I thinks it’s either Smart/Horford or Brown/Tatum.

My first thought would have been Smart and Horford without question, but then Smart responded to the question yesterday, it seemed tinged with a little something. What he said was correct, but I didn't really expect him to say it like he did. I shouldn't be surprised because Smart is a straight shooter, but I still didn't expect him to put it that way. Still, I think Ime pretty much said it's going to be Al and Smart... Al for sure, but also someone who has been a while (not a quote).

Pretty much. Those four guys are the obvious candidates, and it'll probably be either both Jays or neither.

Hey there's a Celtics Team Preview on NBATV and Grant Hill mentioned two things about Tatum I hadn't heard:

He was the top 4th quarter scorer in the league last season.

And he was one of only two players who were top 25 in both points from post-ups and points from the 3pt line.

Pretty neato imo.

Anyone for captain but Horford. Dude got greedy and left us to for the Sixers…only to rot in OKCs bench. He’s lucky we had to move Kemba…he really hasn’t done anything great to earn a “legacy” in Boston and I want him prove himself. Would MUCH rather see Smart over Horford for captain.

That's why I strongly believe Tatum is a top 5 player in the NBA.

I keep watching this and thinking that this must be what Udoka is imagining when he's thinking about running the offense through Al.

Yeah Captains gotta be Smart and Horford. Everyone will already center the Jays because they're our best players, but they need to know that Smart and Horford are everything we want to embody in this organization from play style to personality. Let the Jays focus on taking their games to the next level.

Horford embodies taking a bigger contract and going to a division rival the same year Kyrie dumped us….strong leadership there. Dude is getting traded first chance we can get a better player….

Smart on the other hand didn’t play cutsie and re upped with us right away because he WANTED to be here.

meh so what, it's a business.

horford being a captain is about helping the team follow his lead in ball movement and defense. smart being a captain is about helping smart recognize his own role that he's committed to. tatum is too quiet, jaylen can be polarizing.

Idk why you think it's a betrayal. Horford left the Hawks to join the Celtics for the same reason.

It’s a bit different. We had good young talent and actually replaced Kyrie with Kemba…Horford suddenly leaving blindsided us with having to draft and force minutes to Grant. Who knows, if we had Horford, the Miami series may have been different….. it’s just my opinion.

I’m not saying I hate or think Horford is a bad player…but he legit screwed us over and I just don’t want him as a “captain”. He can play, he can start…but he shouldn’t have that C on that green jersey.

It didn't blind side anybody.

He left, so more minutes for Theis, Kanter and Time Lord.

We replaced Kyrie with Kemba. So what? What does that have to do with Horford?

It's a business. Pro athletes go from 1 team to another if they think it's a better situation for them - it's been like that for 50+ years.

Philly gave Al a crazy contract. They overpaid for him. Ainge wasn't willing to pay that much for Al, which was probably the smart decision. Just like Ainge didn't want to overpay for Hayward when the hornets offered Hayward a crazy high contract.

It is what it is..

Al is back here now, and if the other players on the team respect him and if he's one of the 2 best leaders on the team, then sure, make him 1 of the 2 captains..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Good:
1. The Jays are dudes. 11 FTAs in 45 minutes combined was most promising
2. Nesmith. Still running around like a maniac, but hit his shots and didn't foul like crazy on D. Still think he's the right 5th starter
3. Schroder attacking. Couldn't finish anything but loved his driving and think he's going to be just fine.
4. ROMEO! Seriously, would love to see this kid break out and stay healthy this year.

Bad:
1. Everything else.
2. Passing still needs a lot of work. 19 assists on 32 made FGs is OK and probably would've been a lot higher if we hit anything out there, but still felt like we fell back to iso scoring too much.
3. Really hope the Juancho start was a one-time thing. Like the guy but even 17 MPG would be about 2x too many minutes.

I think the Richardson hand-wringing was overblown. He couldn't hit anything and maybe he really is just a poor shooter, but loved his D and he still wound up a +11 in 24 minutes.

I agree with most of that but what do you have against Juancho? He was active as hell on both ends of the floor, especially on the boards. Set screens, made the extra pass, hustled. Good size, good toughness, moves well for a dude his size, his shot looked good, took a 3-pointer that didn't fall, but even though he missed, the shot looked good, it was a good miss.

It was just 1 preseason game. I'm intrigued to see what Juancho brings in the next one..

I was really underwhelmed with yesterday's game. The Magic are not a good team. That said, there were some positives.

Team had really good energy from start to finish, it was just very disorganized energy!

JB was the best player on the floor. Kid was great.

Loved what I saw from Dennis. Smart better watch out because Schroder might make a case to start.

Al looked great. Everytime he was in the game the team played better.

Some not so great things...

Smart was... underwhelming. I am very much not a fan of his and he didn't look any different a facilitator than any other year. Two turnovers in a row to start the game... yuck. He gets too cute, he'll never learn.

Rob was disappointing. Bricked everything and hasn't seemed to improve much on the defensive end.

Overall team play was just... eh. Letting Mo Wagner get hot from 3? I mean cmon. Same sh*t we saw last year letting scrubs hit shots and not closing out properly. Again, just underwhelming.
