Re: What is Jayson Tatum's ceiling?
I think that a top seed and a full seasons body of work is all thats needed for an MVP.
It's going to happen at some point.
I think what we are seeing post all star break isn't sustainable, I DO think it's a hot streak. That said, I think a season or two peak is going to look like that. Something like 29.8/8/5 on 48/39/88 is what we will see from his prime.
I think right now outside of this hot streak, he's a 28/8/4.4 kind of guy on 47/38/88.
That said, he's a top 10 player now. Bonafide superstar.
Some mix between Kobe and T Mac with better passing, imo.

The one with the below average TS is the lone loss? If I had to guess.
If even a third* of this game-to-game consistency existed back in Nov/Dec, he'd be toe-to-toe with Jokic as MVP candidate and we'd be sitting pretty atop the East. But again, that's all in the past now. Important thing is they've learned how to play the right way consistently and it's translating to easier baskets for himself and others. I'm the King of Confirmation Bias but tell me I'm wrong in this one -- the change of playstyle has helped Tatum unlock this new level of awesomeness.
EDIT: Really meant two-thirds. His early season was just riddled with so many games with inefficient shooting, poor starts, and/or awful end-of-game execution.

Bird will struggle to be a top 50 player in 2022 NBA. Players today are playing a completely different game than what Bird played in the 80s.

Lol, Bird would be the best player in the league right now. Top 3 at the minimum

There’s a real chance he’s going to finish 4th or 5th in MVP.
Tayshaun Prince, Rudy Gay, and Kyle Kuzma. Didn't think it was possible either but here we are.

Yeah true he doesn't really have the temerity and grit of a Kyle Kuzma, kind of an overly optimistic comparison imo.

I struggle plucking any guy out of the 80's and saying exactly where he would rank in the modern NBA, but Bird would be an incredible inside-out big man in today's NBA. Any team could use a tall, strong dude with elite rebounding, shooting, passing, and help defense. The idea that he would be just a pretty average starter strains credulity.

Not sure which comment is more unbelievable. The earth is flat or yours.
meanwhile Jordan-Magic-Kareem-Hakeem and so on.. the ones Bird dominated are all scrubs as well??
Meanwhile in Today' game Bird's numbers blow sky high with wide open/3 point spread out offense. Jokic and Doncic look like little brother compared to Bird. *who was more athletic than either.
Haven't figured out if this is an Epic troll job or you are completely delusional. whatever..

He’s been the best player in the league the past 2 months so why can’t his ceiling be the best player in the league for 1 or more seasons? He’s only getting better

Re: What is Jayson Tatum's ceiling?
the whole point of Larry Bird is that he would be a great basketball player in any era. Any. Until the last basket ever scored by a human is scored. Larry played to win and to embarrass people. Anyone who saw him knows he would get that done in 1950 or 2250, it doesn't matter.

I'm never in a rush for greats to retire, but when LeBron, Curry, Durant, and CP3 retire, what does the landscape look like?
I'm going to ignore Harden and Kyrie because I think they're phonies. Also going to ignore Trae Young because he is a freaky rat/human hybrid. I also don't know anything about this year's or subsequent year's draft prospects.
Giannis, Jokic, Embiid, Tatum, Luka, Ja(?), Towns(?)
Maybe Booker, Mitchell, LaMelo, Zion-if-he-weren't-fat-n-hurt, Cade(?), LaVine(?), DNP-AD?
I don't know. I feel like it'll probably be Payton Pritchard's league, but Tatum has a chance to be right up there with anyone in the 'new' NBA.

Skip forward to 42:30 to see what his buddy Bradley thinks of his ceiling, while Draymond is nodding along.

Thanks for sharing this. It's simultaneously thrilling and unnerving. Thrilling because there's a real possibility the face of the NBA is a Celtic. Unnerving because there's a lot of pressure to leave if/when things don't match the script.
