Lot of turnovers/no shooting? Nope. Not worth it. Only good thing is his contract.
He's better than Smart, Rozier, or Jackson. He's put up double digit scoring games in 9 of his last 12. We could use a consitent bench scorer, especially at his contract.

No idea what Vucevic's market is. Dallas might trade Bogut for him. New Orleans? New York? Portland?
He's a good player, but just good. No one cares about pure post scoring anymore. I'd rather have him at 13 million than Blake at 26 million... but he's a defensive liability. If it didn't hurt our cap, I'd take him.

Name another point guard in the league making $2.6 mil and putting up 12 points, 5 assists wth a PER of 16.6. Smart has a PER of 10.5.
Payton ranks 21st in PER for point guards in the league and everyone 1-20 above him makes more than he does. Smart ranks 49th.

Also, just to add, B2P, McDermott doesn't suck, he's actually a really good player. He's probably our 4th or 5th best player, and would really be a starter if not for the stupid Rondo, Wade, Butler trio.
I included him because he's 25, so a bit older if we're rebuilding, and would help tip the scales a bit more given the apprehension on giving up both picks.
I think you're offer was kind of fair. Getting a lot more than a Butler deserves for our situation. One would only make that offer if they thought Butler guaranteed them into the CLE/GSW levels of teams.
But at the same time I just don't see any scenario that makes sense for CHI to trade Butler. So I guess getting 3 top 5 picks for the next 3 years sure you have to say yes. But not sure why BOS or anyone else would overpay so highly.
If CHI is blowing it up, they should trade Wade first, as Butler is someone although in his prime...you can try to build around.
As for McBuckets, we have Kelly O. Similar role and player but ours is 7 foot tall instead of 6'8".
If GSW are getting nervous they may give you something for Wade, same with CLE if LeBron says go get his butt buddy. You won't get a full rebuild, but if CHI is out of the playoffs Wade is meaningless on your team anyways.
Even Toronto could potentially go in for Wade. We all know the Knicks are dumb enough to do so no matter how many GMs get fired for making that same mistake over and over again. The Clippers have to be desperate with Blake expiring and them in potentially their last chance with this core.
So it looks like to me if CHI is blowing it up, they should be able to collect a first and something for Wade from the contenders. BOS needs rebounding desperately so they could collect a couple of seconds for Gibson from us. Ty Zeller would match the salaries. It would just be a one year rental though as we'd certaintly not resign Gibson for the same reasons the Bulls wouldn't.
Not fireworks instant rebuild, but a start to rebuild around Jimmy B.
I seriously doubt anyone would take on Rondo though.

If you're using PER as your advanced stat of choice, you're already making a mistake. It's a bad stat.
I like VORP, or value over replacement player; 2 out of the last 3 seasons, Smart's VORP was better than Payton's.
Getting Payton doesn't move the needle at all. It won't help us much, if at all, so why make the trade?

Cousins is top 5 in the NBA in PER right now, have to trade for him based on that right?

There's no real need for him now, but if we lost Smart and/or Rozier in a trade, he's a good option considering his salary.

All of the top 15 PER players in the league are all star caliber players that any team would trade for given the right deal. Not sure the point you're trying to make here.

So is Cousins a top 5 NBA player?

Never said anything about Smart but Payton is still a very sub par average PG who gets a lot of use in Orlando. Offensively he is a huge negative and that cant be ignored.
Again....never said anything about Smart.

Never said PER ranking is equivalent to the best players in the league rankings. Just because he's 5th in PER doesn't mean he's the 5th best player in the league. What I said was all 15 of the players currently leading the league in PER are all stars and would be wanted in trades.

I know you didn't but I was using him to compare that Payton is still better than anyone we have backing up IT.

It tells some of the story, but not all of it. I'm pretty sure I also mentioned his salary, points, and assists. Actually, I'm positive I did.

Hard to argue with Homers.

People need to get over the fact that some players are available. They are available for a reason.

Right. Which is why 99% of our roster is available.
