As for Hayward - the guy is a family man, which is why we can't discount Miami. If his wife says "Hey, let's get a beach house by the ocean so the kids can play outside everyday!", that's all it might take for Hayward to commit to the Heat.

Great call, the PG1's are fire.

This is what I'm feeling.

I think there's a very good chance Utah keeps Hayward and then the deal for George is off. But I think the deal is done in principle between Indy and Boston, dependent on Hayward signing here.

LOL, He has to make it look good for his potential future constituents. But if this thing was about money exclusively he wasn't ever planning on leaving Utah.

Only financial incentive to stay is to get a fifth year, and he makes more money long run by taking 2-3 years and then signing another max deal.

The thing that really worries me in this situation is Brad Stevens being such a nice guy. He's going to present the Celtics in a nice light, but I can't picture him trashing the other suitors in order to give us an advantage. I can't picture him saying "Utah sucks. There's nothing to do there, and Miami isn't as good as us either.

I would like Brad to be more aggressive in his pitch, but I think his Mr. Nice Guy attitude will result in a "Do what you think is best for you, Gordon. I will support you in any decision you make!" pitch.

The question is, will Indy wait for Gordon's free agent tour to possibly carry over through the 4th?

Why wouldn't they? What the rush for them? PG will still be theirs on the 5th and the assets people are talking about aren't going anywhere.

But not at max dollars. They wouldn't give him the full 5 year max

136/5=27.2. Less than he's making here

You said "the 5th year is what scared them." Which isn't true at all. Just clarifying that the Hawks indeed offered the 5th year.

It was, They didn't offer that 5th year until the very end. By then it was to little to late.

So that means, we're able to give him an extension? It doesn't make sense to only trade for PG when we can't keep him past this year... I guess depends on the cost.

My bad then. I thought the 5th year was there from the beginning and they were haggling over the price.

That was actually pretty big because I don't think Al is getting another max contract. Must have been real tired of Hotlanta. Hayward def can.

We're on the short list of teams he'd consider an extension with. And he's good friends with Hayward so our front to offices idea is if we get Hayward it'll be no problem convincing George to stay. He just wants to win

Yeah no worries, I completely misreported the new Qualifying Offer rules yesterday You were at least partially right because Atlanta did lowball on a 5yr and then again at the last second when he signed with us offered 5yr full max. They did a masterful job of pissing off their FA at every turn. First they wouldn't offer 5, then they sign Dwight Howard, then they added a 5th year but not at full max, then when they were worried he was leaving, they offered him full 5yr Max.
