I hope they manage to dump Simons somewhere and consider Scheierman pretty much a lock for the rotation. I take it JD will start the year in the rotation and think Hugo's D gets him a slot in there too. And then a 2nd center is in there with Queta.
Yep, same. No point in Simons keeping us over the tax and taking time from developing our long term young guys. Let's see what Baylor esp, but also JD, Hugo, Walsh and Minott have to offer.
If they see Simons as a long term piece they can afford, then sure, but it's kind of one of those things if he does well enough to keep, our finances won't allow it. If he's cheap enough to keep, then he's probably not good enough to.
True.
But if he's good enough to keep, maybe we sign him to like $20mil a season, maybe $25mil, tops..that could be doable, if everyone else on our team (outside of the Jays and white) are making under $10mil a year and everyone else is just on rookie contracts for minimum contracts except for Pritchard and a starting C (under $10mil a year)
Especially if White getting up there in age causes him to be less effective as a scorer and both the Jays coming off surgery, they might need more rest days and we might want to lessen their offensive load a bit, so having that young, offensive weapon like Simons could prove to be super valuable long term for us to continue to be a contender.
Not to sidetrack the Hugo thread though
The C's became a contender when they stopped having any rotational players, let alone starters, who were defensive liabilities.
