I think Javon Small is a sleeper in this draft and I hope Brad Stevens selects him. I get a little bit of Maxey vibes from this guy.
As of May 20th my ideal draft for the Celtics would be Yaxel Lendeborg at #28 and Javon Small at #32.
I wouldn't hate that outcome. 2 solid players. Both age 22 so less of a risky development project, more ready to play. Both with potential to contribute and not be a liability on either end of the floor.
Small is growing on me, perhaps mostly due to the fact that the team brought him in already, but also seeing how he already has a enough size and an NBA-ready body at 22. He doesn't look like he'll get swallowed up by teams even though he's 6'3". Maybe he's the Toyota Corolla of Maxey's: not so much speed but gets the job done.
Philon has been my binky for this draft, and I see the upside, but Small already has a decent J and more experience. Depends on what happens with injuries, trades, and so on, but Javon may be able to contribute next season, even if on a 2-Way to start the season.
Despite the current upheaval, Lendeborg and Small are complimentary additions to the recent picks of Scheierman and Walsh.
