk myself into it, even though it wouldn't be my pick. Coachable kid with some good size and tools, bit of a project I think.

Oooh...meant to say...for all his defensive issues, he looked like he took clear steps over the course of the season to me. Had some pretty horrible off ball mental lapses, like Jaylen Brown on a bad day...lol

I don't see the need for a crappy big who can't shoot or move his feet. I can't imagine he is going to be drafted or sought out by any good team in free agency. Can't you just find that guy in europe every year for free?

Yeah in an ideal world Hinton would be way more athletic and a better shooter and then he'd be a top-5 draft pick. Am I reading the mocks wrong? I barely see him on half of them. What's more valuable, a 7 footer who can't shoot or do anything besides play drop coverage or a 6'5 guard with intriguing defense and shooting potential? he's in the Karim Mane, Jalen Harris, Jay Scrubb tier where you just draft them at 47 or sign as a UDFA and hope they develop the weak parts of their game.
