Kawhi... nope. Ship sailed. AD has yet to hit the market so too early to tell. Just have to let it all play out.

AD is supermax eligible next year, a year prior to the end of his current deal.

It’s not happening.

What’s “not happening”?

AD.

The whole leverage point was his contract expiring in two years. They may have felt compelled to trade him if next summer if they thought he was leaving in 2020. Unless he is willing to walk from a supermax that they would love to give him and which he is now eligible for, Pels have control of him for the next seven years.

He may spring loose, but it is highly unlikely.

I’ve been saying it for awhile now.. If the Pels suck this year, they will look to move him before he can opt out. Not saying he’ll be a Celtic at all.. Just saying he’ll be available. He’s been talking about his frustration trying to win for awhile now.

AD being traded. He'll sign the supermax and stay. He's another guy like KG. Won't leave until the next contract in his 30's.

Not if the Pelicans suck this season. No chance.

I don’t see him being so frustrated next summer that he turns down a supermax.

Time will tell. Too much smoke last season to not be some fire there. He’ll be moved if the Pels don’t make some decent playoffs noise. He talked about the KG situation.

A lot of star players have left money on the table over the last few years. Granted not the supermax except what looks like Kawhi but still. Guys have been jumping ship for a better chance to win or forcing themselves out of their situation in a trade

Can't wait for Knicks fans to talk about how they'll trade Ntilikina and Noah for Davis then sign Kyrie, KD, and Butler in one offseason.

Kyrie-Butler-KD-Porzingis-AD w/ Burke-Lee-Hardaway-Knox-Robinson as bench.

I dont know why but I hope he realizes he's the centerpiece and brings talent to him rather than vice versa. Unless it's the Celts of course but I don't see it.

I feel bad for Knicks fans. I gained a lot of respect for them the historically bad season when they all still showed up. WIth "Fire Isaiah" signs. Not the celebrity row douches, the guys and girls I rode the subway with to Penn Station.

Kawhi is currently walking away from the supermax. It's not unlikely enough to definitively say "not happening."

Kevin Knox is going to end up the best player from this draft class. He was completely under the radar. Looks like a mix of Tatum/Giannis to me. Knicks nailed the draft this year and in 2015.

Zinger's already good and has a lot of room to improve. Really IMO he just needs to get super aggresive to be very good.

My assumption (it could be wrong) is that you'd want to avoid the tax this year in order to delay starting the clock on the repeater tax. I don't have insight on your ownership's willingness to spend big, but any year you can avoid the tax & postpone repeater taxes is huge for most owners. What are your thoughts?

Pretty spot on analysis. I am not sure if he was referring to this year specifically, or just in general, knowing that Kyrie (to say nothing of the rookie contract guys) has to get paid.

Read on Twitter

Supposedly the question was how the 2019 tax bill affects this year's decisions. Aing is a bit cryptic with his response. With the Nets being one of the teams that met with him. Nets boards are very split into Hell no & Hell yes camps. Some of the latter think we'd need to make some extra room to make an offer you wouldn't match. I'm more of the camp that I'd offer what we have in cap space, about $10.5mil, escalate from there, and dare the Celtics to either make other moves to duck the tax this year or let him walk.

Smart, in my opinion is a great guy to have on a value contract, but not someone worth overpaying. 3/$34mil-4/$46mil would be a fair contract in my opinion.
He'd be a nice to have in Brooklyn, but not a necessity, so I'm hoping we don't overpay. I think it's more smoke than fire, as 2019 cap space is a priority for us, but you can't turn down value deals.

Celtics would match all of those, IMO.

Were 8-9M under the tax and one Yabusele dump away at that point— the deal doesnt feel painful enough for us to not match.

A mix of Tatum/Giannis is a guy with GOAT potential. Think of what Giannis would do with Tatum’s jumper...

Knox is good, but lets not overreact to summer league.

I like this, basically daring teams to sign Smart and/or Bird to offer sheets, we're going to match anything you throw at us.

Then he suddenly realized how arrogant his statement was so he mentioned a couple of teams to say East will be tough. But by then, we already knew what he was thinking -- we're a cut above the rest of the East and our eye is on beating the Warriors.
