The system won't change overnight. Not without an extended break or full season or plentiful practice sessions. Especially not with the personnel we have. So the ball movement and player movement thing can wait until the offseason. They could maybe add a couple of pet plays for specific players (*cough* Nesmith *cough*) but changing the look of our offense won't happen midseason. We're still good with the ATOs but we don't have a thousand timeouts. And Brad usually reserves a timeout or two for the next game anyway.
Here's what they can control though... playing with a quicker pace and shot selection. We already saw Tatum improve his shot selection for an extended stretch last season, giving up some of his midrange jumpers in exchange for threes and drives. So we already know they can do it. It's not even the case of he only takes what the defense gives him. He settles for those fadeaway jumpers esp when he has a perceived mismatch and late in games.
It's also infuriating how we walk the ball up the court more often than not (the Pacers game was more of an exception). Smart, Kemba, and Tatum are all guilty of this. Very rarely do we look up for a forward pass opportunity or just simply run back for a possible secondary break score.
Here's our effective field goal % broken down by shot clock range:
4-0: 38.9%
7-4: 50.5%
15-7: 53.3%
18-15: 52.4%
22-18: 65.2%
24-22: 60.7%
So the deeper we get into the clock, the poorer we shoot. Makes sense. If there's a team that could use a 7-seconds-or-less philosophy, it's us.
