Nothing will come of it.

Separatists in Ukraine are fighting against Ukraine as they want to be back as a part of Russia

THe UN have been helping Ukrainians fight against the separatists through support in training, money and weapons so that the UN can set up bases in the Ukraine that bring them closer to Russia

Putin is pissed because he doesnt like the idea of the UN Using Ukraine to set up bases closer to his borders, so he supports the separatists.

Bost sides know that they are both wrong and right and as a result nothing much will come of it, unfortunately, outside of loss of Russian and Ukrainian lives.

UN Nations/ WEF will try to drive Russian stock down so that the wealthy in the UN can buy them up and have some control over the Russian economy, Putin will see it happening and will pull back his troops to prevent it.

Nothing more than a glorified shouting match.

Have you seen the news today? Putin has launched missiles and people are dying and there's an invasion taking place. That seems like more than nothing.

Seems to me Putin thinks this is 200 years ago and counties can operate like empires and just take over sovereign nations. For 20 years he's been saying Ukraine is part of Russia and not a real country. And lying to his people about how nasty Ukraine is and how they are the aggressors in order to drum up support. Now he's saying he's going to replace their leadership and install a new government in a country that's not his or Russia's. And killing people to do it.

That's a war. Not a shouting match.

That said, I shouldn't have even said this because yes we are ruining our nice fun TV music and movie thread lol.

I meant it will be more like Crimea in 2014 than world war 3.

Speaking of War.

Just finished the 2nd 6 episodes of Vox Machina on PRime. As a D&D guy who has watched a lot of Critical Role, I LOVE this show.
My Wife on the other hand, who has ZERO interest in D&D, also LOVED the show.

Here's another pessimistic take..

Read on Twitter

They don't let us have a politics thread here but I could see a non-stickied Ukraine thread surviving..

Anyway I have no idea what to expect and the "expert" takes are all over the place and probably mixed up with a desire to shape the narrative.. I also have no idea who the credible, reliable experts are..

The Current Affairs board has a thread for Russia/Ukraine. Lots of good discussion there.

From Newsweek:

Three U.S. officials have told Newsweek they expect Ukraine's capital Kyiv to fall to incoming Russian forces within days, and the country's resistance to be effectively neutralized soon thereafter.

The officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Moscow's focus, as revealed in Russian President Vladimir Putin's references to a "special military operation" to "demilitarize" the neighboring country, would be to encircle Ukrainian forces and force them to surrender or be destroyed. They expect Kyiv to be taken within 96 hours, and then the leadership of Ukraine to follow in about a week's time.

Not to be an ass but would you mind not discussing this Russia/Ukraine stuff here? We've already seen a popular/useful thread (coronavirus) derailed by political discussion, then locked.

Spoiler:
BIDEN IS SOFT AS HELL!! Like my elders always say, "hit em where it hurts, that pocket/wallet!" nah, he'd rather hurt the people who have no control (including us and other countries) instead of putting personal sanctions on that psycho! Right, Russian people have the power to stop that maniac. If we just hurt them enough Putin will cower. He doesn't give a damn about his people, he cares about himself! The Ukrainian people don't want to hear that BS because I sure don't! Also, tell the truth, we can't impose the sanctions because NATO is here for the BS, scared as hell and corrupt! Talked all that ish, now Putin pulled your card and you do nothing as the world suffers, especially the Ukrainian people (on top of what the world has already had to endure)! Putin pulled that card and it came up KITTEN (another word)! B Made! I thought we were supposed to be big ****, number 1 at least that's what all the banners and ads say. We're number 1 in bragging about imagined ish! We ain't shat and Putin told you so! :banghead:

oops didn't see that other thread, I was pissed, sorry!

I'll take the fall for this one my bad wasn't my intention.. Just brought it up because it seems like this world has so much unnecessary suffering. Whatever I will move on.

No worries. I think the intent of the title (including 'media') was to refer to anything related to entertainment, not current events (and definitely nothing political).

I watched the first 3 episodes of "From." It's an Epix series and also streaming on Amazon.

It's probably not for everyone but I'm really getting into it. It's somewhere in between psychological drama/thriller and straight horror. About a town where once you enter it you can't leave. All roads just lead you back. And then there are humanoid monsters that come out of the forest after dark and violently dismember people haha.

Recommended for people who like this kind of stuff.

Dating back to December, I've now read four straight novels whose story revolves around a plague that wipes out humanity:

The End of Men (Christina Sweeney-Baird)
Station Eleven (Emily St. John Mandel)
Oryx and Crake (Margaret Atwood)
The Year of the Flood (Margaret Atwood)

I'm currently re-reading A Canticle for Leibowitz (Walter Miller), another post-apocalyptic novel about civilization trying to recover from a nuclear holocaust. It's probably not a good idea to feed my anxiety with these dystopic stories, especially with the current pandemic and breakout of war in Ukraine, but there's just something soooo enticing about stories about the collapse of civilization and the desperate lengths that humanity will take in these situations. If any of you are sick in the head like me and are looking for some good novels to read, I'd suggest these books.

Free Guy is on both HBO and Disney+ now. Very fun movie.

And the final season of Killing Eve starts this Sunday. One of my faves.

"Licorice Pizza' is another Paul Thomas Anderson gem. The guy is up there with the best to have ever done it.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is stellar. If you played in the past and took a break, now is a great time to come back. Destiny has had moments of greatness strewn throughout its history but this expansion finally puts it all together. If the raid is decent or better this might be the best Destiny content we've ever gotten.
