Re: Official Draft Thread 2015-16
Jay Brown can't shoot and he has higher turnovers than assists this year. why is he a top pick? cos he can dunk?
^that's my best curm impression -- but it's true! why's he rated that high? He next Derozan?
I like Derozan more than 95% of this board, so if that's his upside, I'm cool with that.

Dunn is good value in this draft at 5. In a normal draft he's probably more in the 8-12 range, but he'd be a good fit here. He plays great D, is magic in the open court, hits the glass and has good vision. His TOs are a problem and his shot needs cleaning up, but he's not got a busted jumper a la Elfrid Payton / Rondo.

He's rated high because he's a freak athlete with an NBA ready body at the age of 19. He's a prototype SF that is far from a finished product but will be able to contribute right away despite his youth.

I would say also that if it goes Ingram/Simmons/Bender/Dunn, my next two choices would be Brown and Ellenson. I know Ellenson has defensive issues but he's got a great frame/wingspan and I think Stevens would get him to play better D just like he has with Olynyk.
Brown is high risk with a busted jumper, but he's got a great work ethic and solid tools. Not a stud like Stanley Johnson / Justise Winslow, but still a good prospect. Best-case is he a guy like Caron Butler or maybe a notch better. Worst case, you've got Moe Harkless on your hands.

He is a natural scorer. Just a very advanced feel.

Re: Official Draft Thread 2015-16
As I said once before, Jaylen Brown to the Celtics would be the best thing for him (although not THE best for us). His NBA career will literally depend on two things: understanding the game (particularly offensively) and shooting. Rest of his skills are either good or even great, but those two are just atrocious to the point of unplayability. My guess would be that he didn't have a good HS coach and that he dominated by athleticism which didn't make the coach teach him the right way. Enter Brad Stevens, the teacher. Thibs would do a great job too if they end up together in Phoenix or Minny. Except for Pop, I just don't see a better coach for Brown than those two.
I wouldn't be upset if we end up with Bender or Brown, those might be a sneaky good picks for Cs. IMO, both would flourish into at least borderline All-star level with Stevens.

Barring injury, Bender is going to flourish no matter who is coaching him. He is currently the best 18 year-old player in the world.

I'd draft Rabb and Luwawu ahead of Ellenson, Hank is not as mobile as Kelly, or fluid, everything is workable, but he looks more like a stretch big than a PF.

Re: Official Draft Thread 2015-16
I really like Rabb. If he shows good form on his jumper in workouts he'd change my mind. Just doesn't use it in college right now, but he is a decent FT shooter for a freshman big.
What I like about Ellenson is when he gets stronger he can be a true stretch center. Rabb to me is strictly a PF.
Don't know Luwawu at all - just doubt Ainge goes for him as he's never been hot and heavy for foreign players. He's about to turn 21 as well, which is a little old - would have to think Ainge would need to feel he's immediately ready to pass up a guy like Brown, Rabb or Ellenson. Ellenson/Rabb are almost 2 years younger, Brown a year and a half. That makes a big difference IMO.

Yeah he's basically a blank slate right now in terms of skills. Love his efficiency when he does get the ball, rebounding and block/steal rates though.

Jaylen Brown putting on a show. Has done a little bit of everything. His length clearly bothering the opposition. With 3.8 seconds left in the half went coast to coast to convert a layup and beat the buzzer.

Both Brown and Rabb played well tonight. I saw Brown make two 3's and he looked good on his shot. He reminds of of Stanley Johnson.

Re: Official Draft Thread 2015-16
Brown's jumper is nowhere near NBA ready, so you are kooking at a steep offensive growth curve. Unlike Winslow, he has very little feel for the game offensively.
He's a willing defender and a smart kid, but we have no idea what he can contribute if he can't develop into a go-to scorer - which is all he's shown he knows to date.
His defensive upside and positional versatility is something I'd bet on if forced to select at 5-6, but i'd be more comfortable moving down and drafting a player like Korkmaz and picking up another asset to try and trade back up to get Luwawu.
To me that duo is a better hedge than banking on Jaylen to be an elite offensive player. He and Murray are both pretty risky in that 5-8 range - easily could be low impact specialists.

I don't watch college hoops anymore. Is Brown like Stanley Johnson ? That would be a nice addition.

He is a way better athlete imo, and longer, not as skilled in terms of looking for his shot, Stanley can play with blinders but he is clearly a skilled ballhandler.
