What a worthless thing to hold onto.
Tank or no tank we were better off with a pick in the top 10 than not.
That run did nothing for anyone but wycs pockets

Give this stuff a rest, guys.. I don't care who works in what field or who has what degree or who hung out with what celebrity on what boat, we're all just talking basketball, and sometimes we're right, sometimes we're wrong.. Some of us more often than others.. I appreciate the posters like BfB who have technical insight I don't.. But just let your opinions and track records speak for themselves.
Major lesson tonight about the NBA in 2015. Some will learn it. Some won't.
Again, Celtics HQ did not get what they wanted tonight. Not even close.
Spin as you feel you must to protect your worldview.
If anyone's worldview is connected to what happens to the Celtics in the NBA they've got bigger problems than who agrees with them on the Internet. The lesson is they wanted to make a trade and couldn't. Top ten picks very very rarely get traded. We've got a sh*t mix of assets, basically the 2007 group if they didn't have Al Jefferson. None of this is news. Whether we can upgrade the team or not is undecided. The margins by which these things happen or don't can be very, very thin. Garnett almost went to the Suns, Pierce was nearly traded to the Blazers, Rondo was gone to the Kings if he'd been open to re-signing. We may have been very very close to a deal, it's possible something gets announced tomorrow. You guys want to act like you know the "real" NBA and the "real" state of the Celtics, it's bull. Unexpected stuff happens.
And none of us have any clue what's going to happen in free agency.

Looks like a couple late trades went down.. Mason Plumlee and Pat Connaughton to the Blazers for Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Steve Blake. And Andrew Harrison to the Grizzlies for Jon Leuer. Nice nice trade for the Blazers picking up Plumlee..

Young and Hunter are more long term projects.
What makes Hunter a long term project, dude has been the man for a team he lead in the NCAA tourney. The focal point the of team's defenses night in and night our for two years. Hunter isn't going to grow anymore. He's more ready than Booker, and was probably a better pick than him. Hunter needs to learn how to defend but he has the length and obviously a coach's son so he can learn. At this point in his career he is more ready to contribute than Young was when he was drafted. Hunter by far was the Celtics best pick tonight.
He's a beanpole. I like the talent and skill set, but I don't think they need to clear the decks to make time for him to play. He's the 28th pick for a reason.
Rozier is underrated here, not really surprised. Defense always gets underrated and people are always infatuated with size.

He's going to get left in the dust soon enough. That's what happens when you adhere to outdated modes of thinking and you can't understand what is happening with Stevens and the Celtics becaude you're hung up on "stars".
The Celtics are still strongly positioned to add impact players in trades and free agency over the next two seasons. But be prepared to deal with a lot of ignorance from limited thinkers and mediocre basketball minds.
Stevens isn't building things the way certain people want and I expect the harassment and ignorance to continue until Ainge pushes some chips to the center of the table. At that point, they'll be exposed for the frauds that they are.
Let's be real for a minute. You have talked down to me, and I have degrees from three schools that wouldn't let you mop their floors. You've talked down to BfB, who is a professional in the field. You have talked down to truth18, even after he told you he has been published in the Paris Review.
We are all people who take **** smarter than your entire lineage.
You aren't an expert in the field because you watch synergy tape in your mother's basement, or because you play pickup with a guy who once played D1.
Never mind the scoreboard that you are getting owned on, I've passed on stuff here that came from Jerry West.
Why do I need to listen to you about anything, given your track record and attitude?
You got your stool pushed in tonight even more than I could have ever expected, and you know it. I know you know it, and you know that I know you know it.
Grow up and deal with that, kid.
Sure. But again. There was that Toronto game in February where the Celtics, like, totally owned man.
Nah, son, but keep the gay sexual innuendo references coming... Real classy champ!
I'm sure those degrees will provide shelter for your family as you cry a thousand tears that the Celtics aren't the Philadelphia Sixers.
I hear they are looking for fans. Take the rest of the whiny tankers with you as well!

Re: Official Live Celtics Draft Night Thread
I wasn't overly excited with this draft like many here. After the Lakers drafted Russell, which I felt would happen, I wanted us to trade and get Okafor. Maybe that was Ainge's plan too, if the reports were acurate. I'm sure he tried and the Sixers either really wanted Okafor or their asking price was too high.
When it was our turn to pick 16, there wasn't one guy remaining for him that I really wanted. Portis didn't excite me. I've seen him play a few times and I walked away thinking he isn't bad. Dekker was still there but he didn't bring it every night. He stepped up in the Tourny but wasn't a wow factor. Same goes for RHJ.I was not expected Rozier at 16, but if Ainge and Brad really liked him, there must be something there.
At 28, I wanted Mickey, but I saw Hunter was still available. I felt we would have a chance at Mickey or Christmas at 33. So getting Hunter and Mickey were very solid picks that late.
At 45, the more I thought of it, the less I wanted Upshaw. The dude had chances and just isn't in control his life, drugs are. You want someone like that on your team, I don't. I hope him all the best. I also had seen enough Kentucky games to stay away from Dakari. The guy was a freshman and knew he would be a 2nd round pick. So why not work on your game and go back to school for one more year. He would have had more playing time to prove himself with 3 of their bigs getting selected in the 1st round. Why didn't he do that? Because is isn't that good. He got more of his shots blocked at college than Big Baby in the pros. So Thornton had more upside that those two 7 footers mentioned.
All in all, I liked this draft. Didn't love it but let's give it some time. Looking forward to SL. Rozier, Hunter, Mickey, and Thornton can all play and they will get a chance to display their talent.

