It’s also a terrible way to defend him. The best way to guard Jayson it’s with an athletic and long wing and switching everything. It’s harder to do that with KP on the team

The Warriors had some success sagging off 10 feet and hoping his wrist is hurt so he can't shoot threes.

However, the CBS crew wasn’t going to let him go without getting in a basketball question. The co-hosts asked Tatum about recent comments from Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, who argued that the Celtics are “not mentally tough enough” to win a championship right now.

They asked Tatum: Does Barkley have a point? In response, the Celtics star took the high road.

“I mean you have to give the respect, right?” Tatum said. “Those are the guys that paved the way for the younger players like myself.”

Co-host Gayle King, who hosts a CNN show with Barkley, interjected to say, “I hear a ‘but’ coming.”

“You don’t always have to agree,” Tatum continued, with a laugh. “But you have to, in a sense, respect it because of the work that they put in. I understand that in the times that we’re in. You can’t win it – nobody can win a championship until you do it. So nobody’s going to give us the credit until we actually do it and that’s fine.”

A+ answer from JT in my opinion.

unacceptable by Tatum, here's how this interview has to go
;t=54s

Gayle King should be light work if Tatum really put on '15 pounds of muscle' this summer

That hasn’t worked on Tatum this year, regardless. Has too many arrows in his quiver at this point. Those long defenders just get wrecked in the post now.

It was early November, but Jaden McDaniels seemed really effective against Tatum in MINN (down the stretch; Tatum still scored 32). Was it a different story in BOS in January? (Tatum had 45)

Tatum is better than ever.
Last year he was slightly more efficient overall on higher volume BUT that was largely a factor of him excelling off ball and in team created opportunities. Valuable no doubt but we all know that there's gonna be plenty of times where Tatum just has to take the ball and make stuff happen.

The good news is; he's reaching new heights as an on ball creator in virtually every aspect.

Top isolation creators on at least 4 possessions a game including passes
Image

Top PnR Creators including passes on at least 500 total pick and rolls
Image

Top post up creators including passes on at least 100 Post ups

All these stats are from Synergy and include passes, making them much more informative than the ones we get from NBA.com.

As you can see Tatum top 13 in Iso possessions, pnr ballhandler possessions and Post ups. This is an incredibly varied and rare skillset to excel in all 3 of those. Something only replicated by Lebron, Harden and Luka as far as I know. Now of course, these are not full season stats so he might regress in some areas or the volume might not prove sufficient BUT these are all sizable increases over previous years and solidify in my mind that he has a special playoffs ahead of him. He's finally graduating to apex on ball killer and its going to be glorious.

He had a few week slump there not too long ago but other than that, dudes been nails all season as usual. If he got the same whistle as literally anyone else in the top 10 of the NBA then he’d be leading the MVP race

Another illustration of Tatum's evolution as a scorer: I compared last season's and this season's scoring efficiency for tatum and the difference is pretty striking.

This year he has a higher efg% despite having reasonably worse shot quality. Last season only 63.4% of his shot attempts counted as self created via Seth's stats, this year its 75.2%. Despite that he has the same true shooting and higher efg%.

The uptick in self created efficiency is very noticable with a 53.2 efg% on self created shots vs 49% last season where his effiency was buoyed by higher volume and effectiveness on team created opportunities.

In short, more confirmation that he's doing way better as self creator/scorer. Its a combo of the post up game, some added midrange takes and better effiency on the pullup 3.

Yup. 2nd half of the season is all about just staying healthy and keeping guys in rhythm.

Then, us hitting our peak in time for the playoffs will correspond with Tillman and Springer getting fully ramp'd, up to speed..to the point where they both really start clicking with the rest of the team.

At that point, we'll be unstoppable..especially since the players and coaches will be able to smell the title..they'll know that thing they want so bad and have been working so hard for is getting closer and will kick it into another gear to get it.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Yeah, Tatum is definitely at least 6'9".

Read on Twitter

He even said in a presser recently that he's 6'9". We can stop listing him as 6'8"..
