So basically, by trading for a guy with one year left on his contract and hoping he stays, the Celtics are insane.

Spoiler:
Actually, that is not the definition of insanity at all, yet it’s referenced in the media all the time as fact to make people sound smarter than they are. And, the original quote is not even attributed to Einstein. In fact, it’s unknown who first said it but people always credit him with it.

Really makes my blood boil. :nonono:

What does it all mean?
Kyrie is staying and we’re getting AD without sending Tatum of course!

You do realize the same argument could be made for once again passing on one of the best players in the game (Kawhi)?

Yes hence the spoiler and why I’m pro trading for AD

Celtics_Champs wrote:That’s another annoyance on these Danny Ainge haters. Kyrie might have already or soon tell Danny he’s not staying either way. Danny hears this, pulls back on his offer and lakers swoop in. People would be so pissed at DA because the facts aren’t in front of them.

If Ainge doesn’t trade for AD, it may not be because he was being greedy hoarding prospects. It may be because Kyrie has two feet out the door and Ainge realizes AD won’t single handedly bring you a championship

It wouldn't be single-handed though.

Horford is still an all-star caliber piece. Hayward is a decent bet to rebound physically enough to be a quality player. And Brown and Rozier have shown themselves capable of starting for playoff teams in the right role.

It's not so different than what the Raptors and Bucks had to work with for their top 5 guys. There's a no superteam window next year with the Warriors decimated.

Ouch. That hurt quite a bit.

He's right. Not landing Kawhi was likely the biggest blunder of Ainge's tenure with the Celtics. Sadly, I think it was clearly a mistake at the time. Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart for one of the best in the game? That's a no-brainer.

It's part of what's probably going to cost him his job down the line. Missing Giannis, Kyrie leaving, missing out on Durant and the big one, Kwahi. It is just too much to ignore.

C’mon people.... not one of you here complaining that DA didn’t take Giannis or trade for Kawhi were actually advocating for him to do so at the time. Lets stop with the MMQBing of this stuff. Giannis was super raw when he came out and no one knew wtf was going on with Kawhi. The Raps took a huge chance because they weren’t going anywhere with DD and figured they’d take a chance. It paid off big, but it also could’ve ended with Lowry being their best player and barely making the playoffs.

It wasn't really a huge chance then. Derozan was and is one of the bigger fraud all stars in the league and Poeltl is a middling prospect. They also got a championship level rotation piece. It was a perfect storm situation for them and Ujiri nailed it. If Kawhi was really a shell of himself and left, they weren't much worse off than they were if they kept the status quo. Not many other teams in the Kawhi sweepstakes had those circumstances.

Brown
Smart
Yabusele
Pick #14
Memphis pick

That's the pack I'm offering without an extension from Davis. Pels should take it.

Not sure where he heard it, but someone on Tigerdroppings just said:

Mannix just said that Celtics won’t put up Tatum without getting an idea from Kyrie about returning and that Ainge is asking the Pels to slow the trade talks for that.

edit - He added:

He was talking on NBA radio. He said pretty much everything but Tatum is available without an indication from kyrie about returning, but no Tatum. He said Ainge wants time to try to find out if Kyrie will stay with an AD trade. (Though the Roc Nation hire probably isn’t a good sign).

I don’t think we can wait a whole lot longer, hopefully Ainge can find out by Monday.

This is exactly what Ainge should be doing. He’s a risk taker, sure... but he’s not an idiot.

The vast majority of the league missed on Giannis. I get the Kyrie thing to a point but it was still a good trade and seemingly just didn't work out. Cant really be blamed for the Durant thing. He got a meeting with Durant, something most teams didnt. But according to Durant himself it was always going to be the Warriors

Those at tigerdropping think it's over based off of mannix's comment. They're saying he is an idiot and to screw him to ask them to wait, they waited for months so he can make Tatum available and now he's pulling Tatum off the table.

Danny is about to miss out on yet another mvp-caliber player because he over values his assets. Good Lord be smart Danny

Tatum is a far better asset than DeRozan. The Spurs are already trying to give him away for free this offseason.

Feel free to go back and look at old threads...I was strongly advocating for Kawhi.
