This and our shot selection are issues.

Even in the win vs. Indy, we were just lucky Kemba and co. were making their midrange shots and Pacers kept missing wide open threes. A 24-attempt and 18-point disparity from three would otherwise lead to a loss. Tatum took 18 shots, only 4 threes. Brown 12 shots, 2 threes.

Just checked Sunday's game is at 7pm eastern time.

Meanwhile no more B2B before all star game.

LAC Tues, Toronto Thursday.

Put me in the group that believes the Js need some rest BIGTIME.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

Some of Kemba's poor shooting games were the same shots he made tonight, we'd have lost if he wasn't stroking it. One good thing was the cutting by Pritch and the couple times Green did it but that was only around 5 times combined. Theis found the stroke again. The offense is piss poor and I hate to see it. People standing looking like "they got it, I'll just wait RIGHT HERE until it's my turn to get it!" :banghead:

I've been saying for a little while this has to be Brad's TOP coaching focus until he cleans it up, perhaps in a tie with running back on transition defense. (Actually, they're related, as both have to do with energetically improving your positioning.)

Agreed. The look of our offense was pretty much the same. Kemba just had a spring to his step and was knocking down shots. The pace on offense and energy on defense were different though. And I thought several players on the court got to touch the ball on more possessions than not. PP, Timelord, and Theis were less timid. PP was cutting and crashing the boards. Timelord was active on both ends. Theis was not hesitant with his catch-and-shoot. Teague gave us a lift, as much as we trashed him all season.

If the offense is pretty much the same then clearly the problem is the players and not the coach.

Kemba and Theis making shots results in a Celtic win.

Both those guys played bad the previous games and the Celts couldn't win a game.

Clearly it's a case of if the players are good then the coach will look good.

The system won't change overnight. Not without an extended break or full season or plentiful practice sessions. Especially not with the personnel we have. So the ball movement and player movement thing can wait until the offseason. They could maybe add a couple of pet plays for specific players (*cough* Nesmith *cough*) but changing the look of our offense won't happen midseason. We're still good with the ATOs but we don't have a thousand timeouts. And Brad usually reserves a timeout or two for the next game anyway.

Here's what they can control though... playing with a quicker pace and shot selection. We already saw Tatum improve his shot selection for an extended stretch last season, giving up some of his midrange jumpers in exchange for threes and drives. So we already know they can do it. It's not even the case of he only takes what the defense gives him. He settles for those fadeaway jumpers esp when he has a perceived mismatch and late in games.

It's also infuriating how we walk the ball up the court more often than not (the Pacers game was more of an exception). Smart, Kemba, and Tatum are all guilty of this. Very rarely do we look up for a forward pass opportunity or just simply run back for a possible secondary break score.

Here's our effective field goal % broken down by shot clock range:

4-0: 38.9%
7-4: 50.5%
15-7: 53.3%
18-15: 52.4%
22-18: 65.2%
24-22: 60.7%

So the deeper we get into the clock, the poorer we shoot. Makes sense. If there's a team that could use a 7-seconds-or-less philosophy, it's us.

The main problem is the PG is a scoring PG.

What Kemba tries to do is to get open so that he can shoot.

If the Celts want a quicker pace then find a PG who can run the offense properly.

Celtics ranking in 3-pt rate per year:

2016-17: 3rd
2017-18: 9th
2018-19: 9th
2019-20: 14th
2020-21: 21st

We've gone away from the 3-pt shot since IT's last year. I blame the fans who got tired of the team taking so many threes lol. Embrace the modern game!

I used to blame Kyrie and Mook for all those midrange shots. Brown and Tatum have taken the baton from them. :(

I almost want us to lose all the games just to see how close this group can get.

The Boston Celtics are currently the shortest team in the NBA based on average height, at 6'4.0. What’s more, is their effective field-goal percentage is nothing to brag about, as they’re currently ranked at 19th in the NBA, shooting 53.1%. While there is no observable correlation between height and winning in the regular season, there is certainly a direct correlation in effective field-goal percentage, with height generally being the explanation for good teams that don’t shoot great from the field. Being the shortest team in the league and a below average shooting team is simply not a recipe for success.

What's the average height without Tacko, 5'11?

Lame article. Edwards shoots 91.7% around the basket. Javonte Green 79.3% and Kemba trending upwards, now at 67.7%.

Thompson, who's much taller than all three shoots 56.2% within 3 ft of the rim. No direct correlation. Height isn't everything when it comes to scoring efficiently. I bet Rozier has a higher eFG% this season than Bol Bol or Jonas Valanciunas.

The Celtics have low eFG% this season cos they've been playing like dumbasses who have poor ball movement and shot selection.
