Considering the circumstances, a reasonable deal. That's what you expect when two smart teams deal with each other.
Toronto took a worthwhile gamble on Leonard. They saw how limited that roster was in the playoffs, KL gives them playoff upside. Maybe he misses most of the year and they lose a late first and Poltl for nothing. But, you have to do it IMO. It's not like you wanna pay DeRozan's next big contract.
I'm not a DeRozan fan. SG version of Melo. All star every year, big numbers but questionable impact on winning. Still, a very good regular season player. His ability to get to the FT line is an elite skill.
As far as I'm concerned, Poltl is the key to this trade for the Spurs long term. #9 pick two years ago, quietly played really well in limited minutes behind Ibaka and Jonas. No one is even mentioning him but I think he can become really good.
Trading a star player sucks. You rarely get a fair return. You know what else sucks. Watching the league where players who have 2+ years left on their contract are demanding a trade to a specific location.