I can tell you're probably at that stage of life where you've realized all your degrees can't save you and with each passing day you're being exposed for being the fraud that you know you are deep down inside.
All of your supposed higher learning and you never learned how to be patient and calm of mind and perceive things as they are, rather than how you wish them to be.
Your desperate attempts to cling to realism and some sense of superiority show a lack of true confidence, and frankly, you reek of a certain elitist vibe that is off putting to say the least.
Carry on captain clown baby.

Oddly, Ainge admits that we don't have room for all four draft picks and then says we might be buying another pick before the end of the night...?

Re: Official Live Celtics Draft Night Thread
Talks about Rozier as really athletic, really tough, team will love him, fans will love him, great upside as two-way player, will live in the paint.. great speed, athleticism, length, great defender.. Shooting numbers will continue to improve as well: great form, great mechanics. Was in for two workouts and they grew to like him. Ultimately he's a point.. played 2 at Louisville because they needed him to score. "Downhill pick and roll player".. They didn't go into this draft wanting to get any guards, but they just thought he was the best player available..
Didn't have a single bad thing to say about him, really weird.. They didn't even talk about Smart this positively..

I expect 50 wins next year and a few more the year after. That's my criteria for success, not how many wonder children we get via the Nets picks.
How do you not see anything special with Winslow? Almost everyone says he was the steal of the draft. He should be a very good defensive player, he offers toughness and intensity, was a major factor in his team winning a national championship, played for an all time great coach, he's only 19 and very strong which means not only can he play right away but he'll easily transform into a strong NBA body over the years, he's a good offensive player as well. What's not to like other than him needing to work on his shot more?
Who do you consider special from this draft?
I watched Duke 5-6 times. Hard to avoid watching since they are on national TV so much. Winslow was a good college player, a little undersized, but ok. But Luc Mbah a Moute and Nick Young were good college players too. So was Jae Crowder (player of the year in the Big East). And each one of those guys was someone's binky in a prior draft.
I didn't see anyone truly special in this draft. Hezonja was the closest.

Re: Official Live Celtics Draft Night Thread
Just such a weird draft, overall.. I feel like a lot of teams got value for their picks (Mudiay falling to 7), but I'm not in love with any of these players and don't feel like any of these teams are. It has a major 'bust' quotient for me..
The top 12 picks from the 2006 draft: Bargnani, Aldridge, Adam Morrison, Tyrus Thomas, Shelden Williams, Brandon Roy, Randy Foye, Rudy Gay, Patrick O'Bryant, Mouhamed Sene, J.J. Reddick, Hilton Armstrong.. Rondo at 21, Lowry at 24, Millsap at 47. Just an awful, awful draft.. But no one thought that on draft night.. Adam Morrison was a sure thing, Ty Thomas was a future star, O'Bryant was a great center prospect..
2000: Kenyon Martin, Stromile Swift, Darius Miles, Marcus Fizer, Mike Miller, Dermarr Johnson, Chris Mihm, Jamal Crawford, Joel Przybilla, Keyon Dooling, Jerome Moiso, Etan Thomas..
This draft will either be really good, given all the interest in trading up- or really historically bad. Like I read scouting reports and hear talk and think, ok Stanley Johnson could be a really really good player, so could Mudiay, so could Turner.. But I'm just not feeling it at all..

Re: Official Live Celtics Draft Night Thread
Ainge just seemed agitated all around in that presser, obviously disappointed he couldn't move up for Winslow, and probably peeved that Washington jumped in front to nab Oubre, who could've been an Ainge target.
With all that said, I actually like Rozier a lot. Very shifty with the ball, killer crossover, he's a very tough cover and should thrive in space and transition.
He's a guy who's great in the passing lanes and that's usually a great indicator of athletic ability. Lots of fast twitch in this kid. And he's tough as nails.

• Waive Pressey and Babb.
• Stash Thornton overseas.
• Send Hunter to Maine. He's the new James Young.
• Trade Bradley and/or Turner for bigs. (THERE HAS TO BE A TRADE COMING, RIGHT?)
• Major minutes for IT and Smart.
• Rozier is the new Pressey. Or backup PG if Smart's gonna take the place of Bradley.

The depth chart is cluttered right now, but Young is an SF. And Hunter is a guy who'll probably spend most of the season in Maine.
So really what you're talking about is having 4 guards and Turner. No question it's a glut, but saying the Celtics have 10 guards is overstating it.

Well, I didn't stick around for the forty-fifth pick but I can see it didn't matter. Marcus Thornton?
Ugh.
I've to believe that one or more of the current guards are definitely getting traded at some point this off-season, or a few of these players were drafted for another team to be included in a forthcoming trade.
Overall, these selections were either redundant based on the current roster or adequate additions based on team need. Mickey is the best pick if he turns out to be another solid role player like Leon Powe.
Terry Rozier - D
RJ Hunter - B-
Jordan Mickey - B

This last sentence is the most intriguing. They did not want to take guard but they took the best player available. I don't want to say that that's the bad tactic but I just thought that the whole theory why we made such choices was that we have some deals prepared. And it seams that maybe we don't... Scary...
