Tatum’s affinity for Boston was also clear. On signing a contract extension to keep him with the Celtics, Tatum smiled “I was really excited about that. Glad that they want me here, since I want to be here. After getting to Boston, there is nowhere else I want to play.”

He really wants to stay in Boston long term, both Jays do. I can say this with near 100% certainty.

But....they will look elsewhere if the team isn’t championship caliber.

And yet here Danny is, talking about punting seasons.

If we lose either of these guys, it's 110% on Danny and the organization and not on the two Jays whatsoever.

Here’s how I look at it. No, trading for Barnes/Gordon/Horford+Hill/whoever almost certainly won’t make the team title contenders. But it’s a message to the Jays that you believe in them, and you’re at least making an effort to make their lives easier on the court.

Give them something better to work with, and see what they do.

If you got to this Twitter strand from Ryan Bernardoni I think very similar. I just don't see how Boston improves the roster too much in the future right now with Tatums money kicking in. Why not try to salvage this year and build with a roster moving forward. Instead of pushing yourself against a wall in Summer.

Exactly, it's not a great message when our response to the Nets, Bucks and Philly having good seasons is to roll over and die. We're better than that and should be better.

Also, Barnes and Gordon are under contract and will be here multiple seasons, same with Al Horford

So the response to James Harden is Aaron Gordon. Usually the only time Aaron Gordon is the response is when the question is, "can you name the worse version of Larry Nance, Jr?"

At least Tatum won't get COVID while in Atlanta. Jaylen, please wear PPE at all times including during the game.

Have they set the rosters? I know top vote-getters Lebron and KD are supposed to pick their teammates. Let's hope both Jays are coached by Snyder instead.

Not sure if these comments from Brad have already been posted...

They've been super special," Stevens said of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. "And this is part of the path, right? This is part of, 'Okay, now, every time you come down the court, your teammates are all looking for you, almost playing hesitantly and unconfidently, right, when you're struggling as a team, and the other team is just loading up on you."

"Their burden is so large right now -- those guys are having monster years," he added.

Stevens spoke on texting a Celtics player (not Brown or Tatum) to watch film of Boston's second game against Indiana this season to help instill some confidence back into this player to be 'more aggressive and more assertive.'

"They can't be staring at those guys wanting them to make a play. And I think that there's a balance there, there's a line there. And so, you know, those guys are special, they've both been named All-Stars. With that comes an extra level and layer of scrutiny," the Celtics head coach said.

"We know those two guys are winners. We know those two guys are as competitive as they come at a young age. And we're going to keep riding them. And at the same time again, that's my task as a coach right now is to make everybody else feel empowered to be their best self around them. Because we need more if we're going to be a good team."

The pension is actually 100 pct of salary, too, if you were wondering about retirement benefits.

To be fair, the argument against waiting until its expiration date to use it is the same as the argument for pretending you're willing to do so. Save it til later = everyone knows you need to use it. Desperate to save this season = everyone knows you're trying to use it now. You have to negotiate like you're not in any rush. If you're desperate to save this season, you can't let that be known.

Or, rather, since it's probably the default outside assumption that we're a bit desperate, you'll want to actively undermine it.
