Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
I hope that was the mulligan game for the Pats. That was a complete disaster. Mac is not going to survive the season if he keeps getting smashed like he is. If you give the kid a clean pocket he's amazing, even today, but he almost never gets time to set and throw. Hopefully Jonnu will bounce back bigly next week after this brain fart game. Now we're looking at 1-3, that's a tough hole to climb out of.
Man, what a **** weekend in sports. I guess the Bruins won a preseason game, yay.

Yeah, I don't know what the odds are but I'd imagine making the playoffs after starting 1-3 is slim-to-none, especially with how we've looked so far. If we can SOMEHOW manage a win against Brady it, while being an amazing accomplishment in and of itself, really could save the season.

The game against the Saints was ugly!! Johnnu, seemingly, couldn't hang on to anything thrown his way. And our O line was overmatched. We got the results of a rookie quarterback under constant pressure.

Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
Yeah that game was an unmitigated **** show.
On the positive side it's probably a good thing some of the wind has come out of the sails for this Tampa game. Buccs just took an L and Mac had a rough game, the storylines will still run wild, but probably a little less so.
Mac didn't have a great game, but the box score doesn't quite do him justice. Receivers didn't help, line left him out to dry. That being said his decision making wasn't nearly as good as it had been. Also McDaniels hasn't shown that this team can step on the gas and move down the field in big chunks. It's clear that with some turnovers on the other side and ball security from Mac we can gut out some wins this season, but we'll need more than that to be able to dig ourselves out of holes or stay competitive in shootouts.
Biggest loss was James White getting injured. As much as I'd like to see some more shots downfield, the bread and butter still has to be short/easy/manageable throws for Mac and that's White all day. It's gonna be a massive loss to not have him out there as a check down option/safety blanket. Rhamondre Stevenson looked good in the preseason, this might be his chance to step up.
Really tough loss given that it's hard to look to next week and expect to be able to bounce back in a big way. That being said Tampa isn't invincible, Bill is still a genius and we've witnessed crazier things happen. There's a reason the game gets played on Sundays and not on paper. If the Pats pull this one out of the bag it could reinvigorate the whole season. And if not...

Go take a good look at the Pats schedule I can see only 3-5 wins against the Jets, Texans, Jags, and maybe Colts & Falcons.

Last time we started 1-3 we won the super bowl so we’re right in schedule obvi.

Pheeww.. Great drive by Mac. Bourne making plays, cooking Sherman and we finally get a TD drive.

Crushing defeat. Taylor's fumble, much like Harris' the other day, once again costs us a win. Dissapointed in that last drive also..we should have gotten way closer to give Nick more of a chance.
Wasted opportunity to pick up a win. Mac's teammates just keep letting him down.. Smh.

I doubt the Pat's make the playoffs but they'll get better as the season goes on (especially defensively). This year will be all about growth for Mac Jones. Good game overall, I thought Brady was going to dissect us but overall the D wasn't bad. Just got to stop fumbling the **** football.

Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
Great game bummed we lost tho. Mac was great what was it 21 straight completions or something like that once protection gets marginally better the offense will improve.
Defense was very good I couldn’t believe they played so well. Bill pulled out the old “Thurman Thomas defense” and he even changed into his sith lord cutoff hoody after halftime.
Got Houston, Dallas, jets, chargers, panthers and browns give me 4-2 and we’re a playoff team forsure I think maybe possibly i hope.

tbh more competitive against the champs then i thought they would be. so bummed about that fg. but D looking better. mac jones looking amazing for a rook, especially with a big fat goose egg from the running game. wtf happened to all our backs, wasn't that supposed to be a strength of this team? oof. we're better than our record.

Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
Way better result than I think anyone could have realistically hoped for or expected.
Mac impressed under the circumstances, but this team really isn't that much different than last year. Some tough losses based on turnovers/mistakes that traditionally wouldn't have happened with a Patriots team. And while I don't expect the results this season to be much different than last when it comes to the W/L column, we've at least now got some pieces with upside where you can realistically expect to see progression in the coming years.
We're a team that's gonna battle to be .500, but as long as they keep building smart, I think you can expect 2+ more W's next year and the year after. It's all about getting rid of these killer mistakes and letting the other team beat themselves. That's what happened in the early Brady years and that's what we can build around Mac if he keeps developing on his current trajectory.

The Pats are going nowhere with the offensive line as presently constituted. There's no run game, and no deep passing game, since they can't block and they can't protect. Maybe they should bring Dante Scarnecchia out of retirement-- again.
As for Jones, he clearly outplayed Brady.

Re: General Boston Sports Thread, Phase 2
Our offense was terrible. Our offense missed Gronk, but no excuse because we have AB, Mike, and Godwin... OJ is good but up and down and Brate is good/reliable!! Our offense is STACKED even without Gronk. We had a lot of looks that went sailing or went the opposite direction of the players.
The defense was fine considering we are decimated by injuries. We had to start Sherman after being with us 3 DAYS, that should tell you all you need to know about injuries. Our defense had practice squad guys at corner. Just terrible injury luck. We were never confident in our backfield (except for Carlton) and we won the chip, so imagine how we feel with the guys we have left standing now! Y'all should have done well with the bodies we had available, good on Mac for taking a little advantage. You should be upset you only managed 17, considering we almost had to send a coach out there to play
!
They are smart with Mac, let him dink and dunk his first year, will pick up some wins off that. That's exactly the route you should take against our team, same as last season.

The single elimination play in is brutal in the mlb. Getting to eliminate the Yankees that way with generous help from the green monster was glorious.
