In the offseason? Just buy him out now. Celtics need a new 6th man of the year.

Perhaps Brad has his eyes on Otto Porter Jr. Hasn't been bought out yet by Utah. But there were rumors before the trade deadline that Boston was showing some interest in trading for OPJ with the Grant TPE. And I don't imagine Utah is interested in keeping hm for very long.

OPJ would be a guy who brings some championship experience. He's got some size, some shooting ability, Wouldn't need to play tons of mins (hell, his body/injury history won't allow him to play big mins) but he could possibly get in there for some spot mins in the playoffs, hit some shots, grab some boards, not mess anything up too bad..

I think that would give us some nice depth at the wing/forward spots. We'd have Hauser, Brissett and OPJ, each with a defined role:

Hauser: the primary wing off the bench. Gets most of the mins. But if his shot isn't falling (so he's not providing value on offense) and/or he's getting beat defensively due to lack of strength/quickness, we have 2 other options with Brissett and OPJ

Brissett: lack of shooting/scoring ability..and lacks playoff experience. But can come in, get some spot mins, bring some energy, hustle, rebounding and defense..maybe bring enough value on offense with his energy, offensive rebounding and cutting..has strength and athleticism, which Hauser lacks

OPJ: if we need another option..someone with playoff experience, NBA finals experience. Played a full season and was a key piece in winning a title just 2 yrs ago, with a squad that knows how to win, won 4 titles together so he probably learned a lot during that season about how to win and what it takes to win. Can shoot..and create his own shot a little bit, can possibly hold his own on D..has strength and playoff experience, which Hauser lacks..has shooting and playoff experience, which Brissett lacks

Having all that depth at the 3/4 spots means we can play Tatum more at the 3, JB more at the 2, which makes it easier to give Jrue and White some rest games here and there..plus, they're gonna want to give Springer some mins to get him up to speed..

Danny didn't help us out by trading us any of his good players at the deadline lol. Now is his chance to help us out, by buying out OPJ..and doing it in a way that allows us to have a wink wink agreement that he will sign with us upon doing so..

Which of those guys would actually get minutes, especially if -- as there should be -- there's a bias to our guys who are signed longer time?

Not that I care that much about them being happy, lol, but since we passed the deadline with PP as our 3rd string PG, I think it makes sense to keep him that way, unchallenged. I'm on board for someone like Cory Joseph or similar to just be there for emergency/mopup minutes the PG.

Or the super likely - nobody. Just let Springer do it in garbage time.

Brad seems to think Springer can play in the playoffs. I think he got him for more than just garbage time:

Clearly, Brad and Joe have a lot of confidence in our top 8 guys. And clearly, Brad feels like both Tillman (a big) and Springer (a combo-guard) can be playoff contributors as well. So that's 10 potential playoff contributors.

I think if Brad adds a 15th guy, it'd probably be a wing. There were lots of rumors before the trade deadline that he was looking for a wing..but he got a big and a guard instead..while trading away 2 wings (Banton, Stevens)

Whoever it is, probably won't play much..so I'm tempering my expectations..and not really expecting a guy like Delon Wright, but you never know..

We all saw that and I love the Springer pickup. If you want to read into that and think it meant Brad sees Springer playing PG in this year's playoffs, more power to you. I'm just not making that leap with you.

I mean, the team with best record in the league, trying to win first title since 2008 trades for a guy at the trade deadline, the next day the GM says he traded for him because he can play in the playoffs. I'm pretty sure he means the upcoming playoffs that are a few months from now and not some other season in the future.

IMO, the moves he made at the deadline were done to put the team in a better position to win the 2024 NBA title.

All good, though. We can agree to disagree, homie :)
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Yeah it does seem odd. was 26 yrs old last summer, coming off a solid season as a rotation player for a good kings team, shot a high % from 3, showed some good D, good athleticism, made an impact in the playoffs..and then just like that, he's out of the league, no one signs him as a FA..

I was specifically talking about PG position and had a throw away line about Springer doing it in garbage time, lol. You’re twisting it into something it’s not. I highly, highly doubt he plays PG for us in any meaningful context in the playoffs this year. If he does, I’m wrong.

Of course the trades, tho more Tillman, are for this year. Springer could be thrown at someone on D for spot minutes, but he’s not running the offense. Unless, of course, it’s garbage time. :D

Maybe Brad didn't think Delon is right for this team.
